Also, people at Best Buy work hard. They learn everything they can about products so when customers have questions they have the answer. That's why I hate this ad. We learn the benefits of all of our products, many of us are cross trained and learn several departments. Point is, when you feel like you're being hassled by an employee, they're really just trying to transfer knowledge from their head to yours, so when you're ready to buy, you're well informed. No pressure since there's no commissio
Not an accurate depiction of a Best Buy employee. That's clearly what they're going for. We're all geeks at Best Buy. We know our shit more than some random person who felt like writing a review for something they may or may not own. Wanna read a review? Go to bestbuy.com, they're there. It says right on the card what the CUSTOMER RATING is. We can tell you a hell of a lot more technical stuff if you're into it, and teach you how to use products if you're not so tech saavy. Just sayin'.
Best Buy will only recommend you something thats on their shelf! Point and fact! If not they risk losing their job. Point and fact! Neweggs shelfs are endless. (Just about)
I'll challenge anyone to come to our Store in Hawaii and find even ONE Computer Associate that doesn't know about what they are selling. I've also used Newegg for years as a builder- Newegg playing with an exception (as we see in ALL retail) really doesn't mark them as anything other than vying for market share by using misconception and marketing redirects. Sad. While you may find 1/100 employees that is either new, in training or simply filling in during peak times, Seen the same % with NE.
@ancientwolfhi I'm not saying that ALL electronics employees are clueless, no all Geek Squad employees from Best Buy. But the fact remains that, especially in my personal experience (I've visited about 7 different Best Buy stores multiple times throughout the past 2 years), nearly every employee working in electronics in Best Buy or other stores, or in Geek Squad, had absolutely NO clue what they were trying to sell me. I've gone in for HDDs, CDs/DVDs, an external HDD, a monitor (cont)
@CrazyMautty , a graphics card, an HDMI cable, several games and 2 consoles, plus a menagerie of other assorted electronics goods, oh and a mouse and keyboard. Out of those visits (throughout all stores, but especially Best Buy), I've had a total of about half a dozen out of nearly 100 employees that have actually known about the things they sell. (and about half a dozen more knowing about some things but not others) But most of them were clue less about what they sold.
@CrazyMautty I've even had employees, trying to sell me HDDs or Memory sticks that didn't know the difference between a kilo, mega, giga, or terabyte.(tried selling me a more expensive 500GB drive because it was 'higher quality, ran quieter, and was bigger' while a 1TB with higher RPM, a larger memory cache and variable speed sat right next to it for $20 less on sale.) The 'stereotype' against electronics employees is pretty much almost a fact, the intelligent employee is the exception.
this is hurtful to me as an employee who does trainings and knows PCs. obviously i cant compare every spec of a computer by memory for 50+ PCs, but i can explain to customers who know little of PCs what these specs mean and how they can find the best computer to fit them, we arent called bestbuy because we absolutely have the lowest prices, its because (at least for me and my coworkers) we relate with the customer and put a complex idea in simple terms. that is something a website will never do.
@6gh94 lol they have a whole community forum site based on these kinds of issues by people who have experience and not just "trained" people. you dont see best buy giving out free in-depth tutorials on computer theory, building computers, and keeping up with the latest tech. i would rather teach someone how a computer works rather than just tell them what part is better. you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. thats what its all about.
haha, this a funny. And yet so true :( i cant stand going to bestbuy anymore, 1:overpriced products example: i saw an 8400gs graphics card stay around $80 for almost a year. 2:most employees do not know what they are talking about nor how to talk to customers 3:Easytech is a joke, they rely heavily on manufacturer and when warranty does not cover it they(at least at the 5 in my city) send it to another place (that is unknown to me atm) to get your pc repaired.
Maybe if big box retailers didn't offer minimun wage to tech associates they would attract qualified people. Don't make fun of the person, they are just filling the job requirements set by the company.
I applied for geeksquad stating I had extensive knowledge not only of electronics in general, but Linux, Unix, Mac, and Windows. And they turned me away saying I was overqualified.
So you must be an average user, as the person depicted in this video, eh?
