I began training as an original cast member at WDW in July, 1971, and after training off property, was assigned as a Lodging Host for the Contemporary Resort Hotel as part of Guest Services, in September, 1971. Amazing to see the changes that have occurred in the last 40 years. Thanks for sharing!

@CheerDiva112 There are several hotels off property. Some are very nice and some are simply holes in the wall. The big difference is that you loose some of the perks when staying off Disney property. For example the bus transportation and pickup, free parking and the general close location to things.

Nickolodean has a nice hotel right outside, as well as the gaylord (higher priced). There are a lot of deals on 192, last year we stayed at one place three times, because it was $25 a night.

Ah, that would explain it! it looks amazing! Me & my family really don't know yet, thinking about staying at 2 different hotels for the 2 weeks we're going. My Mom like's the sound of The Polynesian though, but i'm a more modern type person. What's The Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort like? x

It looks really modern! Didn't think it would be THAT modern (contemporary). I'm really not sure where to stay at, either Polynesian, Beach Resort or here! Too many choice's hahaa. Has this hotel been recently done up or something? x

@xashleykamix Yes, it was revamped about a year ago. All three of those are great choices and 3 of my 5 favorite places to stay. What I would say is which park do you think you are going to be in more? If Epcot or Studios then beach club may be the way to go. If Magic Kingdom then you may want to be on the resort loop for the monorail. Eitherway you can't go wrong though with any of those.

@xashleykamix Well they can move your stuff for you if you decide to do that just let them know. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is very nice, but it is further away from the action. Which there is a lot to be said about being able to just walk out of the park and be at your resort. That said, you can still ride the bus to anywhere just a fifteen minute ride or less.

@AJhuntington1 A great time to go, everything should be decorated for Christmas, it will look very nice. The weather is also great, if your lucky it will be cold weather and a great time to sip hot coco while walking around the resort or the parks.

Let us know how your trip was once you get back. Depending on what time of winter and where you are coming from you may want to back for both warm and cold. Any questions you may have just let me know, will be happy to try to help.

@AJhuntington1 Sorry, icomco is my work account, didn't realize I was on that when I replyed.

Unfortunatly, I do not see what closures there will be that far out yet. Often though they will close one of the water parks for maintanince, but the other will be open, so you always can go to one, but you can't guarantee at that time of year which one it would be.

Magic Kingdom = christmas party.

Epcot = Candle light Processional (very good) and santas

Studios = Osborn lights (very cool)

We do live close by but, still stay on property a few times a year. Right now we are taking a year break from the actual park, but have been to the resorts and downtown disney a few times.

So any questions are welcome, I love talking about the parks and it's nice to help people with their planning.

hi, i absolutely love disney world but i live 4 thousand miles away so its rather pricey to come! When would you say would be the best time to come? i flew out there early september which is when i usually like to come as its quiet but still hot, trouble is this time i brought my boyfriend along. He loved it but found it was to hot so my next visit will have to be in a cooler month. When would you suggest ? I want to come at a quiet time but i need the waterparks to be open?

@tinybunny10 Well every year the times are slightly different but they often close one of the waterparks in the winter months. However, if one is closed the other should be open. It depending on the weather, it could be to cold, atleast for me to do a water park though. So I would recomend Nov or Feb if you are looking for a cooler time. The last week of November will have the Christmas stuff up as well, and all of October will have the not so scarry in the magic kingdom.

Yes, it is a lot of fun. It is a buffet style and well worth it. Be warned it can be hard at times to get reservations so just keep trying if you don't book early.

It's very hard to get reservations. My husband and I had a reservation and were seated about 15 min late of that (didn't mind the wait, not a big deal). Food was good, not outstanding. Did see all the characters in a timely fashion. Great dessert bar.

Yeah, I think Chef Mickey's is a great resturant after a long day at the park. You can sit down relax and have some good food and the kids are distracted with the characters and monorail.

We stayed at the Grand Floridian ( 2nd time) in Nov 2008... LOVED it. My kids really want to stay at the Contemporary the nex time...is it better than the Grand??? Our room was great! I stayed at to Contemporary in1975 but still go to visit!!!

I would not say which is better, I think it is more an issue of taste and style. For me they are on the same level, just different.

Did they re-do the shops and such floor. Last time I was there was I believe 2006 and they had the 2 restraunts and then the souvenier shop, the pin section in the middle and such. I dont remember the game room and that. Did they change it?

Love the refurb. Can't wait to stay at DVC's Bay Lake. My hubby and I stayed here 19 years ago on our first vacation together. He leaped out of tub and watched the Electric Water Pageant in a towel. We had fun, now we have two kids 15 &13. Now we've danced at Chef Mickey's together. LOL Going back in June ;o) to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time. WOOT!!!

This is a bit pricy as this is one of Disney's Deluxe resorts, but it is well worth it. That said, when you stay on property at any of the Disney Resorts you may visit others. So if you are staying at another resort I would recommend visiting the Contemporary for Dinner or Breakfast one day if you are interesting in seeing things.

They have remodeled a lot of the first and fourth floors. The snack area is right next to the bar across from the Steak House and Chef Mickey's. This used to be just a seating area...

This is really a good Video It shows all the stuff it has most of the videos that are about this hotel are way old. It good to see someone with a regular video cam updated on what in this hotel. I know I was there in December and it is an awesome futuristic Hotel to just visit even though I wasn't staying at this one. It really good for people who uses a wheelchair like me.

This is a really good up to date video of the Contemporary Hotel, I remember the 4 floor well and the very top floor. Other videos of this hotel did have that mini shop next to their mian shop and monorail station that is just above you.

Thank you, they have been redoing the 4th and 1st floors in stages over the last few months. They are going to also have a sky walk way from the 4th floor over to the 5th floor of the Kingdom Tower when that is finnished. So DVC people should be excited...

You mean the new tower that they were building by the wildness like? Is the skywalk way contect from out side 4th floor or inside?

Yes, the building on the north side near the Magic Kingdom. This when completed will be as tall as the contemporary and have a sky walk connecting to the 4th floor of the main building. The new building is going to be named Kingdom Tower and will be a DVC (Disney Vacation Club) Resort. So it should be a lot easier than the old building that was there to stay in the action of everything. This is also all tied into the revamping of the 4 & 1 floors of the main building to bring things updated.
