I own this same CRD, 3 years, 135k KM, and zero problems...so far. I can pull my camper, boat no problems, and I still get decent MPG. I won't get rid of this jeep until it dies. We all should demand more diesels in North America.
I don't believe that the reputation regarding diesel is deserved. With the exception of certain General Motors full-sized cars, I don't believe that diesel cars are just as good as gasoline cars. People just need to learn how to maintain them properly.
Mmm, simple and easy mistake to make but in this video, he compared the gas mileage of the SRT8 to the GAS mileage of the DIESEL Jeep in the video. He should have said fuel economy.
I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty with a four cylinder diesel. It is a bit smaller and lighter than the Grand Cherokee. I bought it because I like the size of the Liberty and the diesel was not available in anything else at that time. It has been totally reliable. It pulls like a little locomotive and can get 30 MPG on the highway if conditions are just right. 28 on the highway is normal in 2 wheel drive. Mine has a selector to operate only in rear wheel, all wheel, or low range off road 4x4.
@Tb2x with better electronic engine controls, more effective catalytic convertors, cleaner diesel fuel and the high pressure pump of 20,000 pounds per square inch of the CRD, the engine burns much cleaner. That would not be possible with the high sulfur fuel of years ago.
@cmak1227 : 377 Lbs/ft ; it is as much torque as in a overland with 400hp, but with a 3litter engine and up to 30 mpg. It is no joke ; go try one. :o)
Not much use for that low-range transfer case in Miami Beach. Next video should be with you on a road trip to New Hampshire in December going to Mt. Washington. Then you can see how well this Jeep's CRD performs.
@jfrancx Well they are right actually. This diesel makes 376ft lbs of tq vs the 375 in the 5.7L. Granted that is only ONE more lol but it is still more. They are actually correct in what they say with that so it's not so amateurish.
Why would anybody buy a vehicle that is limited? Horrible marketing. How is it different than the regular Excursion? Is it's electronic top speed set at a lower speed than the regular Excursion or something??
I used to have a 1984 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ 60 ( same of FG 60 but with diesel engine ). The vehicle weithted 4250 lbs and could still get, at 55mph, 33 mpg. This is technology from 26 years ago and what is the improvment consomption wise on nowday vehicle ?
you need a lot of work on presentation. you have too much hand movement. none looks robotic, too much is distracting. looks like you are working on kick-fu kata while talking. kiAAAAAAH!
I am looking at this video because this is the vehicle that I am planning on getting hopefully soon and I must say that I am impressed! I like it because these newer models do have the GPS system built in them & since I am a female; I must say it looks NICE! LOL! Plus I still can drive on rough roads, rocky roads, whatever the case may be. Thanks for the info!!!
If you don't like Jeep then why did you watch it, I'm pretty sure you knew what you was watching because IT'S IN THE TITLE!!!
part of the problem is the auto makers throw in a diesel into a vechile not many ppl buy then say they cant sell in the NA market. If they would drop a 4bt cummins into a wrangler it would sell.
Diesels are really for SUVs. Jeep really did great by putting a diesel engine on this SUV and it's a great addition to the great 4wd system. This made the Cherokee a much more complete true off-roader. I would not hesitate to buy two of these. One for the Artic Trucks mod and one for general use.
Why more SUVs sold in the USA aren't sold with diesel engines is beyond me. With SUVs, full-sized SUVs, you get better mileage than you would with a gasoline engine. Most importantly, with diesel engined vehicles, there's usually more low-end torque. So, why the hell are SUVs not available in North America? That's just wrong, I've never owned a Jeep, nor have I driven a Jeep.
@ffoward2003 Perhaps consumers need to quit whining about how diesels used to be and start trying something new. Surely diesel has come a long way from smelly, slow, noisy contraptions of 40+ yrs ago.
@Seattlecarnut I got a 2003 Jeep liberty with an I4. Love the truck and put some offroad equipment and suspension on it. I will sing a Diesel Wrangler anyday !!! Fuck the Hemi and V6, it's just plain stupid to put so much fuel in a vehicul. But I put the SRT8 in a class appart "Awsome dream machine" !!!
@Bergylicious1 Sweet! I've never owned a Jeep diesel. If I was in the market for an SUV, I'd definitely look into a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD or a Liberty CRD. They both get better fuel economy than their gasoline powered siblings, while also performing just as well (if not better) than the similar gasoline vehicle.
@Seattlecarnut The most obvious reason for not producing Jeep's with diesel is the intelligence level of the American consumer. Of course there is the monetary factor. Start turning out manual trans, diesels and cost to operate and maintain goes way, way down. The PTB can't afford to build cars that aren't turned over in a couple of years, or need to be in the shop on a regular basis.
Would love that engine in my XJ, not to into the new Jeeps, Jeeps aren't meant to look like a luxury car imo, sure its nice, but in the end if I want a Jeep, I want it to be able to go places, ya knwo places where there are no roads, the modern WK is just ugly, really don't know what Chrysler was thinking when designing it, ZJs are deff the less ugly of the models.
no, you can always go to a truckstop if all else fails... here in canada every husky gas station has diesel... if you have a nav system you can find diesel gas stations...
LOL he looks a little like Owen Wilson, his missus is cute though.
WTF is it with the stupid plastic woodgrain crap, it was OK 30 years ago but it looks like shit in modern cars, I would personally not buy a top range model just so I dont get that. Use comp fibre or alloy. Also why would you make it fulltime 4x4 running around the city this will cost you fuel and tyres, is it that hard to make it a crossover?
