  • What an amazing song this is. Deceptively simple... but the vocals are brilliant! Harry Nilsson could sing a song like nobody else. A truly talented man.

  • Thank you for posting this man's wonderful tender music.

Luister eens naar Carole King, Celine Dion, etc. in you've got a friend. Perfect.

  • @veteran2000 I agree. The original is way better

  • When talking about Nilsson and how he blew out his voice in '74, it's true and it's very sad but you have to remember he fell in love and had 5 children later in his life! Although young, he died a very happy man!!!

  • oh yeah..when there was actual music..

  • i love this version hav'nt heared it in years ,awesome,,alot of love and poweful meaning

  • daron10000 this is the original, just so you know.

  • @num1913 Badfinger is the original. Wikipedia?

  • @num1913 Yes I know, I bought this when it first came out, It was the first record I ever bought. what ever gave you the idea that I didn't already know that, but thanks, I suppose.

  • Harry is the best

  • One of the best songs ever!

  • Best song ever in my life,,,,,,,,,,,,, memories forever

  • Linda canção.

  • Nailed it .

  • the best interpretation of the song but the saddest part, Harry was gone forever just like the song after a massive heart attack at 59 years old, RIP and we miss you and your voice

  • The best version ever!

  • Who said "Harry wrote nothing"??? I suggest you read a reliable biography - Harry Nilsson wrote a great number of songs for other singers, among them Glen Campbell, the Shangri-Las, the Yardbirds.

  • @MabelAmber And for the Ronettes, Monkeys, Blood, sweat and tears. His voice gave up, he recovered, though and was perhaps better than ever but died of a heartattack. He was a great singer, a great songwriter. Here I prefer Badfinger, Leona Lewis. Mariah overdid it, I think. (Nilsson as well). Still, one of the best.

  • @jacobbruinsma . Well.I agree in principal. Great singer, great songwriter. Big Fan. Only here was a good song by badfinger, Nilsson perhaps did not spoil it. But he gave Mariah Carey a good idea what she could do with it, with her 4 octaves and the flute-octave. (Be generous, let us say, 5 octaves). Great singer, no restaint. Bu for me, she ruined some songs by overdoing it Nilsson was best when he kept it simple. But you don't have to agree. It's a matter of taste.

  • Talk about singing your guts out!

  • @LuluRosenkrantz Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger wrote the song. It's on their 1970 album "No Dice." It's sad that they never received enough credit or enough compensation for their work. They both commited suicide later in life.

  • I always beleived Nilsson wrote this song . Who was the original lyricist ?

  • @LuluRosenkrantz Harry wrote a lot!. But this is a Badfinger song. (Look it up in f.i.. Wikipedia. I think that was the simplest and best version. This one is good. Ik think Nilsson's version of "somewhere under the rainbow - it's on "You,ve got mail" is superb. He started writing music as .Johnny Niles, Foto-Fi Four en Bo Pete.. Wrote for famous bands , was the favorite singer of McCartney and Lennon. His voice gave out, after he recovered, he died of a heartattack.

  • Harry is singing a cover version of Bad Finger's song. Harry wrote nothing!!!!

  • @KRW1612 Sorry, he wrote a lot. But not this. Funny, his songs were great for others and he's mostly famous for covers. Fantastic singer/songwriter with a sad enough life.

  • @KRW1612 If by 'nothing' you mean 'boatloads of great songs,' you are correct.

  • my favorite song of all time, any decade, now and always

  • 40 years have gone by since my heart, my mind, my spirit were first drowned out by this song. Nothing has changed, sun still rises in the east and sets in the west, and this continues to be the slam-dunk-mightiest of ballads.

  • the best of the baby boomers and we live with it, it broke my heart to meet his oldest song who is his copy

RIP and your music in lingering in our memory

from Saint Raphael, French Riviera with Love

  • No way, someone other than me listens to me. Every year or so?? Boomers, eh?

  • essa musica e´de mais adoro ela

  • He recorded this after going out drinking and smoking.

  • Seems to me that ALL the versions of this song, sung by Nilsson, on YouTube are the original recording.

  • rip pete/ harry

  • I have fallen in love with this song i cant stop replaying it. Its just got so much passion.

  • This is the anthem song for stalkers who can't get over their ex's...nice song

  • @suckon1 Well I suppose that's one way you could interpret the lyrics...IF YOU WERE A FUCKING IDIOT!!! Talk about something going over someone's (YOUR'S) head!

  • Composicion de Badfinger 66

  • what a great song, by a troubled musical genius

  • Great song but the theme is pure evil.

  • Yep, Harry took it to the level Pete Ham probably intended.

  • I was a teenager.............use to rip my heart out. Still love this song-so much passion and music is just as touching.

  • One of the best songs Badfinger ever wrote redone magnificently by a musical genius, Harry.

  • wonderful version by nilsson, wonderful original version of badfinger. thanks boys..

  • can anyone tell me where this song appear?

i remember it from a film or something like that...

  • @The9avenger Were you thinking of The Rules of Attraction?

  • @The9avenger Porridge (film version, 1979), Zärtliche Chaoten II (1988) , Bridget Jones' Diary (2001), 44 Inch Chest (2009).

  • @veteran2000 It could be,lot of thanks for both! :)

  • more touching than Mariah Carey's version.

  • just love it

  • Most of the time the original is always the best but in this case its different =p

  • @adolfofooo how is that?

  • Definitely the best version...really the only one worth listening to.

  • This is so much better than the Badfinger version (the original)

There's really no comparison. Nilsson put the passion into the song that was totally lacking with the original artist....in my opinion. Switch over to Badfinger version and compare...

  • @missmonasuzette "This is so much better than the Badfinger version (the original)"

There are no better versions or worse for that matter, just different. Each performer has a certain appeal for certain listeners.

Without you has been covered by a huge number of performers and these performers, along with the listeners that support them, have but two men to thank, Pete Ham and Tommy Evans of Badfinger, may God rest their eternal souls.

  • Amazing singer.

  • Actually,,This song was originally written and performed by Badfinger,,,so if anything he would be the 5th finger,,would that make him a thumb?,,lol

  • The best version, forever and ever...

  • what a great ,super voice he had...love him and this song ..miss my wife Beth who died march this year ,this song stabs me in the heart with great love for her,i love you Beth...

  • how many other versions of this song were there?

  • So very hard to listen to .

As beautful as It is..it fosters an air of unrepairable depression .

Only Jesus could/can repair it .

  • @scitsalcoryp AMEN to that...Suffering comes to us so we can seek more of Jesus and our heavenly Father through the Holy Spirit **BIG HUGG** from NYC~~♥

  • @juskee2 Love Ya

  • This was the very first record I ever bought, Brilliant. And the best version, nobody will ever do this any better.
