@gambyyt thanks :D it would be considered an aracnid in the group of Dromopoda which includes the harvestmen, scorpians/psuedosciencorpians and camel spiders (although the camel spider isnt a spider at all)
@dougyoolikeme yes those two spiders are also on the list of possible deadly spiders but these are the spiders we know defiently are deadly and are also the biggest threats to peoples life, so thats why those two spiders didnt make into the video.
@demon12792 Mythbusters didnt not extract venom from a daddy long legs, they put adams arm in a cage and forced grandaddy long legs to bite him to see if there teeth were long enough to leave puncture marks and they found that the teeth do leave puncture marks and that the spider is not deadly to humans.
@Socoolscienceshow looked it up on youtube. i found a clip. mythbusters daddy long leg. type it in. should be the first vid. a little after 3 minutes it shows them milking one.
@demon12792 That is not the daddy long legs that appears in the video, that is the grand daddy long legs. (They are two different speices) I didnt say they didnt milk the grand daddy long legs, I said they didnt milk the daddy long legs.
The daddy long legs is the animal that appears in my vidoe, the grand daddy long legs is the spider that appears in mythbusters.
Thank you for this mildly useful information but I feel your comment at about other "media" not being reputable because they aren't scientists nor have "scientific degrees" was unnecessary and didn't do any good for your reputation as a scientist. Scientists would refer to that special area on arachnids as "chelicerae" (or mandibles) not "mouth parts".
"...I remember corrcectly(sp?) is like 0.16micrograms." Remembered or just goggled? Science IS fascinating but don't quit your other job yet.
@poisonlipx 1) the comment there would be most certainly recommended by any other scientist who has even half a brain cell due to the massive ammount of misinformation out there.
2) I know that the mouth part of a spider is called a "chelicerae" but there are younger people who watch these sci files and I keep them simple on purpose, to make science easier to understand for those who may have a problem understanding.
3) no i did not google my asnwer, I have studied spiders before.
I work in a child care centre in Sydney and we get red backs (no funnel webs tho). So during the summer we have to be very careful when doing a yard check in case there are red backs. I've even shown the children what a red back looks like and they know to not touch it and to come and tell a teacher if they see one.
@4getfulness16 You what a good idea would be, paint everything white, fences, sides of builds, any toys or recreational stuff. This way the redbacks wont use those areas as nesting sites and that should keep them away from the area.
@Socoolscienceshow We've actually done that to our outdoor furniture. I don't think it was for that reason but all our outdoor benches, where the red backs always hide, have now been painted white :). They don't tend to hide in our toys. Just the benches. But we obviously check the toys too, just in case. Thanks for the idea tho, I'll definitely bring that up in the next staff meeting ;). We're closed for the year now.
@4getfulness16 We got tons of black widows here in Southern California USA and thats what we do to keep the widows away. Paint everything white, furniture, fences, sides of buildings any area that would be good for building a spider web is painted white. Good luck with that and heres hoping that no one gets bit by a red back becuz I certainly wouldnt want to :)
@shenallh yeh those spiders are not fun spider to be bitten by I was bitten by one of them in my sleep and I dont ever want to be bitten by one of those spiders again,
@Socoolscienceshow thats how it got me. ima new york rican i dont know spiders i know roaches lol. i remember b4 i went to sleep i smack it away like shoo didnt know it was a brow recluse he came back for revenge.
Okay as soon as I saw the lack of voting options I paused the video and almost left. But I thought it would be nice of me to try to warn others. Now i'm leaving.
@14sJakeB190 The reason I removed the like and dislike button is because of stupid people who dont know anything about science. Some pretty stupid people come to these videos and although a good 98% of the people who come here come to learn, theres that 2% of people who are just plain stupid. But Im such an awsome guy that I put my time and energy into educating people. You can thank me for making society a better place to live.
@Socoolscienceshow Well if 98% of the people like your vids and only 2% don't then you wouldn't have to worry about having a bad rating. I think just about all good videos out there have a good margin of 1% to even 10% or more dislikes. As long as you have at least a more than a 50% approval rate then you know most people like it. Anything over 75% is good and 95% and better is very good. 100% is perfect but I don't think ANY major video with a lot of views out there has a perfect rating.
