  • THATTTS A COSSSSSBBBBEEEYYYYYYY SWEEEAAAATAHHHHHHHH!!!

  • Mooooooose Sweateeeeeeer......

  • I want 90's BACK! :(

  • Comment removed

  • what a christmas sweater he's wearing!!

  • This is definitely going on my favorites! Some interesting things to note are a) that Billy seems to be playing the piece in a different key than indicated in the score (I think he's playing it half step up for more white keys), and that billy's fingering suggests he's self-taught (note that he seems to have a beginner's piano book on the piano). I love how meek Billy appears in this, and how he is not embarrassed by mistakes. Thanks for the amazing upload <3

  • lol the ending is the best at 4:35

  • What is that first he was playing? Sounds like he was playing (or at least trying to) an alternate intro? It sounded real nice but it's not part of the actual Mellon Collie track.

  • Eight people don't like his sweater.

  • Love how he is still working out the composition... fu@kin amazing... to see him in the process.

  • whenever I want to hear mcis,i dont even go for original version anymore,i want to hear/watch Billy play it himself,so I always come back here. Therefore,I have at least fifty views for this video.it is such rarity, and I enjoy watching it every time...

  • Mellon (LOTR)... Dwarfish for friend if i remember correctly ;)

  • wait a human made this?? oh its billy

  • This is a very different version... I like it.

  • Billy had hair?

  • So beautiful...

  • @SuperSparkyMark1 ditto. it is quite lovely

  • Billy is the best.

  • Na... they were pretty famous in this period. This must be situated around 1995. He has the look and sounding of the mcis recording era. It would be their 4th full EP, and they were well established and pretty " famous " by now.

The shaved head and Zero shirts came on a few months after this, as mcis tour began.

This should get more lost than situated, hopefully.

  • haha lovely end

  • Billy is so wonderful ahhh

  • I really love you billy.

  • lovely sweater

  • @cloudynot2cold ahahahahahahah

  • This song contradicts itself.

  • Hah. His finger positioning is so terrible. You can tell he's not a pianist, but that makes it all the more charming. You dont have to be a proffesional to use an instrument and write a good song.

  • What's so beautiful about this song and it's place on the record is that it sounds like it should be the LAST song but Billy made it the first one.

It sounds like a swan song to the innocence of the human spirit....the death of a beautiful dream.

And it STARTS the record. Genius.

  • that was awesome...

  • i was like "that doesnt sound like the final version very much.." and OH there it is

  • sweet.

  • him and those sweaters....lol.

  • He is so cute!

    This guy rocks

    Darcy and Iha shoud return...

  • He has quite an epic piano :p

  • the art that i'm most familiar with... the part i like... starts around 2:10

  • coooooooool. billy before he disappeared into his own asshole. i miss the pumpkins

  • @olivia2595 you should go find him.. Bitch! XD

  • Moose sweater.

  • lol he's playing it in a different key

can't tell what, but it looks easier

  • The camera guy is annoying!!!

  • @poshi12 What does is say?

  • Piano teacher would kill me, if I played with Corgan's finger positions. But fuck the rules, Corgan rocks!

  • I LIKES OLD o.o ....

  • Sr Corgan. You are great..

  • What a butthole, I love it! The camera guy trying to fit the candle in the shot was pissing me off. I remember this video in 95 when MTV used it in an interview about sp from Gish to MCIS. I think it was in anticipation of the release of MCIS album. Great vid. I would love to find a copy of the MTV special they did.

  • billy corgan..please get back together with the old pumpkins please..its just not the same anymore...i love you billy

  • i hope for another just-piano-piece on teargarden

  • love the intro bit!

  • This is the most I've seen of his old house.

  • 3:07, Billy is packing heat.

  • I love this song. I admire Billy Corgan's musicianship to such a great extent! It's so wonderful that he can just sit down and play this, and then pick up a guitar and do the same thing, and then pick up a banjo, etc. It's awesome.

It really inspires my playing, and makes me want to go and buy a piano!

  • i like his sweater! :P

  • billy is so amazing - he never needed james iha or d'arcy or anyone else. jimmy seemed like a good friend to him, but the band NEVER needed james to become great and stay great! hands down, billy is a creative genius.

  • james spent his whole career riding the coat tails of billy's determination to make the band successful. people who think the band sucks now have no idea that it was billy alone who made it amazing to begin with!

  • reply to x62082 .

i Could not agree with you more.

people accuse billy of craving his ego and being up his own backside.

but with all the effort he put into the smashing pumpkins he deserves to do what the hell he wants.

your about the only person who actually sees how much of a legend he is. everyone else is an asshole

  • I am in love with this man.

