as a survivor of a gay/hate crime i feel so sad for this young man he had such a long life to live and it was taken away over being gay!!!!!! i had 6 surgeries and i feel so depressed and to this day have not got over it because they did not go to jail BUT THIS BOY DIED!!! Im gay myself, and I cringed when I heard this news about Lawrence, BUT, he wasnt shot ONLY because he was gay. I read all the articles online. Lawrence sexualy harrased and threw his gayness on guys who clearly told him they didnt like it and wanted him to stop and one boy took the wrong path and shot him. I hold the shooter completely accountable but Lawrence wasnt as innocent as we might think.

I understand where Jennifer is comming from with this 14 year old not being tried as an adult BUT he is old enough to know right from wrong...he did an adult crime and should be tried as an adult. The word "homophobia" bothers me because it only partly defines the problem. "Heterosexism" is more accurate. When we talk about oppression of African Americans, we don't say "blackphobia". LGBT @ CSUSM did for Lawerence King is create a memorial at noon from February 25th-29th and would have loved to capture it on video but sadly we were harassed, as well as most of the students there, by radical preachers that were using our demonstration of tolerance and awarness as well as memorial in their fuel of hate, another sad part was that we couldn't do much do to the free speech area, but we continued to continue even with the disturbance, we got more respect and tolerance from this.