@14sJakeB190 the ratings for the video before I removed the video ratings was 50%-50%. I dont like the like/disllike option bcuz it doesnt do anything but allow people who are insecure and jelous of videos that do better then thers, to damage an otherwise good videos reputation. I personally have wrote youtube several times asking them to remove the like/dislike option from all videos on youtube. The thing is genuinely if a video has alot of views its probaly worth watching... genuinely.
@MrPivotman154 you may want to call some1 to remove them cause they are a deadly spider and if they migrate into your house and bite you or someone else, it could mean some deep trouble.
@MrPivotman154 Haha there not that bad, they mostly stay in thier web nest and dont leave it. They are pretty fast spiders though :D It seems like all the deadly spiders are fast though :D
@MrPivotman154 if one or more also gets inside of the house or figures out a path you need to at least really kill them ASAP if not goodbye cruel world to u
My friend was staying in Australia and suddenly woke up one night with a sore toe. She became frustrated that a silly thing like a sore toe was keeping her awake but tried to ignore it. In the morning she noticed that it had turned black; the nail eventually fell off. She assumed she'd stubbed it.
Her friend later had a look at it. Two fang-wounds were visible.
@FrogmortonHotchkiss yeah that'll happen with redbacks, you really gotta be careful around them. Be happy your friend was bitten by a redback and not the funnel web. Other wise your friend would of been in some serious medical trouble. I hope your friend is doing better now. I havent been bitten yet by a black widow and theres alot of black widows in Los Angeles but I have been bitten by a brown recluse while visiting my gf parents. I was sick for a week, it was not an enjoyable experience :(
Kary Mullis tells a great story about being bitten by a Brown Recluse in his book Dancing Naked in the Mind Field, which I recommend. He is a biologist yet states that he would stomp on the last living specimen, they are so nasty. I understand they tend to create permanent, if not fatal wounds because of the massive infection and necrotism. Kind of like Komodo Dragons maybe; the way they ambush, infect then stalk their prey till death.
@FrogmortonHotchkiss Well I wouldnt recomend people should stomp on every deadly spider thats out there, there are definetly non-violent ways to handle the situation, like spraying the house for deadly spiders and spraying the around the house to prevent them from coming in as well as filling in any cracks or holes. Then again if anyone saw one of the deadly spiders in there home I would suggest simple spray to kill the spider.
@Socoolscienceshow I gave this a lot of thought; I don't really feel compassion for spiders because I think they have little or no internal 'experience' and certainly no sense of self and are therefore incapable of suffering. 'Violence' in any morally meaningful sense must entail causing suffering. But I don't hate them either. I understand the need to spare ecosystems from man-made shocks but I wouldn't take any chances with my own life on a spider's behalf. Find them interesting but creepy.
@FrogmortonHotchkiss It has nothing to do with compasion for deadly spiders, it has to do with the fact that these animals got trapped in your home and cant find thier way out. No reason to kill an animal just because it got trapped by accident. If you took care and prevented these animals from coming in your home you wouldnt have to worry. How-ever when dealing with any deadly spider, for the average person I would definetly recomend that they spray the spider instead of trying to crush it.
@psmccallion The Austrailian red back is known as the "Latrodectus hasselti" and the western black is known as the "Latrodectus hesperus". If you tried to mate a black widow wit ha red back it wouldnt happen because the genetic information wouldnt match up. There for they are two different species. How-ever the red back and the western black widow are in the family "Theridiidae Family " They are related by they are not the same.
Northern Tree Dwelling Funnel Web should be in the top 3, unless you're strictly going by the actual number of people killed by the spiders to rate them. Because the venom of a Northern Tree Dweller will take you out as fast if not faster than a Sydney Funnel Web will.
@Torn80cj All the funnel webs would fall in catagory #2 on a deadliness list. It is true that the dwelling funnel webs are more dangerous then the sydny funnel web (which I didnt know at the time of making this video) I dont go based on the number of ppl killed by the spider cuz that doesnt tell you how deadly the spiders venom is it just tells you this is how many ppl came in contact. I go by the potency of the venom which is a much better way of measureing the deadliness of a any creature.
a redback?? my father was bitten on the head when we went motorbike riding... and the hospital was going to make him wait 3 hours for an antivenom.. so he walked home instead.... and he was fine after a day or so
@lolpancake12345 its possible that it didnt inject venom into your dad or injected such small amount that it didnt have a terrible effect. I've been bitten by a recluse and I didnt die nor did I get sick but that doesnt mean those spiders are not dangerous. Most spiders wont inject venom when they feel threatened, cause they need it to catch supper. If they did injected venom as a safety prcaution then when it came time to catch food the venom wouldnt be there to subdue its dinner.
