Point of information: there's no "usually" about the illegal killing of seals in Orkney. One rogue moron with a gun has been killing seals in South Ronaldsay and the police know who he is. In general we are nature-loving people in the north isles and living among wildlife is almost all of the point of living here.
fyi - the killing seals are deemed to be a nuisance and/or killing the stock around the salmon ponds, that's the loophole that is used when seals are shot. And there's more that one 'moron with a gun' doing this. At the moment it's 'fun' to shoot at any birds from the roadside, whether they're game birds or not. As I said, great for tourism
that's sarcasm, by the way - I'm sick of seeing the dead seal bodies. There also seems to be one too many of 'chinesesloppyplop' - he should leave the islands

By the actions of this family seal pups would possibly be abandoned by their mother and not able to survive on their own.

usually the fishermen of South Ronaldsay shoot the seals - especially the pregnant ones - and leave the bodies to wash up on shore. Great for tourism