@richardhehd Try me bud! and as far as being OVERqualified for Geek squad? nothing you listed is an actual qualification sorry. Do you know what certifications entail anything you were talking about? you aren't overqualified for shit. as stated previously TRY me ill show you ive forgotten more about computers technology than you know :(
@richardhehd Sells experience? I picked up BB partime with knowledge in all of the above. First impressions, and background in sells mean a lot to BB. Knowledge is huge but they pay you to go thru apple, Hp, and vendor specific training and exams.
Dialogue should go more like: Employee #1: HI! CAN I HELP YOU FIND SOMETHING? Customer: No thank you. Just looking for a thumb drive. Employee #1: Well, just so you know, we don't get paid on commission. Customer: Uh, okay. Employee #1: Well, let me know if you need any help. Customer: I'll do that. Employee #2: HI! CAN I HELP YOU FIND SOMETHING? [similar dialogue] Employee #3: HI! CAN I HELP YOU FIND SOMETHING? [similar dialogue] All of this could easily fit into a 30 second spot.
@tommysch you are wrong my friend. You walk into a car dealer you expect the guy selling you a car to know what the Hell he is talking about. Sure you should have some level of knowledge about what you are buying so you won't get scammed but you don't have to be an expert as a consumer and most people may not be looking for the sales man opinion like in this case he just wanted to know "whats the difference between the two."
Good ad, because the fact of the matter is stores like Best Buy and Futureshop have complete noobs working their :P, at least in regards with computers. And not to mention the prices are so much higher..
@marouanbak None of it's spam, they remove stuff like that since it takes literally 3 days for a review to get put up. I really hate seeing 1 star reviews for RMA failures even though the thing works right or some kid with "High Tech Knowledge" who isn't even a verified owner complain about something that's just stupidly obvious and ruins the rating of the product...
I used to work for bestbuy and I know tons about computers I build about 2 new computers a year to keep up with newer games. I was placed in media and I asked for almost 2 years to be transferred to computers when a spot opened up. Everytime they would hire a new guy who knew nothing about computers and I would always see pissed off people in computers. No wonder bestbuy is going under.
Cant blame some of these workers though.. I know alot of desktop computers but I have never owned a laptop or cellphone so my knowledge with those is limited. But I could tell people the difference between laptops.. however with cellphones.. I am clueless.
I have had THAT EXACT EXPERIENCE of a Best Buy employee reading tags on the front of display items to try to answer my questions. And then I had to explain to him that AirPrint and Wi-Fi were not the same thing... Don't know if he believed me.
Best Buy is feeling the effects of improved efficiency and technological processes. They're attempts at trying to litigate their way to success is pathetic.
I totally agree that the people that work at best buy are seriously uneducated when it comes to technology, and not to mention their geek squad people are retarded beyond belief, but not all electronic sales associates are dumb. I work at the electronics department at Sam's Club and I've had 9 years of experience being a computer tech so I know my shit, and my goal is always to enhance the customer's experience with technology.
One Best Buy associate told me that she did not know anything about the item I was looking at and she would get someone who knows; she never came back with anyone.
Ah, gotta love newegg. The only problem is those "non techies" who don't trust the internet for large purchases. After hearing multiple recommendations about Newegg, I tried ordering a small item (Like a flash drive or something) and I've been happy with their price/speed/service every since. Go Newegg!!
I like best buy for one thing, so I can go see in person the TV or other electronics that I am going to buy from Newegg. :) I love you newegg! Will you marry me? :P
I work at best buy, and to be honest, as an hourly employee with no commission, I couldn't give two fucks if you bought the damn tv or not. Actually, I hope you don't buy it so I don't have to lug the damn thing around for your weak ass. So, if I can spew some nonsense at you (which I will if you're a douche) to make you leave the store, I really don't care. It's a part time job that I work only if I feel like showing up. Don't care.
@Brizeaku (Part 1/2) Wow, it's nice to see what our "everyone's a winner" school programs are breeding. More and more I see self-involved, entitled, obnoxious kids/teens/twenty-something’s who think the world owes them something simply because they exist. Reality check, if your part time job is selling TV's & you are failing the store that means they are losing money, which means they have less ability to grow and provide more jobs, and those stores are in communities which rely upon tax money.
@Brizeaku (Part 2/2) Therefore, you not doing your job selling TV’s may lead to something worse, the store closing down, means the city has less income resulting in a reduction in service. But naturally you don’t care because you are entitled to whatever you want. You are a winner at everything in life because in your school everyone got a trophy or ribbon & nobody kept score. I can’t wait to see where you turn up in life.
