I dont know if it has mentioned but the slip at the end reads "Cor Cordis" which is Latin meaning "Heart or of the heart" so it is implying she stole away a piece of his heart when she left it. It is dispensed in an automated machine shadowing the fact that he never wanted her to take this piece of him and his heart away. Thats just one tiny facet of this multifaceted work of art. I think that this song is more about loss of innocence than of love. As a carnival is a child's thing and rain is often used to describe tears, and water (tears) causes rust, so a childhood stained by tears? Also, potf write about loss of innocence a lot ( given and denied, war...) so it makes sense to me. There are a lot of references to the spiral, or cycle ( lollipop, booth, rollercoaster) meaning that loosing innocence is inevitable. Idk that's what I think.

"Fire" is a bit of an obvious one, "Delicious" is the lollipop, (which is also one of the bands symbols), and "Sorry Go 'Round" and "Locking Up the Sun" are both referenced by The Star man in the machine. (when she starts caring less about the doll). Naturally, he doesn't want her to leave. Also, there's supposed to be a reference to every single song of the album in this video.
