  • "I think you've all heard about the Kevin Moore thing. He signed up to be an astronaut and go to Mars" hahaha, sure Labrie. xD

  • They should've convinced him to stay back then.

  • Comment removed

  • Its funny to see rudess with a 5 octave keyboard! hahaha

this was before derek???or just after??

  • @rsuarez89 before derek

  • Petrucci looks like Akerfeldt here :D

  • i just love that Tung bass Myung uses on the Awake tour. awesome upload! very nostalgic!

  • JR looked kinda funny with his long hair ..., hehehe. But he's always great ..., never failed to impress everybody.

  • what the hell is MP doing on Mapex drums??

  • @seriously777

Mike endorsed Mapex till Falling into Infinity, if I'm not mistaken.

  • @seriously777 He was on Mapex during the Awake tour.

  • @seriously777 he used them for Awake and A Change Of Seasons period. the best DT period 1989-1995 :)

  • @sunnylee84 yes and no, it was indeed the best period but today the music is fresh and new.

  • ESTE VIDEO ES UNA JOYA!! AGUANTE EL MEJOR TECLADISTA DEL MUNDO

  • Maybe if La Brie became fit again he'd hit F# again?... nah, just kiding.

  • labrie is funny as shit :P

  • HAHAHAHA They're playing it too fast, you can hear it in Labrie's vocal phrasing....Also, now you know why Ruddess was chosen to replace Sherinian ;) Cause dude, if he can sight read like that, dude can do anything!

  • I didn't know cameras could have be that good back then. Awesome.

  • omg.....that's jordan in awake album song? waw I don't know

  • ...was Jordan sightreading the entire show? holy fuck, that man can do anything

  • Portnoy has a nice beard in there :D

  • Who else thinks Petrucci is thinking "oh shit, fuck shit it's coming!" right before the solo...?

  • Thank goodness Rudess is bald now... <3

  • what is the title of the first song??

  • seeing james live like this reminds me of why i love his vocals, i know people always criticize him on being very hit and miss with his live performances but he is getting better and better if u ask me. i saw them live last year and james sounded great, i really think he just needed the time to fully recover.

  • Tight pants and white sneakers.....this was DT before....I'd love to see them play live with that dressed up....back to 90's

  • haha NO ONE laughed at Jame's joke about Kevin Moore xD

  • @FazSaber The sound is from the live board/ mixer on stage. Not camera mics.

  • @DTxOctavariumx Yer i know that! haha It's just hilarious hearing him making a joke and not hearing the laughing :P

  • Holy shit!!

    Labrie is amazing here!!!

Is it before his vocal injury?

  • @dbraun86 I think it's before, his vocal injrury

  • This band is sick

    5/5

  • awesome quality! this must have been loud, but there was no clipping in the audio. what camera did you use?

btw i can imagine the initial reaction of the crowd when they first saw rudess. "wtf? one keyboard? and he looks kinda old. he's probably gonna suck his way through the whole show"

    and then came the solo.

  • I was 1 year old when this took place. The best band ever!

  • OMFG, rudess had hair one day.

  • @TheGrayRevolution Sim tinha, mas parecia a Maria Betania ! kkkkkkk

  • Holy shit, JP actually made mistakes in this! This gives me hope..

  • MP with Mapex drums ??? mann ! thats ooolllddd (but gold)

  • Keyboard Great. Vocal Sucks.

  • @petrusmalk This was the Awake tour...when James had blown his vocal chords after a bout of food poisoning. So, yeah not as good as it could have been.

  • Back in the days when they were actually moving on stage

  • Could you imagine if Jordan joined the band at this point instead of after FII? And if James never had his food poisoning accident?

  • la'brie at his fuckin best right here

  • 2:07 James sounds auto-tuned for a second...

  • magic!!

  • i think i speak for all of us when i say

    :D

  • LOL at the beginning it sounds/looks like they broke a lightbulb hehehe

  • 5:09 and onwards is just phenomenal. The way @jcrudess nails the solo and all...

  • Jordan is 100% pure badassery.

  • it's so weird seeing Jordan with hair lol.

  • @Alejandro4891 and without that funky wizard beard

  • so kevin moore left DT coz hes goin to mars lol

  • @mcski022 well, Arizona actually, and then Turkey. but yeah, same thing really.

  • Comment removed

  • Wait, this is the Awake tour if I'm thinking correctly and JR filled in with them before even Sherinian was recruited?

  • @guitarwiz5 Yep, you're right!

  • @Aisse Oh. I never knew he filled in. I just thought they offered him the spot, he refused and then they got Sherinian.

  • @guitarwiz5 actually pre awake release, they did this concert a month before the album came out.

  • @guitarwiz5 1st live show with JR. Never released officially. I was there and didn't know Jordan at the time. Yep, it is him as a guest player. Very cool guy.

  • @guitarwiz5 No, actually I'm pretty sure he ended up not doing that at all because he had something with the Dixie Dregs at the time.

  • when the song was over the crowd was like ... kevin who????

  • Rudess should play this solo in constant motion, not his own!!

