In Sou. cal. beach cities (i.e. San Diego), locals refer to Arizonans coming in the summer time as "Zonies", but that word is also used in Colorado, when the ski resorts and log cabins twice a year receives many Arizonans, as well Californians and Texans into the state for vacation. I doubt the term "Zonie" is a pejorative, but not used the same way as "Okie". I have maternal relatives in the Tulsa Ok. area, my late grandfather came to Central Ca. in the '30s, therefore he's a proud "Okie". +
KPHO is said to be the leading TV station in Arizona (or was it KTVK 3?). Oh well, I can recognize that song: also used on KCBS 2 news cast in Los Angeles. KPHO 5 is the third CBS station in Phoenix after KOOL (1960s-80s) and KNXV (1990s).
AngelinCal, Phoenix is the 5th most populous in the US (over 1.5 million, plus half a million winter residents) but Denver is the largest metro area/TV market in the Mountain time zone. Phoenix has 3 million in its' area, but Denver's is 600,000 more. +
