Cross-game cameos have happened throughout the years for Nintendo games, and especially on 1st party Gameboy games. There were even Gordos in Link's Awakening!
Yeah, I loved Wario land too. Initially I thought it was boring, but some of the later levels I remember being intense (for a 5 year old). I also remember when I found debug mode in wario land and basically 'spazzing out'.
when the "turtle"(real name is koopa) is tucked away in his shell, after you bounce on him, you hold down (B) and run into the shell, you will then be holding him, but you have to keep holdin (B), don't hold him for too long, because he'll eventually pop back out of his shell, and mario will get hurt!
I miss my gameboy x_x

I saw a Gordo. From Kirby. In a Mario game.
I thought Mario and Kirby had different creators, even when both by Nintendo?

Ah, it was either this or Wario Land for me personally.. Such fantastic platformers that are still such a blast to play through to this day.
