Rubbish. In the South of Ireland before 1922, the RIC were Irishmen in British uniform, the British Army were Irishmen in British uniform, the Civil Servants were Irishmen. When the Free State was set up these Irishmen just changed the design of their uniforms and badges. Irish people supported Home Rule and the 1922 Treaty was just that - Home Rule in a Free State. Irishmen were just as imperial as the British in Africa and India and elsewhere.

That doesn't mean there still isn't small gangs of thugs around (ie, INLA/UVF!) The fact is, a more peaceful approach is being taken at current.
That includes reform in the PSNI and disbandment of the RUC; to put it simply. The PSNI has more accountability than the RUC did.
The BA was there originally to help regain peace, to protect the Catholics! That, in turn, failed.

That will only happen if the Protestant Unionist population who are the majority in Northern Ireland agree to join us in the South in a 32 county Irish Republic. Bombing and shooting them into surrender achieved nothing. The Unionists will probably never agree to a United Ireland. That's democracy and Republicans just have to accept reality. Killing innocent men women and children achieved nothing.

Ok if Muslims set up a mini-muslim state in Britain it would be impossible to persuade them to rejoin the UK if the non-muslim British reacted with a military crackdown and terrorised them into submission. Instead of negotiating with Irish MP's who simply wanted Irish independence the Brits thought they had a Bolshevik revolution on their hands and sent the Black and Tans to Ireland.

Thats not the whole truth though. The partitioning Of Ireland is a particularly complicated issue. As the majority of people on the island of Ireland are pro unity from a republicans view point that negates any thought of unionist majority

When the British were cracking down on terrorists in ulster they used a pig-headed policy of collective punishment pf the Catholic population and used pro-British loyalist terrorists to assassinate people.
The IRA were equally pig-headed.
Instead of actually achieving military objectives it led to the murder of innocents caught between both sides. That's the point i'm trying make.

I totally agree a chara though the sas capturing Michael Caragher(1 shot sniper),Seamus McCardle, Bernard McGinn etc in a barn in cregganduff in 1997 and i'll quote them "The most important and damaging thing ever carried out in 35 years" The sas ordered not to kill the sniper team shows how powerfull Sinn Féin are. If they had gave us more martyrs by killing the sniper team the war would still be going on.

Do you honestly believe the british public want anything remotely to do with the north of Ireland or its people. The majority of people in britain actually favor Irish unity. However most independant opinion polls paint a similar picture, and unquestionably a huge amount of ordinary decent british people have absolutely no truck with the loyalism of those in the six counties and would rather it was of no connection to them.

Rubbish. In the South of Ireland before 1922, the RIC were Irishmen in British uniform, the British Army were Irishmen in British uniform, the Civil Servants were Irishmen. When the Free State was set up these Irishmen just changed the design of their uniforms and badges. Irish people supported Home Rule and the 1922 Treaty was just that - Home Rule in a Free State. Irishmen were just as imperial as the British in Africa and India and elsewhere.

Thats nonsence. While there were no doubt Irishmen who played very active parts in empire, to suggest that Irishmen were as imperial as British natives is at best revisionism. Any nation that had an anti imperialist revolution and continues to this day to have armed groups with popular support espousing the same ideals is certainly not an imperial one
