The Thing bout that is Macs performance still is better because the hardware is composed to work wonderful together and the operating system is optimised to be most powerful and the macs single parts are not taken fron 100 different cheapest productions in the world to get the biggest number of theoretical speed which mostly has nothing to say like a great 5 megapixel cam can be much better than a cheap one with 10... this has nothing to say about performance and results

upgradeing is so much easyer because pc's are made so that things can be upgraded the only time you cant upgrade it is when the mother bored is out of date mac is is the only company that makes mac parts there is no compition for better components winin the company there is 100's of companys all compeating for better things for pc's and all that compatition makes it all better but if your talking about an os as an example xp office pro corp edition uses about 15 prosseses on a 2.5 ghz = <1%

You're on the right track. Apple controls all the hardware and software in their machines from start to finish (sans some parts, but most are Apple-branded anyway). This horizontal and vertical integration lets them do what they do with things like Quartz Extreme, etc. Unfortunately, it also lets them jack up the prices of things, which they do. (ex., There is no reason Apple's RAM upgrades should cost 2-6x more than standard sticks, which DO work).
