and in my guess it could have been 1 of 3 kind of fish...carp, cat, or striper. largmouth would fight relatively the same but they surface more often. my guess would be a stripe bass. same cato. different backgrounds. good luck
@Solids2010 uh theres no stripers in clear lake for one and a striper wouldnt have done a pull like that his rod tip would have been flying all over thee place because theyu run around a lot more
dont you just love the haters who know nothing about fishing but what they see or hear on tv lmao. ive fished in many tours. my fathers a pro angler. and anyone who says you can not catch a double digit hog on single profest line speaking of 6lb or even 8lb is an amature. take it from me i caught a 12lb'er on 6lb test. anyway good fight, horrible loss man. keep it up.
This was a live shinner dragged about 20-24 feet deep on a 25 foot drop off. the fishing line was trilene 6 lb mono. the water was really clear and the fish was never seen
It's impossible to believe that it was 6lb mono line, that line is wicked tough for 6lb test, it looked more like 14lb+ But why would you fish with suck weak line, why not go for a 20lb+ line, from what i have seen, there are a lot of weird fishermen out there who have a sick tendency to fish with weak line in hopes of catching something 10X what their line is advertised for. Can you clue me in on this tendency of some fishermen to downplay their emmaculate gear over weak line?
well he said the water was clear and 20lb would make the line more visible and in clear water conditions means less fish.there are some salmon fisherman who catch 20+ lbs salmon on 8lb line using float rods.generally i would say conditions dictate the line diameter people use but some people do it for fun. bob crubi landed a 20 lb bass on 2 lb line which is a line class record i think, pretty amazing stuff.
only a hater would acuse me of lying. clear lake in winter is about 10-15 foot visability. my friend uses nothing less than 10 lb. test now .i've caught many doulbe digit fish with 8 lb. and is great for line shy fish.also minnow fishing is a whole new ballgame than usine artificials
HEY CHEVELLEMAN 88, i've seen many big bass figh down low and shoulder back and forth untill coming up under the boat in the late winter early spring. Every bass in UNIQUE

i also do the same..
i use 8lbs line to go fish for catfish and stripers all the time..
them fish weighs in double digits and 8 lbs did the job.
i fish largemouth in the delta with 6 lbs lines also and caught 5-9 lbs fish with it.
smaller line will less likely not allow fish to see the line and also i use smaller line for the challenge..

Most bass of all sizes instinctively come up at some point and attempt to throw the bait. Bass love to jump and thrash.
