It all starts with exacerbated economic freedom, that leads to big social differences (the amount of money the wealthiest holds), to huge corporations with disproportional amount of political influence, and all the rest. In other developed countries people don't have that much freedom to capitalize money, they all pay much more taxes, that's why they concern more about social problems. But that's also bad, cause economical problems destroy the ultra responsible State.

I've lived in Germany... you don't know how crapy the care they often get. In canada people have reported waiting weeks just to see a doctor for a check up. i can call a doctor and get an appointment for tomorrow. Their are alot of problems in the US but they are caused by crony capitalism, not not having socialised healthcare. As for the '20% poor kids'. The average american poor has two tvs, cable, internet, and more SQFT per person than most of the world.

And single mothers make no worse "choices" than married mothers. The very claim otherwise is frankly ridiculous. We have high infant mortality because only those with MONEY can afford quality care, and single mothers are far more likely to be impoverished since dad didn't stick around to help support his family. Do you have any idea how high our HOMELESS population of single mothers is? Its shameful.

I would have left 10 years ago if I could have afforded it, back before wall street collapsed the world's economy. Back then, many European countries offered FREE college eduction, even to foreigners. Many of them still do for their citizens, but they all ended the free eduction for the poverty stricken when the greedy in our country fucked the planet. We're #1 We're #1- at everything that's bad.

Part of me still wishes to leave but I am not sure I can so easily...I have to try something at least...idk...but if it really shows me there is nothing I can do individually and no movement starts or I am unable to sway the masses in any way I guess moving for my own good and my family's well being might be best for this lifetime.

Why don't you guys come to Germany. There's a severe shortage of professionals, engineers, doctors, teachers, ... Okay, you might have to live with some downsides like bad weather, high gas prices, less golf courses, and of course that horrible language, but therefore there are ... great free health & educational system, less crime, higher standard of living, & no speed limits on the freeway.

I think you highlighted some real problems, but "progressive/liberal" policies only make it worse. Where are the highest concentrations of: violent gangs, unemployment, teen age parents, poorly performing schools...? these areas also happen to be the lifeblood of the leftist political machine. America; with its ever decreasing tax rates for the very wealthy, seems to have become the sort of place where individualism is everything and the good of the people as a whole is of no concern at all. Low levels of poverty, homelessness, crime, infant mortality etc. are a great source of pride in most other developped nations and are a concern to a lot of Americans too I'd bet.... Just not to the ones who CAN change things

It draws out debate better by having a starting point.

It gets the mind thinking more with that starting point, and its interesting to see how others see the world.
