They can use cameras, much easier for drivers, especially for long consists ;-)
Oporto's Metro has cams outside trains, while Berlin U-Bahn has cams on platform, and displays placed where the drivers will stop. Both for long or short consists!!
In fact the MetroGenova trains were designed starting from an 80s tramway design... The very first models had even folding doors instead of the most common sliding type!
We hope for a modern 3rd gen family... without mirrors! :-P
