  • SO Great, wow. It doesn't hurt that they chose such a fantastic group of songs to cover, such great songs. Great singing . Some of the 'innovative' arrangements don't live up to the originals , which were often perfect , but some of the innovations work , which is a nice surprise. ALL HAIL 'THE QUEEN' ! ~ Dana Owens ~

  • Travlin light is my favorite..everyone should have this CD

  • anything the "queen" does she does it full out and with CLASS - whatever venue of music, acting, hosting award shows..etc

    BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO

    -one of a kind-

    thankYOU 4 sharing

  • Love Q.L. But also love Phoebe Snow version!

  • My parents are really close frineds w/ Phoebe! She is awesome!

  • really wow !!! that was my mother's favorite sing in the 1970's i gotten into in the 1970's also. i thought many people don't know about her. i love Queen Latifah. i hope she stick to the jazz and acid jazz. one of her songs sounds like a jamiroquai song also. i just love her . she have a very beautiful voice . also in this new jamiroquai cd Jay promised to do it all acid jazz. just like there older stuff.

  • To me it's a Temptation song entitled "MY GIRL"...love the Queen, besides, she and I have the same last name...Owens

  • Bravo!!! A nice twist from hip hop. Go Queen. She was great in 'Last Holiday' starring L.L.Cool J.

  • The industry doesn't have the intellectually moral capacity intertwined within their creative *control* to embrace this as it truly should be.

To be fair, sometimes it IS timing.

But often times, its merely commercialism.

It confuses the masses that someone bred in hiphop has the range (& intelligence) to produce this level of art.

Hers will always be a thoroughly underrated voice...

but obvious talent cannot be denied.

  • We must remember that hip hop artist know a lot more about music then most people give them credit for. Just because you rap does not mean you have no music knowledge. Hip hop started from sampling records that were already done and putting a new twist onthem. Listen to Latifahs first two albums and you will see jazz samples. folk samples, soft rock and of course her singing. Do your music history homework. This is critically acclaimed music, not meant for the mainstream; larger audience!!

  • that is very true . but i hate hiphop. i haver always have said that myself . because i heard many rap stars say they listen to hiphop and country and jazz. after all they have to know whats out there to sample to put on here tracks. like my favorite groups like , jamiroquai , david bowie, duran duran, Rush ,Devo, adam ant , Kraft work. i am black but i love jazz and rock & roll. i just love everything but rap music. but i am a very huge 80's fan. because that is my era along with the 70's.

  • yeah I am black too and i listen to everything--classical, folk rock, soft rock, metal, pop, country, blues, jazz, alternative, neo soul, classic rand b--everything!! I am a big fan of the 80s too but not just on new wave or 80s rock but all the musical genres--I love me some duran duran, hall and oats, eurythmics, aerosmith, david bowie is the man! Oh and genesis after peter gabriel left the group. Man there is some serious music out there, right?Rap ain't for everyone but it ain't going away

  • I agree that her voice is underrated, but at the same time I have been listening to her music since 1986 so I know her talent as does many fans, industry colleagues, and her broadway audience. The woman is an amazing talent and that is why she has remained a household name for almost 3 decades now. She is a business woman, fashionista, actress, singer, songwriter, rapper and overall positive influence for people overall.

Thanks for bringng back some of the classics

  • I like her singing, but I miss her hitting that funky beat and tearing up the stage!

  • really nice!!!

  • She's very sexy.

  • Read people, this post is about her album Queen Latifah - Trav'lin' Light , its not saying the song she's singing trav'in light, because this video is showing a few songs from that album so read!

  • Fantastic voice!

    *****

    Hilde

  • i'm definitely buying! All hail the Queen! she's so beautiful!!

  • This is not Travelin Light. This is an old Phoebe Snow classic "Poetry Man" I love the Queen!

  • this is about her whole cd which is featuring some of her songs off the album, they're not saying this song is poetry man

  • Well, thanks for clearing that up. LOL

  • nice album, buy it if u have not brought. a bit jazz. those who don listen to jazz. u don buy it as u are waste money due to it is not genre. go all the way queen

  • what is it, dat people have...........they always like to compare!!

voices are always diferent.....beyonce is beyonce and queen is queen!!!

  • lol everytime someone does like one little thing there always better then the best, sorry do 10 years of it, dance and sing like no other, be the first to set records, have 10 or more grammys, like it kills me, I love queen latifa but dont say she is better on just hearing a clip of her singing its really not valid, beyonce is queen as you said bombelona

  • she is so amazing, she out-does Beyonce EASY!!!!

from rap to soul to academy awards, (and don't hate on me, i know beyonce is great)

Latifah shines and she deserves to! I'd wait in line to ge myself some tickets.

    AMAZING WOMAN!

  • omg shes the best...i love her...she is so beautiful and this voice...thats music

  • wow

  • i always knew she had it in her to do more than rap. i'd love to hear her do some ketty lester, for i know she would do her justice. Ketty was one of the best singers ever. come on queen let me hear you do all the old classics the way i know you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lovely version of Travellin Light. Im sure i heard a great cover she did also of Hello Stranger. Dont try and pigeonhole people she can do whatever she wants especially after Chicago and Hairspray. Go sista.

