Buttons exit at the end might have been faster in a race situation, were he would have taken that extra speed all the way down to turn one again, but since it was just a short race to the finish, driving faster but in much longer line made him loose time!
BTW: I really dislike this curb riding... pre-1994 with the flat bottoms and higher curbs, it was about taking the best line: not about which car had the best suspension for slamming into the curbs, without upsetting the car to much!
The only reason settle took pole here was because of the run to the line. He took a more direct route than JB. Otherwise he was behind for the whole of the lap. Great work by Vettel though for pulling that one out of the bag!
I thought the red bull was glued to the racetrack, but in this video the mclaren looks far easier to drive.. Anyway Vettel did an amazing job to take pole the mclaren looked faster all weekend..
@liviuaileni Lets say the cars are travelling around 170mph or 75m/s. 0.009 seconds is around 0.675m between them (0.009 x 75). Just over half a meter between pole!
Hope that people see this video saying "vettel has the better car over all"...it´s clear that in THIS lap JB has the better car...but vettel takes the pole with an amazing lap!
@MsFormule1: hey, i didn´t want to slight you. I said "nope" which means "no"....not noob what you thought!!! sure, RB had the better car in the last season...but what i tried to say is: in this lap, which the video shows, JB had the better car!! look at the comparison....i have been watching f1 about over 15 years, and trust me, i know what i´m talking about. no reason for bad words!
@rathermmshort Ok, sorry for calling you nope. McLaren have a good car as well, and maybe as good as Red Bull in Japan. But I got give Sebastian credit with this great lap.
But don't forgot that Vettel is the one-lap-specialist at the moment!
@rathermmshort not sure if you understand what it means to have a "better car overall"... a bad setup on the RedBull is good enough to fight for wins, a bad setup on a Mclaren is probably good enough to fight for top 5.. give an HRT a good and a bad setup and it wouldn't make a difference... it seems clear in this video that Vettel had a setup to ride kerbs with np.. hence him stepping on at least 4 without loosing speed
@dario272 except the last chicane its mainly the curbs on the outside that vettel takes much more aggressive which doesnt really depend on the set up as driving over the apex ones, vettel just placed his car more perfectly
@rathermmshort Jenson's sector 1 is better than Sebastian's even if you take off the mistake at turn 6 so that shows you Jenson does more than Sebastian and that's proven when Jenson won the race. Sebastian has a better sector 2 and 3 but Sebastian does have the better car.
@rathermmshort I just told you Sebastian has the better car because you said Jenson "clearly has the better car" but also Jenson did a better sector 1 than Sebastian even if you take off Sebastian's mistake , Jenson still would have been faster with his slower car at Sector 1 and that shows Jenson is better and proves to be in the race he won.
@Anime998877 Mclaren doesn't have a better car in Suzuka. Redbull have won here since 2009. If you think Redbull has a slow car for high speed tracks , look at Monza this year. Suzuka is a high speed but they are high speed corners unlike Monza but even at Monza they won. Redbull has had the best car here in Suzuka since 2009,2010 and 2011 as well. They had low top speed compared to mclaren in 2010 but for 2011 they have almost the same and overall Redbulls are faster like in any race this year.
@Anime998877 This is Suzuka , Redbull had the fastest car here for 2009,2010 and 2011. If you think Redbull has low top speed , that's because it always makes more on the corners of Suzuka unlike Monza it has highspeed straight not highspeed corners, also that's why they seemed weak at Monza in 2009 and 2010 but in 2011 they won even at Monza and for Suzuka in 2011 , redbull have almost the same top speed but the car is faster on corners. Jenson just proved he can be faster and he won in Suzuka.
@LeanFx - You can clearly see in this video how much harder Vettel has to work to get pole position than Button. Even Martin Brundle says the mclaren looks much better to drive here and Webber was 7 tenths slower than the lead mclaren. Mclaren was easily the best car in japan - they dominated all 3 practice sessions, the first 2 qualifying sessions and in the end could not get pole position when it mattered.. But in the race they won because in the end they had an overall faster package!
@LeanFx - Quote from Geoff McGrath - a member of mclaren! "He (Sebastian Vettel) must be a brilliant driver, because by the end of last season we definitely had the best car and he was still whupping us."
@Anime998877 I don't know if that's a real quote off a mclaren member! I read that they removed that right after it was posted but Jackie Stewart says they are behind /watch?v=uF3KiWYtxXM ,of course Sebastian is an excellent driver and has been almost all season but Jenson also proved his excellence in Japan. You can't say mclaren has a better car just because you can see Mark slower than Sebastian , Mark hasn't made an excellent drive in qualifying or race with the new tyre but closer in Brazil
@LeanFx - I didn't say mclaren had a better car overall! I said they had a better car in japan. They topped every single practice, qualifying, and race session except for Q3! Mclaren had a better car in japan but vettel still took pole position - that's all I'm saying... And yes Button was excellent as well.

This is how it would sound a V16 at around 17000 RPM...bets NA machine ever!

clever how they show what nine thousandths looks like in f1 speed. i think vettel had a lucky escape on the straight to the finish line.

Has anyone noticed that the two laps start at different times in the video? Pause at 0:13 and see where the line is in relation to the car noses

It's great! It's so easy to understand now that 0.009 of a second is about one car lenght on track.
