there is a way to stop the statue from being destroyed but it is tricky. there are items that heal the 'whole party' the statue counts as a good guy so you can recover it's HP over time but you have to go through and figure out which characters go on what turn and who should hold the items
Wow, you make this battle a hell of a lot harder than it should be. You CAN promote just about everyone in your party, and if you pile on Spiriel as soon as you can surround her you can widdle her down pretty quickly. Why send Danteres and Obright in the tombs at that point? Hit those tombs early and use thopse guys to crowd Spiriel.
I beat her by surrounding her with my strongest characters & having the healers stand behind them. Then It's just a case of pummelling her with spells & ranged attacks that she can't counter. I only lost one character.
If you nurture Obright's friendship bonuses & weapon skill properly this battle will be his finest hour.
If you want to make this fight much much easier, get Noon up to Spiriel. Keep putting her to sleep. Usually theres a bunch around her that get hit by it to. I didn't lose anyone and Spiriel was asleep the whole time. ;)
@TotalHalibut somehow i find the new psp SRPGs like the ones you mentioned a bit too, complicated. I'd wish for a simpler but more challenging game like the old Shining Force series
Spiriel is totally harmless if you are fast... after she destroy the statue, she will start walking back. Just make sure u trap her before she walks back to her original position and she will not attack. She can still counter though. But she will not attack AT ALL
I always get my characters promoted just before this battle, and consequently have no trouble cornering Spiriel between soldiers capable of resisting her attacks. Beside, she counters particulary easily swordmen so I don't senf Julian & Symbios at all, but she's weak against axes; so you should have sent Obright on her. And with Hayward and Noon alongside, making good use of his friendship's defense bonus, this makes a more fitting opposition.
@trusexyboi Yes there is, Trusexboi. He's just not showing those parts. It's partially free-roamer, just like Shining Force 1 where you can wander throughout the town in the chapter you're in. Unlike in SF2, where you can revisit wherever you've been, which you can't do in SF3 or SF1.
@RhamosVhailejh really dang i need to get the game.. this to me is THE best game ever made..... i tryed some old sf games and you cant walk around town so i thought they mess the game up..tnks 4r telling me tho..
it's such a shame. In the early days of 3d, it was such a "tech war" that people would rather hideous blobs as graphics than beautiful 2d art. SFII is a sight to behold. this era for 3d art is like vomit on a screen. what a shame. I LOVE shining force 2. MUCH better soundtrack too. In any case, you're very entertaining to watch. "the rest of the battle is just pain". very funny. heh.
True, a bit. Some developers are really good at keeping a unified visual style. The polished and chunky art of Team Fortress 2 or the super crisp lines of Mirror's Edge are fine examples of doing things right. Unfortunately half the games these days fall to the "baby poo covered in particle effects" school of graphic design.
Lower polygon counts and old school sensibilities kept things iconic, bright and well defined, if not a bit boxy.
Don't know if this works for everyone, but as soon as she got near me and the guards do that tempting aoe line thing, I ran away. Quickly. And she didn't follow me at all. The odd guard wandered over sometimes and that way I ended up with her on her own. After that I just piled everything in on her and had her down with no losses
Come on, Spiriel's voice isnt too bad. Its self-assured and bitchy tone. Also, Cybel's Cross attack is pretty "badass", I didnt used any halberds in game.
I'm amazed that you were able to succeed against Spiriel using melee attacks -- I remember dying so many times to her when I was young. I finally broke down one day and simply boxed her in with four tanks, and used ONLY ranged attacks/spells to bring her down. She's a much easier target when she can't counter. :)
But, this video is infinitely more engaging the way you did it. Well fought!
I also have to admit -- this LP has me playing my Saturn again. Now I just need a Premium Disc. ;)
Spiriel has a good excuse for the poor voice acting. As she's being controlled, her speech is meant to be rather emotionless. Shame you didn't show off her power undies~
To redchocobo: A good plot reason why Basanda would only have 20 hp is that shes right next to the Elbesem statue, which is drastically negating her Bulzome powers. This also points out why she needs Spiriel to destroy the statue for her, as shes unable to do it herself.
Just wondering: since Spiriel seems to move so much farther than her allies, couldn't you get the two separated by moving your forces way back towards where you started? then you could literally dogpile Spiriel with her allies 1-2 turns away.
dude, i did this battle without losing anyone for the first time, this is a really easy battle, i dont see why you are having problems with this, must be lack of strategic thinking...
