@gsklrs Quite the opposite. These are simple, folkloric songs, made by, and intended for, "laymen" as you put it. These interpretations allow people like me, who have been brought up in the world of classical music, a far more complex and demanding world, to access the songs without being put off by the amateurish voices of folk singers...

S.Yannatou is one of the only Greek singers i like nowadays. She stands out.

Yannatou is an excellent singer, but this type of opera-like singing is so foreign to this music... For anyone who has studied the old recordings, this is simply an offence to ones' aesthetics.

@eyorgos Είναι γεγονός ότι η Σαβίνα το κάνει πιο δυτικότροπο απ' όσο είναι από μόνο του. Αλλά έχεις δίκιο: το κομμάτι δεν είναι ανατολίτικο, είναι καθαρά Σμυρναίικο (ανατολικοδυτικό). Επιπλέον η Σαβίνα δεν παριστάνει ότι λέει μανέ με τον τρόπο π.χ. του Νταλγκά ή της Παπαγκίκα. Προτείνει τη δική της «ανάγνωση», με σεβασμό (νομίζω). @gsklrs "Unsurpassed" by whose criteria? Savinna Yannatou is a great singer, and the fact that she is classically trained, allows people like me access to such songs that would be otherwise totally alien for my taste. The voices of folklore singers are for me and, I am sure, other people like me, a barrier. She creates a whole new audience for these lovely melodies, and also realizes the melodies' full potential.