  • I love his Sweater

  • awful cameraman

  • Are you fucking kidding me? He moved the camera like...maybe three times at most. Get over it you fucking pansy.

  • horrible cameraman!

  • at first iwas like :/

    but then :)

  • fucking awesome!!! it's like a christmas story but instead of don't shoot your eye out billy's mom's like "we got you a piano, but don't start going all 'goth' on me now, like little trent down the street..."

  • hahaha!! Yeah!!

  • sorry to say this but with that dorky sweater and his hair parted like that he looks like a nerd.

  • incredible...

just look at him playing, just look at all he've done...

do you really think the sweater or the hair matter?

he can use a tutu if he wants.... only mortals like you and me care about such things as clothing...

  • Billy probably was a nerd. Nerds make great music. Music becomes your best friend when you don't have a lot of them.

  • LOL

  • lol thats bullshit!

so ure saying Sting was a nerd too?he makes great music

  • @Minacious See: Geek U.S.A.

  • @thetheRedundant one of my personal favorites

  • weird... I'm learning this right now, but he seems to play it differently... The keys he presses don't seem to match the keys on the sheet music I have. Yet it sounds exactly the same. well except for the very end, where Billy kind of elaborates just a bit.

  • That could be because the piano he's playing hasn't been tuned in awhile.

  • i think the piano is tuned but its too old

  • lol, he tuned the piano down half a step xDDDDDDD

  • yeah what's with that?? I'm learning this song, too, and the keys don't match at all.

  • @grantchestermeadows1 the recorded song is in C sharp, seems like he transposed this down to C.

  • ppl..this is obviously pretty old maybe even 94 era, so mellon collie the album is probably just a bunch of rough thoughts in billy's head, its actually great to hear the originality of the piece rather then the cut edited finished version on the album

  • he only plays with like three fingers on his right hand

  • What tha fuck is the guy with the camera doing? is he drunk?

    The song is great!

  • i love this peace of music at the begining of the album :)

  • this was great

  • hes not bad! wow

  • De poca madre, q chido q hayas conseguido esto!!!!

  • Yeah, the video is a little blurry, but you can still hear the amazing piano.

I love that sweater, it's almost as cute as the sock monkey hat!!

  • horrible camera, makes him look old...and even older

  • Beautiful final series of notes. The intro was different but I liked it alot it gave more emphasis on the main riff of the song.

  • Descendant of Corganism at Amazon

  • Billy doesn't use his pinkies

  • yes he does watch closely

  • oh yeah 0:43

  • love the sweater <3 :)

  • the songs a little sadder than album version

  • I really want that sweater! *.*

  • this is a great version of the song, but the camera work BLOWS big time! did this guy really have to move around that much while billy was doin his thing? he had a good angle around 3:50, he should've went with it, but instead he just got us all dizzy.

oh well.. love u billy... when are you gonna grow your hair out + start rockin again?

  • Skills this man has, skills :D

  • this sounds much different than the album version...

  • he added like an intro to it

  • Oh man, I LOVE this! I've always thought MCIS was such a beautiful album opening, and, as a piano player myself, I can tell from his method of playing that Billy definitely has not had any "formal" classical piano training, which makes him even more of a genius to have been able to just figure it all out by ear/by himself. Thanks for posting!

  • this is proof that billy corgan is lightyears ahead of any musician today.Long Live the Mighty SP!

  • Thom Yorke

  • Thom Yorke is probably my favorite artist, but his piano playing doesn't even compare to this song. His whole catalog doesn't compare to this one.

  • I'd beg to differ. I love both but the acoustic version of Like Spinning Plates is at the lowest a rivalry.

  • To this day this is one of the best album openers I've ever heard and I own a lot of music! Simply beautiful!

  • I just wanna sit with Billy for hours and talk..

    man amazing

  • yeah man, far out, and like stuff.. that's deep.

  • My god, he has a nice home!

  • He doesn't use his pinky!

  • what's the song he plays first? anybody/

  • Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

It could be an alternative beginning he came up with.

  • you think?

by the way, porcelina. really good song hah.

  • isnt it like the end of farewell and goodnight?

  • I think the end of that is Mellon Collie.

  • the middle of the intro is part of farewell and goodnight.

  • Does anybody know what year this is?

  • considering Billy's hair cut and the album release, it's probably from 1995

  • hahaha aaaww. he's like a little kid being forced to wear a nice sweater and play his song for his grandparents.

only he's billy corrigan and he's a grown man and that song is his job.

    huh.