@ironhell6 canada does have a black widow known commonly has the northern black widow, they also have the western black widow in some of the desert areas of canada :)
@HellFieker I believe spider-man was bitten by a radioactive Steatoda nobilis or more commonly known as the bitting spider in England. I could be wrong though cuz im more of a Batman Fan then a spiderman fan :) But dont worry the Steatoda nobilis is not a spider that will give you super human powers in fact its not even if it bites you its not a dangerouse spider.
@codonauta The Brazilian wondering spider is the most deadly spider on the planet earth. No other spider venom including that of the Funnel Web Species is more potient in the smallest doseage. Of coarse its not the most deadly venom on the planet, the Box Sea Jelly (not jellyfish cuz its not a fish) has the most potient venom of all the venomous creatures.
@Shiv83 I know right, spiders are so very very misunderstood, there made out to be these horrible deadly creatures but most of them are not deadly and the ones that are deadly realy dont want to come in contact with humans, its just we create places where insects love to live and the spiders just follow the insect in our homes and to our gardenes.
@OMFGYOURDRIVINGMEINS Haha I don't know about torching my house :D but I would definitely spray bomb my home if I found the deadliest spider on the planet in my house and probably not wanna go back in for a very long time :D
@Sub4DaCod you gotta be careful when you head into the southern states of the US they got some dangerous animals down there, oh yeah and dangerous spiders too. Haha Im just kidding we love you redneck ppl down in the southern states :)
yeap in terms of which is most dangerous i would say phonetria first then sidney funnel web and then the rest cause they are agrressive both the others are not if attacked but be careful .. spiders cant be identified easily
@gfanarakos On a dangerous level, I would say both are pretty dangerous spiders, both would charge at a human with out a single thought, but on a deadly scale phoneutria venom is much stronger then Atrax robustus. I wouldnt wanna be bitten by any of the spiders on the list but given the choice between the 2 top contendars, I would rather be bitten by the funnel web cuz I would have a better chance at survival. True it is kinda hard to indentify spiders but we do have some good markings to go by.
@AyeOkNowFuckOff not enough caffine and bcuz of your comment im ganna fire the person who told me that it was high enough energy. THEY ARE SO FIRED!!! XD
@crimsonwhine In order for scientists to consider an animal a spider it has to be an arthropod, that breaths air with 8 legs, silk glands and have 2 body segments, an abdomen and a cephalthorax. The havestmen is not a spider becuz it lacks the double body plan and it doesnt have silk glands. In fact some scientists say that the harvestmen are related to scropians not spiders. And spiders are more closly related to ticks then the harvestmen.
@crimsonwhine Arthropods are animals that have an exoskelten (a skeletal shell on the outside of the thier body) Insects spiders crabs lobsters scorpians even the harvestmen these are example of Arthropods which all have a shell on the outside of thier body. No the orb weaving spider is not the largest spider I think that person is misinformed Haha The worlds largest spider is the Goliath Bird Eatting Tarantual and is the size of a dinner plate. All Tarantuals are "definetly" spiders.
Spiders will have 2 main distinct body parts, The Thorax, ( the part the legs, eyes, and mouth are on) and the Abdomen (the big bubble butt part of the spider containing the web material and the spinerettes).... "Daddy Longlegs" or "The Harvestman" are of ONE body part that contains the eyes, legs, mouth, etc. This characteristic is the same as many variety of "Mite".
@mhorton25 Its a cephalthorax which is a head and thorax combined, not a thorax which is a seperate section from the head. Daddy long legs are more related to scorpians then ticks & mights. Spiders are more closely related to ticks and mights then the harvestmen.
@jjparkhill Haha its amazing what people can pull out of thier bum these days and still call it Truth. or rather its even more amazing that people just bllindly believe the stuff pulled from someones bum XD
@raghuscsa316 I agree then I wouldnt have to waiste my time on insignificant barely concious pond scum who are totally convinced of thier own superiority like yourself : /
Thanks for the clarification!!! At long last, this resolves the contest between the funnel web and the wandering spider!!! If I ever go to either country, the first thing I'll do is go to the local clinic, and get a container of anti-venom!!! I've read that neither one is even REMOTELY afraid of us!!!