@Brizeaku I happen to agree i too am in this dudes position working a PT hourly position at a retail store and with no added benefit besides a SMALL bonus here and there my give a fuck meter may as well be broken for the douches out there
@Brizeaku And you wonder why there's commercials like this bashing Best Buy. skibum415 got you pretty much spot-on. (A thank you to him/her for that.) The sad thing is you'll have that exact same attitude with a career, should you ever get one. Get used to being fired now so the repetitiveness of it doesn't get you down later on.
@TheShorttii There are commercials bashing Best Buy because it's a hellhole. I frequently tell fucksticks that come in the store to just buy it on newegg, don't care.
@Brizeaku honestly I hope best buy reads this, finds out who the fuck you are and fires your ass! You give electronics sales associates a bad name! If you don't like your job, then fucking quit and do something else. Its not the customer's fault that you are not getting paid as much as your heart desires!! And the nerve you have calling them douches, they (customers) don't have to be tech geeks to buy tech, that's what the fuck you are there for, to help them choose you stupid cunt!
@Freakkemz Lol, too bad my boss lives in my house and pays me rent, and the district manager is a regular drinking buddy of mine. All we talk about at the bar are the uneducated douches who shop at our store. Lol. It's okay though, I only work there for the scholarship and for some booze money. Couldn't give two fucks if I get fired, bosses rent might just go up though.
@Freakkemz It is the management and PR fault for trying to present the half retarded high school kids that they hire as computer experts. Than the LUser (consumer in that case) is also to blame for expecting quality service from a minimum salary employe in a large surface store. Both are as dumb and disingenuous. People with skills dont work for fucking BB or Wallmart... I saw this as a self-evident truth.
That's exactly the problem. If you don't care about the job, and you don't care about showing up, you should simply not be at that job. It doesn't make you look as bad as it does the company, if people actually tried at their jobs, even if they were temporary, then there wouldn't be half as many complaints about any company. It would come down to the corporate bigwigs in the business for making a quick buck.
I used to work for a large computer retailer that is no longer in business, and I can say for a fact that this is how most the the sales people are. I was the one who had to try and teach them a thing or 2 so they did not make total fools of themselves. GO NEWEGG!
I have nothing against the Best Buy employees, they work just as hard as any other employee. And when you get paid off of commisions (at least that's what I've been told) I'm sure you would spend some time to learn at least a little about what you are selling. I will always buy at Newegg, but I would never insult the employees of Best Buy. I address this comment at the other comments I have seen, not the commercial. The commercial does not address Best Buy or any other electronic store.
@dirnol All best buy employees are hourly, not one of us are commision. I work for geek squad. (And I can't help but laugh at best buy's impulsive and frivolous cease and desist, and newegg's epic response. I don't take myself so seriously that I'm blinded to some of the drooling morons I work with.)
I love Best-Buy!... just kidding. This commercial makes them look smarter than they honestly are. The true Worst-Buy experience would have been him making up something that sounded smart to the average person and not actually even read the info cards at all.
In early 2002, I was an experienced computer tech, but out of work because of the DotCom bust. I tried to get a job on the Geek Squad (but would have taken any job really -- wife and kids to feed) at a Best Buy but they refused me because I was over qualified. Over qualified??? Don't you want the best people working on your customers computers??
A few years ago I was told the same thing by a local cable company. I wanted a job as a beginning tech, and they told me I was overqualified for the job and they didn't want to hire me because I would get bored.
I was 19 years old and working at Safeway. I was so mad about that.
When i worked at Walmart, I was THE go-to-guy in electronics. Why? Cuz I know my shit, and I'm a damn good salesman. Wish I could have another job working retail electronics and/or PC sales.