  • maybe this is her softer side you go girl

  • I'm going to get ths album...WOW !!! Look out she tops Billie...and Patti!

  • Man, I been sleeping on this album, but this presentation just woke this sleepy head up, fo' really. Loved all the songs, but, the Trav'lin' Light song is that one! Really diggin that one. And, as for her being a singer, she surprise the heck out of me.

Didn't know she had this in her. She sounds gorgeous singing jazz. She's gotta new fan here, but I was a fan of hers when she was ripping mics. Shall we say that I'm a fan of this venture here? I think "Yes" is the definite answer!

  • I love it, I love her, soooo delightful, THIS IS SINGING

  • phoebe snow? poetry man? interesting...

  • loove her!

    BEAUTIFUL MUSIK!

  • i like it, but i think that a little bit of force in her voice wouldnt be bad, her voice is not reflecting her actitud (im refering what we see in the movies)

  • I am so glad that she ventured out and took at a shot at something else. Although she is one of the greatest females in the game. Everyone has more than one talent and she found hers. Way to go Latifah!

  • trav'lin' light, the single, sounds very nora jones'ish which i love.

  • i luv it.... she has a similar tone of voice to gloria stefan's

  • I...smell...VEGA$!

  • Yes she can sing and she has always been able to sing...you just dont wake up one day and have vocals. She did her rap thing it pushed her out into the masses.....she acts....produces......and now she is in her 40's which is a wonderful time TO MAKE GROWN FOLKS MUSIC. Now if some of her peers would follow her example of GROWING UP AND LEAVING THE CRAZY HIP HOP LIFE to the yonger folks...maybe they would be better examples.

  • Hey:P

she just turned 38 so she isnt in her 40's yet:P

  • Wtf?!

    she can sing?

why didnt anybody tell me, ths is awesome!

  • you havee to see chicago or hairspray she's amazing in those

  • She makes me proud to be a full-bodied, multi-talented woman! Good actress, beautiful singer, excellent speaker and devoted family woman. May God continue to use you for His purposes!

  • I love this song, and she did such a nice renditon of it.

  • why!

  • The END of the ghetto queen! The beginning of a crowned jewel!

  • Queen latifah sings the blues.

  • I like Queen singing but I prefer her rap.

  • i know...she raps really good

  • This just shows that she is more than a rapper. You can't put her in a box. She is all around talented. I admire her versatility.

  • MAN! Queen has got such an AWESOME voice.......She has more talent then most.

  • diz iz a beautiful song i luv it

  • When performing live in Vegas at the Mandalay Bay it was such an intimate show, she's good live. The one song Poetry Man is one of her Mom's favorite. I know her mother is proud, she acts, sings, rap, talk show host and red carpet awards shows. Is she the energizer battery bunny? Queen-luv your talents!!!!!!!!

  • She's a true case of BBB...Big Brilliant Beautiful

  • big blonde and beautiful !! (reference to hairspray :))

  • i love when QL sings jazzy, she just floats with it. you go girl!!

  • Queen Latifah is a brilliant actress, singer, and emcee.

  • She's fantastic (versatile too)

  • i hear ya queen! I'm loving the feel of this

  • Queen on some broadening her horizon typeness

  • oooh shit Queen! she on dat jazz ish...you go queen you go

  • LUV IT!!!

  • Queen has such a beautiful voice! Her voice is awesome on the cd, but hearing her live, she is just amazing.

Does anyone know if she has a music video for this song or if she plans on doing any for this album? I was just wondering, I've never seen this before.

  • queen latifah is truly beautiful in many ways

  • When I watch her doing this kind of music, I feel like I'm watching a fish in water.

Underneath that sometimes tough exterior, beats the heart of a diva, and a very old soul.

  • thanks for postg this one up... im overjoyed 'queen's' now singing more than rapping -- she's got so much talent! a beautiful soul... beautiful voice :)

  • great cd. she came to atlantic city and i am still mad that i missed it

  • @boadarohr.Obviously you aint in this world long enough to know that she was a singer and then became an actrice. She is old skool, she is the best

  • She's good to me and this sampler just shows the depth of her range, this is so good

  • I love you so much, Queen! You are the Best!

    Shoot'em down Baby!

  • Love you so much, Queen! You are the Best! Shoot'em down Baby!

  • interesting...

    jack of all trades...

  • boadarohr, she was a singer even before ahe became an actress!!!

her voise is wondwrful, and the one who dont know anything about his life is- YOU!!!

  • Queen Latifah, I'm in love with you...

  • I absolutely love everything about her, she is just so incredible.

  • i think that his first album was the best "Unity". today most of old and new rappers make soft musik why?

did they lost inspiration or the producters ????

  • I LOVE this new CD. I also LOVE the previous CD. I am going to see her at the Troy Music Hall in Troy, NY on Friday evening and I can't wait. This is one of the classiest performers that we will ever have the privelege to see. I consider myself blessed to be in the same room with her. She personifies CLASS.

    I love you Dana

  • you just don't understand jazz, it's alright, can happen