By the way, how can anyone go "wandering" through the Amazon without being able to detect spiders in the midst? Also, is there a difference between the funnel web and the trapdoor?
@ultramanhayata1 The funnel webs and the trap door spiders are two completely different species of spider although some trap door spiders are related to the funnel webs. Also the trap door spiders are not venemous where a few species of funnel webs are highly venemous. Im sure the people who live in the amazon are very careful when moving through the jungles especially during the night when most of these spiders come out and go in search of food.
Hmm. Not only does the daddy-long-leg not have venom glands, but it's also not even a spider and it's actual name is the harvestman. I leanred three things from this video I never knew before. That doesn't often happen on youtube. Thanks for the edumacation, dude!
@mercedes1575 You have a black widow as a pet? I've herd ppl kept wondering spiders as pets but your the first person I've ever herd who kept a black widow as a pet.
Spiders are very interesting, I think people need to look beyond the tales of horror and understand that these spiders are just eaking out a living and only bite in defence.
@Socoolscienceshow funnel web spider is more deadly than the wondering spider im not trying to start a argument im just saying i agree with thewiidude101
@wwejheaton Then you cant read cuz I already answered his post but hey the world of comedy would be far less interesting with out the stupid ppl on earth.
@lesliegg1961 Thank you very much i rent these dimples at Genertics R us, Im glad your grandson likes the so cool science show. Tell you grandson that Crazy Chris says hi :)

the american black widow and the australian redback are the same spider.
psmccallion 6 months ago

Torn80cj 6 months ago
@Torn80cj All the funnel webs would fall in catagory #2 on a deadliness list. It is true that the dwelling funnel webs are more dangerous then the sydny funnel web (which I didnt know at the time of making this video) I dont go based on the number of ppl killed by the spider cuz that doesnt tell you how deadly the spiders venom is it just tells you this is how many ppl came in contact. I go by the potency of the venom which is a much better way of measureing the deadliness of a any creature.
Socoolscienceshow 6 months ago
finaly some one agrees with me that harvestmen are not venoumese
arachnokid15 6 months ago
@arachnokid15 idk how anyone can believe the harvestmen is venemous either, oh wait I know...
Socoolscienceshow 6 months ago
a redback?? my father was bitten on the head when we went motorbike riding... and the hospital was going to make him wait 3 hours for an antivenom.. so he walked home instead.... and he was fine after a day or so
lolpancake12345 7 months ago
@lolpancake12345 its possible that it didnt inject venom into your dad or injected such small amount that it didnt have a terrible effect. I've been bitten by a recluse and I didnt die nor did I get sick but that doesnt mean those spiders are not dangerous. Most spiders wont inject venom when they feel threatened, cause they need it to catch supper. If they did injected venom as a safety prcaution then when it came time to catch food the venom wouldnt be there to subdue its dinner.

Spiderman was bitten by a Redback right?
Or the Rare Tanzanian RAINBOW spider.
HellFieker 10 months ago
@HellFieker I believe spider-man was bitten by a radioactive Steatoda nobilis or more commonly known as the bitting spider in England. I could be wrong though cuz im more of a Batman Fan then a spiderman fan :) But dont worry the Steatoda nobilis is not a spider that will give you super human powers in fact its not even if it bites you its not a dangerouse spider.

I Think the brown recluse spider, not mentioned in the video, is more dangerous than the Brazilian wandering spider.
codonauta 10 months ago
@codonauta The Brazilian wondering spider is the most deadly spider on the planet earth. No other spider venom including that of the Funnel Web Species is more potient in the smallest doseage. Of coarse its not the most deadly venom on the planet, the Box Sea Jelly (not jellyfish cuz its not a fish) has the most potient venom of all the venomous creatures.
Socoolscienceshow 10 months ago
@codonauta no your wrong.the wandering spider is the deadliest spider in the world.FACT!

spiders are so misunderstood
Shiv83 10 months ago
@Shiv83 I know right, spiders are so very very misunderstood, there made out to be these horrible deadly creatures but most of them are not deadly and the ones that are deadly realy dont want to come in contact with humans, its just we create places where insects love to live and the spiders just follow the insect in our homes and to our gardenes.