As someone who used to work at Best Buy, I know for a fact that most people selling the products don't know a hard drive from a graphics card, and that includes the Geek Squad (who don;t know what msconfig is) and management (who think a "router" is pronounced "rooter")
@Combatmedicguru I had a guy from BB who sold us a monitor... I wanted to know if it had audio (you know, speakers built-in) he didn't bother to look it up... but it had a symbol on the box from what I could see, however that doesn't set in stone that it has speakers on it... he said no... We go back, I unpack it. It has speakers. FML
Then another time I asked if they had any DDR3 ram... and the guy replied "ram?"
just wow. When we worked at a Hardware store, everything new that came in, i built, tested, benchmarked. We stocked over 30 different motherboards, and just as many Video cards, and many different printers, peripherals and everything. When we got a new product, it was built into a system and tested. We also tested many games too as this was popular for people getting custom systems. We also sold them what they needed and not extra crap. Like crap software we would NOT install to save space.
Newegg is God. All Praise Newegg. Bestbuy are a bunch of faggots. (And this is a perfect interpretation of how shopping for computer hardware is at a retail store, 14 year old kids that dont know shit)
Not a fan of BB myself. Their customer service sucks and their sales people aren't knowledgeable, nor are they very cordial. I asked a simple question one day to a salesperson, and when he answered, I said "Ah, I kind of figured as much, just wanted to make sure", and his response was "Well, why did you bother to even ask then???" I promptly left their store and went to a competitor, which was a good thing, because I ended up saving $900 by buying the floor model. Oh, and they killed Geek Squad.
I used to work with CompUSA, and Best Buy... 6 years in the retail industry... i got fired for doing too much... it seems they want mindless drones and not people with brains helping their customers.
@NeologicStudios I also worked in a Best Buy over 10 years ago, and was let go for the same reason. Actually, my store got rid of all of the knowledgeable employees around the same time, and hired the mindless drones that they are now known for.
I once took my PC to Geek Squad and told them my computer was randomly shutting down and I wanted them to fix it. 3 days later I got a call and was told my computer was ready. When I arrived, I was told they thought it was a 'hardware' problem and that I owed them 140 bucks. When I asked if my PC was fixed or not, they replied 'We are unable to determine what's wrong because the PC shuts down during our diagnostics." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? F*CK BEST BUY.
@shanegrogan1 Does happen, I get BB customers all the time and I own a shop. Half of their diagnosis are wrong, no doubt they might have some competent people maybe 1 or 2 per store. But usually thats not the case. OH, and their rates are way over priced. IN FACT they ship off lcd repairs, powerjack repairs and anything that requires disassembly. How are they professionals??? Please explain.
lol looks more like wal mart than best buy, but i guess best buy must have seen familiar things happen in their stores, so they got butthurt about it.
@Wixdfast2 actually some systems, the amount of SHARED ram that an integrated video chip has available to itself can and will be based off how much RAM you have installed. So it could have had SOME truth to it :)
The few times I have been to mortar and brick stores (gift cards usually) I've heard conversations like that before with an associate helping out a customer. Their associates really know nothing but it is rarely exposed because the customer knows even less generally. I have told a few people having trouble about Newegg though.
@RHINO0187 This happened last time I was in a best buy store. I was looking up the resolution of the 15" Macbook Pro in the System Properties. I see it is 1440 x 900. A STORE MANAGER comes by and asks if I need any help. I told him what I was doing and what I found. He told me that the resolution (1440x900) on the Macbook Pros was BEYOND 1080P! And he said it was because it is an L-E-D-L-C-D. He said it real slow expecting as if I was stupid. I abruptly stopped and walked out of the store.
i purchased a computer at best buy and the guy had no idea what was in the computer, and then he told me that the floor model would take 4 hours to "unlock: as he had to install the system and unlock it.. lol

JustinHEMI05 8 months ago
I work at best buy, and to be honest, as an hourly employee with no commission, I couldn't give two fucks if you bought the damn tv or not. Actually, I hope you don't buy it so I don't have to lug the damn thing around for your weak ass. So, if I can spew some nonsense at you (which I will if you're a douche) to make you leave the store, I really don't care. It's a part time job that I work only if I feel like showing up. Don't care.
Brizeaku 8 months ago 3
@Brizeaku (Part 1/2) Wow, it's nice to see what our "everyone's a winner" school programs are breeding. More and more I see self-involved, entitled, obnoxious kids/teens/twenty-something’s who think the world owes them something simply because they exist. Reality check, if your part time job is selling TV's & you are failing the store that means they are losing money, which means they have less ability to grow and provide more jobs, and those stores are in communities which rely upon tax money.
skibum415 8 months ago 3
@Brizeaku (Part 2/2) Therefore, you not doing your job selling TV’s may lead to something worse, the store closing down, means the city has less income resulting in a reduction in service. But naturally you don’t care because you are entitled to whatever you want. You are a winner at everything in life because in your school everyone got a trophy or ribbon & nobody kept score. I can’t wait to see where you turn up in life.
skibum415 8 months ago 3
@skibum415 Hopefully the store does close! Make Obama's numbers look even worse.
