I completely agree! Backpacking foods should be simple. What's with all the gourmet foods and luxury items being brought into the wilderness these days?? It always amazes me when I go online and read about fancy camp food recipes or numerous bad reviews given by people to a certain campstove or backpacking stove because it doesn't adjust precise enough to sautee or simmer fancy foods and sauces. The whole point of getting away in the wilderness is to enjoy the outdoors and keep things simple!!!
i love ur vids ty vm. 55 YR OLD lady in nova scotia. im a stroke survivor and altho i don't travel as far nor as fast as i used to i still get out there a lot. my pot has the coating inside too.......folding rubber handles too. but diff being that my cover doubles as fry pan. frypan is small but big enough t i love my pot. just to share it with you. ps: i love your videos..i get lots good ideas from you .hank you very much........karen ps saw ur pot on another of ur vids.
Mini cat seems like too much effort, especially on the trail. I am really impressed, however, with tinnys stove. Every soda can stove I make seems to leak or not blossom correctly...
I love all of your videos, I watch yours, tinnys, and jason kraz's all the time!
This is great stuff Russel! I'm glad to have seen your video, learned a lot, thanks for sharing. I'm from Manila, Philippines and I hike extensively. I've been hiking since the eary 90s (where I'm from, when you say hike, it means up a mountain, literally). Right now I'm considering going ultralight, though it's not that popular here in the Philippines. I've already one bad knee due to hiking with heavy loads, and still want to enjoy the oudoors. You're a great help! Thanks!
Appalachian Trail: Ramen noodles and high mileage...until you get to the next town. Then consume nutrients in preparation for the next section. Repeat. Over and over and over again. Until you reach Maine. Yay!
I love music, And couldn't live (knowing what it is) without being able to experience some form of it... But, don't you just think its kinda nice to get away, and just enjoy nature? Kinda the reason for hiking and what not in the first place.
A quick tip if you plan on bringing soup on any hiking trip is to buy dehydrated soup packages (ex: cup of soup) empty the packs and put them in an empty bottle of water, saves a ton of space and reduces the trouble of having to carry all the garbage around.
I am also new to Camping/Hiking/Bushcraft and what not, but I think I have my food idea down pretty good.
I know what if there is a BJ's around you, you can get a lot of little packaged pasta, with the sauce powder and what not, all individually wrapped for single person meals, and they have lots of flavors, and are very high in carbs, so they will be good for hiking.
Also, theres 99c Raman Noodles cups. Just add boiling water!
Food dehydrator, one of the best things I have bought for backpacking. Dehydrated hamburger, vegies, spaggetti sauce, and the list goes on. I also buy the soup mixes and such already dehydrated as well. Good video, and Im glad to see you back.
Awesome vid, although I do worry about fire in a basement! Yipes! You may not remember me, but wanted to tell you that I got a Zondovan NIV thinline posthumously from a preacher that befriended me when I was agnostic. Isn't HE great!?!! Keep up the great work!!
I really enjoyed seeing the difference with the two stoves this was a really good video.

Why not just use a stove that allows you to put it out easily? That was one of the main reasons I chose my Pack-a-feather.

Great vids bro,
I am new to hiking and would love to see some vids about the best way to distribute weight in a pack or basic things like that.
I know many of your subscribers may find these boring but there is a market out there for it.
Keep up the OUTSTANDING vids bro