Socoolscienceshow 10 months ago
@Socoolscienceshow i would let it live in my home :D get rid of those damn bugs

Socoolscienceshow 10 months ago
yeap in terms of which is most dangerous i would say phonetria first then sidney funnel web and then the rest cause they are agrressive both the others are not if attacked but be careful .. spiders cant be identified easily
gfanarakos 11 months ago
@gfanarakos On a dangerous level, I would say both are pretty dangerous spiders, both would charge at a human with out a single thought, but on a deadly scale phoneutria venom is much stronger then Atrax robustus. I wouldnt wanna be bitten by any of the spiders on the list but given the choice between the 2 top contendars, I would rather be bitten by the funnel web cuz I would have a better chance at survival. True it is kinda hard to indentify spiders but we do have some good markings to go by.

dady long legs isnt a spider???
i never knew that :P
how isnt it a spider though
that i dont understand
what specs does it need 2 b called a spider?
crimsonwhine 1 year ago
@crimsonwhine In order for scientists to consider an animal a spider it has to be an arthropod, that breaths air with 8 legs, silk glands and have 2 body segments, an abdomen and a cephalthorax. The havestmen is not a spider becuz it lacks the double body plan and it doesnt have silk glands. In fact some scientists say that the harvestmen are related to scropians not spiders. And spiders are more closly related to ticks then the harvestmen.
Socoolscienceshow 1 year ago
@Socoolscienceshow ok kool thanks :)
an arthropod?
is that just a name with all those specs u just listed or? lol im a little confused about that part :P
but fair enough with the rest
i was looking up worlds largest spider
and 1 of the results was the golden orb
but that didnt seem right kos the goliath tarantula is the largest
but i read the description and it said that that spider isnt really classified as a spider
is that true?
i rekon hes just pullin shit out of his arse but i wanna make sur
crimsonwhine 1 year ago
@crimsonwhine Arthropods are animals that have an exoskelten (a skeletal shell on the outside of the thier body) Insects spiders crabs lobsters scorpians even the harvestmen these are example of Arthropods which all have a shell on the outside of thier body. No the orb weaving spider is not the largest spider I think that person is misinformed Haha The worlds largest spider is the Goliath Bird Eatting Tarantual and is the size of a dinner plate. All Tarantuals are "definetly" spiders.
Socoolscienceshow 1 year ago
@Socoolscienceshow haha lol ok thanks 4 the info
lol i knew there was somthing wrong with what he was saying XD
im guessing he just wanted more views on his vid
crimsonwhine 1 year ago
Spiders will have 2 main distinct body parts, The Thorax, ( the part the legs, eyes, and mouth are on) and the Abdomen (the big bubble butt part of the spider containing the web material and the spinerettes).... "Daddy Longlegs" or "The Harvestman" are of ONE body part that contains the eyes, legs, mouth, etc. This characteristic is the same as many variety of "Mite".
mhorton25 1 year ago
@mhorton25 Its a cephalthorax which is a head and thorax combined, not a thorax which is a seperate section from the head. Daddy long legs are more related to scorpians then ticks & mights. Spiders are more closely related to ticks and mights then the harvestmen.
Socoolscienceshow 1 year ago

Socoolscienceshow 1 year ago
Thanks for the clarification!!! At long last, this resolves the contest between the funnel web and the wandering spider!!! If I ever go to either country, the first thing I'll do is go to the local clinic, and get a container of anti-venom!!! I've read that neither one is even REMOTELY afraid of us!!!
By the way, how can anyone go "wandering" through the Amazon without being able to detect spiders in the midst? Also, is there a difference between the funnel web and the trapdoor?
ultramanhayata1 1 year ago
@ultramanhayata1 The funnel webs and the trap door spiders are two completely different species of spider although some trap door spiders are related to the funnel webs. Also the trap door spiders are not venemous where a few species of funnel webs are highly venemous. Im sure the people who live in the amazon are very careful when moving through the jungles especially during the night when most of these spiders come out and go in search of food.
Socoolscienceshow 1 year ago
Hmm. Not only does the daddy-long-leg not have venom glands, but it's also not even a spider and it's actual name is the harvestman. I leanred three things from this video I never knew before. That doesn't often happen on youtube. Thanks for the edumacation, dude!