Brizeaku 8 months ago
@Brizeaku I happen to agree i too am in this dudes position working a PT hourly position at a retail store and with no added benefit besides a SMALL bonus here and there my give a fuck meter may as well be broken for the douches out there
iseeingi2i 8 months ago
@Brizeaku And you wonder why there's commercials like this bashing Best Buy. skibum415 got you pretty much spot-on. (A thank you to him/her for that.) The sad thing is you'll have that exact same attitude with a career, should you ever get one. Get used to being fired now so the repetitiveness of it doesn't get you down later on.
TheShorttii 8 months ago
@TheShorttii There are commercials bashing Best Buy because it's a hellhole. I frequently tell fucksticks that come in the store to just buy it on newegg, don't care.
Brizeaku 8 months ago
@Brizeaku
Oh, so your just a contributor to the problem? You sound like anigga ass pussy bitch to me.
TheShorttii 4 months ago
@Brizeaku honestly I hope best buy reads this, finds out who the fuck you are and fires your ass! You give electronics sales associates a bad name! If you don't like your job, then fucking quit and do something else. Its not the customer's fault that you are not getting paid as much as your heart desires!! And the nerve you have calling them douches, they (customers) don't have to be tech geeks to buy tech, that's what the fuck you are there for, to help them choose you stupid cunt!
Freakkemz 8 months ago
@Freakkemz Lol, too bad my boss lives in my house and pays me rent, and the district manager is a regular drinking buddy of mine. All we talk about at the bar are the uneducated douches who shop at our store. Lol. It's okay though, I only work there for the scholarship and for some booze money. Couldn't give two fucks if I get fired, bosses rent might just go up though.
Brizeaku 8 months ago
@Freakkemz It is the management and PR fault for trying to present the half retarded high school kids that they hire as computer experts. Than the LUser (consumer in that case) is also to blame for expecting quality service from a minimum salary employe in a large surface store. Both are as dumb and disingenuous. People with skills dont work for fucking BB or Wallmart... I saw this as a self-evident truth.
tommysch 8 months ago
@Brizeaku

GO NEWEGG!
Dracus661 8 months ago
I have nothing against the Best Buy employees, they work just as hard as any other employee. And when you get paid off of commisions (at least that's what I've been told) I'm sure you would spend some time to learn at least a little about what you are selling. I will always buy at Newegg, but I would never insult the employees of Best Buy. I address this comment at the other comments I have seen, not the commercial. The commercial does not address Best Buy or any other electronic store.
dirnol 8 months ago
@dirnol All best buy employees are hourly, not one of us are commision. I work for geek squad. (And I can't help but laugh at best buy's impulsive and frivolous cease and desist, and newegg's epic response. I don't take myself so seriously that I'm blinded to some of the drooling morons I work with.)
Cheers.

I love Best-Buy!... just kidding. This commercial makes them look smarter than they honestly are. The true Worst-Buy experience would have been him making up something that sounded smart to the average person and not actually even read the info cards at all.

Well, yeah. Best Buy sucks.

In early 2002, I was an experienced computer tech, but out of work because of the DotCom bust. I tried to get a job on the Geek Squad (but would have taken any job really -- wife and kids to feed) at a Best Buy but they refused me because I was over qualified. Over qualified??? Don't you want the best people working on your customers computers??
tgoyer 8 months ago 4
@tgoyer They probably wanted to hire two under qualified teens than pay you what you are worth.
renemv86 8 months ago
@tgoyer

Wish I could have another job working retail electronics and/or PC sales.
penguisher 8 months ago
As someone who used to work at Best Buy, I know for a fact that most people selling the products don't know a hard drive from a graphics card, and that includes the Geek Squad (who don;t know what msconfig is) and management (who think a "router" is pronounced "rooter")
Combatmedicguru 8 months ago

NeologicStudios 8 months ago 2