Ahh yes, a lack of strategic thinking in a situation where the boss can and will ignore your tanks and wander over and 1-shot a healer. Definately a 'lack of strategic thinking' there, ya condescending son of a bitch :>
Man. For a guy who hasn't promoted his characters yet for a difficult battle such as this, your strategies are brilliant. I hope you continue with the rest of scenario 1. These videos are just great to watch. Keep it up, man.
@TotalHalibut I know this video is ancient, but you Bollocksed something wicked. Firstly, I know you were postponing promotions, but promoting characters gives the equivalent of 4-5 level ups. When ever you "map move" it takes a full turn for that character, and Obright is the slowest on the field, so having him open the ruins gives the thieves a head start (not that it really mattered, you got what you wanted). But you should have done the whole ruin before charging the Spiriel force. Continued
@TotalHalibut Also, if you just hang outside of the ruins, some of the Spiriel force charge at you while other hold back. You can easily take them out as they trickle to you, then when you charge her you don't have to worry about so many enemies. Then, after the ruins are completed and you have your whole army together AND her force has been slightly diminished, you can charge her. Next, you used the sleep spell and swift boots effectively, then messed up their effects. Continued again
@TotalHalibut The boots gave some characters enhanced defence, so those should be the ones to go near Spiriel, the others should stay out of range. The sleep spell worked, but then you attacked the enemies you put to sleep. Sleeping enemies are not a priority, they can wait. Use sleep and kill the people who aren't sleeping, eliminating enemy character actions. If possible use sleep on Spiriel with a defence-boosted Noon. Last mistake I can think of... continued again...
@TotalHalibut is that you used Heal 2 while standing directly next to Synbios, or Kite. The only difference between Heal 1 and Heal 2 is the range. They have the exact same healing power, which you can check on the status screen of the healer under the "magic" tab. A bit trivial, but all these things combined added up to quite a few lost characters. The strategy you needed to use requires a lot of patience, and it seems like you don't really care for that, which is fine. Continued again....
@TotalHalibut Play the game the way you want, but don't think that this battle couldn't have turned out better. Keep the healers in the way back. Let the Spiriel force charge you slowly. Wait until all your characters are back from ruin-pillaging. Use the sleep spell and defence boosting spell efficiently. Power level or promote, or both. You actually used the Land Effects and friendship system pretty well sometimes, but you were very reckless.
Seriously though, thanks for the warning about Spiriel, i do plan on getting this game at some point seeing as i still have my old Saturn. Great video, great series.
This is good stuff. I have been inspired to dust off the Saturn and play this game again. I never finished the first time :(
I just went through the game up to this point today. I am no pro by any means and I have actually learned a lot from you man, but I will say Spiriel was not that bad. I just saved all of Noon's MP and cast sleep on Spiriel and her knights. It worked 2 out of 3 times. With 8 people attacking her (can't counter melee when sleeping), she only got 1 shot on a lvl 11 Synbios:)
the guy who played here just had wrong tactic. he was way too careful in his approach. you need to be very aggressive and keep attacking her or else she will rip you apart. I have fought her last night and only lost 1 character with it.
Good battle. If you don't promote the characters after Quonus Mansion, it's indeed very difficult. Are you going to make the same walkthrough for scenarios 2, 3 and Premium Disk ?
Okay, this might be a bit too obvious or strange, but why didn't you just cage her in with four mid/high def characters at the first opportunity? At the very least, she'd only get one attack and couldn't move, then you could just pelt her with Hayward and the casters, and go for specials. You could've used Albright, Kahn, Kite, and Cybel for it.
The monks don't have high defense, Khan just happens to have high HP.
Of the characters we had available, there weren't 4 who could have withstood her attacks, especially not Tornado. Even Cybel at full HP, with her high defense, would have still died to it. I honestly wasn't expecting her to be such a jerk this time around, this was an extreme example of her throwing the usual strategies out the window, she's normally not this bad when it comes to ganking weaker characters.

Any recommendations on where someone might be able to purchase the full shining force 3, with all 3 scenarios? (because it is not on steam..)

Sega should remake Shining Force III for today's consoles instead of making EXA which is NOTHING like a Shining Force game.

I myself would've had characters with high defense entrap speriel and sit there defending constantly while long ranged attackers picked away at her.

Can she counter ranged attacks? The knife may have been a safer option, and Obright's throwing axe could have been put to good use.
