i did an inspired SRV strat myself years ago. its not exact in looks but the finish and tone are dead on. The Texas Specials really make the tone. I was amazed how dead on the tone was when i first played Little WIng on it. If you want the SRV tone no matter what Strat you have get the Texas Specials!
where did you find 13 guage electric strings? They never have them at any guitar shops. And are they nickel, steel, or nickel plated steel? And do they have them with a wound G string in 13s where you get them?
@RemingtonNevada I found a local shop that sold ernie ball strings individually in all gauges. They have since closed, so I've been having to mix and match string packs to get the correct sizes. Just make sure to use the same brand and material when you mix packs. Find .013, .015, .019(plain), .028, .038 and .058 and you're there!
Hey everybody. I'll be posting a vid soon of my current build - John Mayer's "The Black One". Keep posted or subscribe to my channel to see it. Thanks, dhf97.
Sure. I took a rag and damped it with lacquer thinner. Use the rag to gently rub in the brown polish first. Apply the black later in the areas you need to be darker and more greyish. If it gets too dark, you can use a clean rag and thinner to remove some of the polish. You rub it in and rub it off, repeating until you get the look you desire. Hope this helps. Take care.
@detoth67 Thanks man. I noticed the biggest change in tone when I went to 13's, and raised the action and pickups. Your 70's hardtail should sound great like that. Let me know how it turns out :)
I found a local shop that sells ernie ball strings individually from .009 thru .06. These are .013, .015, .019(plain), .028, .038, and .058. Ive never seen them sold as a set though.
Thank you. I made this myself from aftermarket parts. I did all the paint & relic work, as well as shaping and fretting the neck. The pups are texas specials. I sold this one but Im working on another now.
Nice video man. Love the strat, it looks awesome. Wish I had one like that. The SRC licks sound good too, keep working on it. Definately better then my Stevie stuff :P
You could actually consider making those just like that and selling them on ebay. You could probably get about 2000 to 3000 for each one. I know that there are people who would love to get their hands on one of these and whell fender only made a hundred and they are about 10000 each O:
sadly the guitar was stolen from me back in 2007 and all i have now are pics to remember it by but I plan on making another one day.

Amazing Work! Could you please tell me how you would apply the shoe polish to "age" the wood.

Dude! You nailed the tone!
I've got a 70s hardtail strat with 12's on it. I'm thinking about going up to 13s.
What do you think? Do you like the 13s on your strat?

What brand strings do you use? I've gone to the ends of the earth to try and find 13's and I can't seem to find them. Also is the G plain or wound?

what neck are you using?
khmerguy22 2 years ago
Its made by GuitarMill. I bought it as a blank and did the shaping and finishing myself. Frets are Stewmac 0150 jumbos.