  • I can play that song~ Yahoo~

  • man it took me so long to figure out the main riff, and i dont play piano...i just dont have the experience or the ear to play this properly, but i think i would have an orgasm if i could play this in it entirety

  • Billy is a genious, you got to have talent to make such beautiful songs without knowing how to read music, talent in your heart babe

  • horrible piano form/technique...

but when u can kill it on the guitar like him... who the f*ck cares

  • i think it's cool/weird

i tried playing with my pinky all curled up and i just couldn't do it

and yeah... the solo on quiet is just wow

  • Beautiful, love you billy and i want your sweater.

  • We love you, Billy. What a beautiful song.

  • I love Billy Corgan. LOVE.

  • he also seems unconfortable

  • for some reasob he reminds me of rob dyrdeck

  • "Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness" is a unique piece of music. The LP itself is one of the best double-albums of all time. Pink Floyd's "The Wall", Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti", Beatles' "White Album", Nine Inch Nails' "The Fragile" to name a few.

  • he looks like ethan hawke, this is a heartbreaking, beautiful piece

  • So pretty!

  • nice sweater hahaha

    just kiddin' billy, you rule

  • This is a great song, but man, what the hell is wrong with the camera man? is that katherine hepburn taping, or a 4 year old with ADD? I don't blame Billy for messing up. I would too. At one point he looks at the camera and I can just tell he is thinking, what the fuck are you doing?

  • Ehh, who cares, I'm here for the audio, not the camera work. This ain't some million dollar motion picture. Although I adore looking at Billy's beautiful sweater :)

  • i think u answered your own question about the camera man

  • hey..i made this comment like 5 months ago, not 2 days ago..never trust youtube's time frame management

  • makes me cry

  • How did this video surface? anyone know who filmed it or when it was filmed?

  • It was filmed for Rockumentary on MTV. They made a short Smashing Pumpkins documentary because of the release of Mellon Collie in 1995

  • yes you are houman but u are greate

  • Look at 3:40!! he make a mistake, he is human after all, i thought he was a god...

    (Sorry my englis)

  • hey even gods make mistakes...even billy!

  • Haha, I'm playing the violin part in my head to the music. God I love this song. And the intro was great. I wished they used it on the album!

  • brilliant, brilliant album, and the song itself is such a beautiful set piece

  • Billy's wearing one bitchin' sweater.

  • and he has hair =0

  • hold the fucking camera still.

  • MCIS actually starts at 2:04...

  • this is great way to prove to all the critics how creative he is and everyone here and your negative comment are lam you wish you could play half as good as billy dumb asses

  • Isn't this from some Rolling Stone shoot?

  • Mellon Collie could not be the best album ever (song by song) but to me has the best aura to an album ever.

  • exactly how id say it. magnificent aura in this song

  • well since you discovered this version on your computer, why don't you chuck your computer out the window, run downstairs and stomp on it so we don't have to hear from you again

  • you are a loser!!!!seriously are you stupid??!!!?!....you should chuck yourself out the window and get stomped.......IDIOT!!!!!!!

  • q pendejo sos cabron...!

  • Q DIVINO C V TAN JOVEN Y CACHETON XD

  • aww his sweater!!

  • Where did you find this?

  • "kinda shoot it dutch" what does that mean?

  • hes trying to use so-called "witty" professional photographer humor...no ones laughing

  • OH MY GOD.

    what a great sweater.

    i love him

  • nice christmas sweater.

  • nobody can play it as well as he cAN

  • Haha I like to play that theme penis.

    Billy Corgan rules though!!!!!! \m/

  • Haha it does sound like penis not to be immature or anything.

  • It's in G or A minor

  • Interesting. He's playing in a different key than the album version.

  • it is beautiful though

  • it's the easiest thing to play on the piano.. really..

I love MCIS as a whole album though

  • worst videographer.... ever.

  • it's too bad the audio sucks

  • Does anyone have this whole interview?

  • thanks for showing us the house... :)

  • if i didnt know, i wouldn't have though he taught himself...except for the hand positions...they're a bit odd but still he's awesome. god i hope he still has that sweater

  • He looks tired.

Actually, kinda funny way of playing a piano.:) I mean, his fingers are sometimes in an odd position. That's what my piano teacher first taught me, the right position of fingers, hands, the whole body. Well, I guess it's because Billy hasn't officially studied piano playing, learned it all by himself.

  • ma chi è quella testa di cazzo che ha fatto la ripresa??

  • how old was he then? so adorable! :)

  • Great shit
