This is what I consider true bellydance---a dance of the people, real people, a dance that expresses the Middle Eastern culture, their heritage, their way of life. Thank you for such a wonderful video, Tarik. :)
@gent491 the singer was not a lade looooooool :D it's a man but it's a kind of song that i don't like ^_^ but it have fans in egypt like the rap in the usa
i think she is right. There is a huge gender discrimination in middle east and this is not new. I dont think Tarik -as a person who knows- should mention different assertions. It's really quite important to state the facts here because there is a lot of suffering (and please, just because some women are able to dance it does not mean that the suffering is not there- last, your analogy with Greek women is extremely unfortunate because there was no real discrimination against women ever in Greece
Hi Sergio, Tarik here. God, you pull up something I said a whole year ago...okay. I don't know what Modern Greece is like for women but any history book will tell you that with the exception of Spartan women, life in Greece was VERY restrictive for women. good women were confined to the genecium on the second floor of the hose and needed to veil in public and even then, they needed an escort.
hey there you know what i want to see? egyptian guys doing like lebanese depke. i am egyptian/american in chicago and there are alot of felesteeni here and all i here from them is how the egyptian guys cant dance depke. lets prove them wrong! can you make one? pleeeeease! i wanna prove to them we are universal! thanks
What a strange thing to say to an Egyptian. No they don't do Debke and they also don't do Flamenco because THEY'RE EGYPTIANS. Debke ISN'T an Egyptian dance. There are some Lebanese and Palestinians who think that the whole Arabic speaking world is Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. Its just plain ignorant of them not to realize that Egypt and the rest of North Africa has their own UNIQUE cultures. Be proud of who you are and what makes YOU unique.
obviously you didnt understand what i ment. i know masry ppl dont do depke its suri, felesteeni and labnani thing. i just ment as a way to show we can do it. and i am very proud of being egyptian thank you very much. didnt have to take it personally
I'm not mad at you habibti. I'm just saying what you need to tell people when they say such ignorant things to you. And yes, there are many Egyptians who CAN, if they want to, do a Debke. Check out some of Karim Naggi's videos.
Man your dance is not femenin ,not to male neither, its just perfect,it has rythm and armony in acordance with the melody of the music.for me it was perfect.
I may be a little crazy, but I'm not stupid. Besides, why in the world would people be drinking coffee and smoking shisha in a mosque....... unless there's some new sect I don't know about! :-D
lol, new sect you dont know about? Ahhh I was going to ask the same thing. I didn't even realise the shisha and coffee. Yalla Nevermind, I understand now whats happening
This is a little ahwa behind Hussain mosque on the left side. You might not neccessarily see people dancing unless you hang out all night there. The folks there know me so they insisted that i get up. If you want to see people dancing go to the felucas on the corniche across from the Hilton. Get there around 9 or 10:00 and just hop from boat to boat
No I live in Jersey city, but I live in a baladi part of town in Egypt when I'm there, Ezbekeya and my buddies they know all the cool spots. These places are where the real local people hang out, not the stuck up folks, but that's where you have to go to experience this stuff. It's not with the upper class crowd that just likes techno or Egyptian top 40s.
Nice clip. I liked the costumes in the opening scene. That's the way dancers dressed in the old days. I'd love to see someone do the same thing using real Oriental dance instead of Ballet though. I think it would be really great. It would reflect the real spirit of the Egyptian people.
hey wuts wtih u 2 arguing lik tat y you not u 2 jus be nice to each oter verrrry good is tat u 6969aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa lol good dance lov it so tell me wuts up wit diz u an cristiaos chick
I know she is your friend, but unfortunately she was rather insulting to me for no reason. She made a nasty comment on one of my videos and so I called her out on it just to make an example of her. Understand, its not that she didn't like my dance. I don't expect everyone to like me but I do expect to be treated with respect because I give respect. It's no problem I'll be blocking and deleting her comments.
Thank you for sharing your dance. It was so fluid, natural and joyful. It is nice to see the dance in its regular social setting. That is something we in the US do not get to see much. I hope that one day I can visit Egypt myself, but for now, you have given me a little window into your world.
No because this is the way all Egyptians dance there. This is simply the native social dance of the country. Its not what you think and the reality of the country and the people is very different than the media driven fantasy of knuckle dragging terrorists. You need to go there and spend time with the local people to know who they are and what they are about.
I think after all those years of haning out in baladi areas, something finally rubbed off! ;-) If you want to see the real thinh, you have to go to places like Shubra, Husain, Muski, El Ezbekiya. They don't got a lot of money but they got plenty soul!
this was very natural and most of all this man danced the bellydance moves in a proud and more masculine way, his hands and arms were very nice. Lovely ! shame when i was Han El Khalil I only got to have coffee and shisha but sadly no dancing.... maybe next time
You have to go to the little coffe house behind Husain mosque on Friday night and be perpared to sit a long time. Eventually someone gets the spirit to dance, however, I can't guarantee I'll be there. If you want to see the young guys party, you have to go to the felucas across from the Hilton and just hop from boat to boat
Yep guilty as charged. Its me, but I was really holding back because I don't like to be the center of attention when I'm off stage and also, because its a situation like that, you don't want to go all out like a professional. However its a nice place to experience the less commercial side of things.
hahahaa! Nesma3 Salam le dowal el khaleeg! Where'd you tell these people you're from?? This is really natural and heartfelt dance. I love it, thank you for posting!

The dress has nothing to do with their ability to assert themselves. True its a more conservayive society than in the west, but that doesn't mean that every woman is being oppressed. In the local areas, a woman can often times assert herself. Just think of traditonal Greek women. Conservative dress, but they don't take any crap from anyone.

The scene seems so strange, these women in black convicted to have their body in prison to look at a man whose praises the freedom through his body, dancing like a liquid fire. Have you ever asked them how they feel exactly about the prison of their bodies?
You are gorgeous, also in your everyday moments.