  • Could it be possible that LaBrie's food poisoning could be a blessing in disguise? I mean, in 93, his voice was already starting to crap out. And after he got sick, he took precautions, even to this day, to take care of his voice (now that doesn't include things like GOING DIRECTLY BACK TO THE AWAKE TOUR) So if that didn't happen, could he possibly have made detrimental effects to his voice earlier and go the way of Sabastian Bach? And man, does Bach look like crap these days...

  • @abstract37 they gave him an ultimatum during the sdoit tour that if he didnt take care of his voice he would be out of the band.

  • @VerdiKtagrad

actually it was in the Scenes one, he took lessons after that and changed his way of singing when recording six degrees

  • @joshuanaconda how is that possible if this is from 1994 its awake

  • @Zakariah1971 Firstly, I like how you completely trample over the Derek Sherinan "era". Secondly, ain't sold squat? SFaM is of Dream Theater's greatest-selling albums. SDoIT achieved "Gold" status in Europe; it actually worries me that nobody ever realizes that. :-\ Anyway! ToT achieved "Platinum" status in Japan. I could go on, quite frankly. So, I shall say this, please, before you troll on videos--which is pathetic in its own right--please, conduct some research.

  • That might be but the key levels for the live show are waaaaaaay higher than normal, and all this sounds great since they are Moore parts!

IAW went gold in the states, platinum in japan... Awake went platinum in Japland real quick and since Moore breached contract and split in'94 the Shitty Rudess era ain't sold squat!!

  • @Zakariah1971 the key level is high because I increased the volume.

  • @Aisse ah i lold at this man fukin funny know it all people both amazing keyboard players though maybe with that comment i can avoid world war 3 on you tube lol

  • @Aisse The camera is also on Jordan's side of the stage.

  • @Aisse you have a multitrack recording? If so, du you still have it?

  • "if you can help us out in the chorus section please doooo-uh"

  • SINCE WHEN DOES MYUNG HEADBANG???

  • 90s LaBrie is my fuckin hero! he was ( and still is) amazing

  • Wow I didn't knew that JR actually played with them live just for a night in '94. Learning something new everyday!

  • gotta love labrie's performance

  • la brie forgetting his words :( and rudess needs to turn the volume down.either that or petrucci needs to turn it up

  • @lengman2112 it might just be where the camera was in the audience

  • "You signed up to be an astronaut, go to mars." ...that's actually pretty poniant

  • I'didn't know jordan played with them before 1998/1999 WOW

  • Jordan Ruddess is freakin BEAST in this video 10 thumbs up... Labrie sounds better here than in a lot of the live videos Ive seen on youtube great voice.

  • hehe I never knew portnoy used a mapex... anyone knows what kit is it?

  • Whoa, this is when Myung was still a headbangin' energetic guy.

Then he became a god, realized the futility in human emotion and stopped projecting any sort of human qualities outwards.

  • @ai4281 He somehow got lowered in the mix too. I like how high in the mix he is here!

  • Damn, they are proud of Jordan at this show. He is so high in the mix its unbelievable.

  • @aligatorsandwitch72 by in the mix you mean how much his playing is in the spotlight? whereas myung is usually low in the mix?

  • @aligatorsandwitch72

They wanted to Kevin Moore notice his replacement!!!!!!!

  • check 3:44 , so much feeling in the voice... go DT

  • @stexnookie thats my favorite line aswell.

  • Jordan's having too much fun lol, he's always smiling. I bet he was sight reading that solo, but he can do anything, replicating KM's solos is just a stroll in the park for him

  • BEST SHOW SINCE KM ERA

  • I love when you can actually HEAR the keyboard... when I saw DT live, I couldn't hear a single note on the keyboard...

  • Cara essa musica é uma das melhores do DT

  • He sounds good, it's definatly before the food poisioning incident

  • Those keys are f'in loud! but he's JR he can do anything he feels like

  • Lmao at JLB's comment on Moore @ the start

  • @ flyingfishpie - Actually, I think this might be before the vocal incident. He did sound a little weak at some points (mostly the much higher stuff), but it would have been much more noticeable if he did destroy his voice before this show.

  • On December 29, 1994, while vacationing in Cuba, LaBrie was stricken with a severe case of food poisoning from contaminated shrimp and while vomiting, he ruptured his vocal cords. He saw three throat specialists who all said there was nothing they could do except have him rest his voice as much as possible.

I JUST realized this; This was before so yea you're right. He wasn't THAT bad. If you want something that sounds the same just listen to the recording, its just as good.

  • According to Wikipedia, this was before LaBrie's food poisoning incident. Of course, take Wikipedia with a grain of salt...

  • Wow.. he did surprisingly well for his first show with DT.

  • @jamesteek03 I wouldn't expect anything else from God.

  • @7SethMurrant7 HAHAHA. Very good point.

  • @jamesteek03 thats cause he is THE LORD OF KEYBOARDS!!!

  • And he looks like he's really enjoying himself too.

  • BTW - This is after the vocal incident right?

    LaBrie sounds weak

  • Cool!

I was born on 9/9/1994, at night!

  • "This was the only show with Jordan Rudess on keyboards. Jordan could not fully commit to DT, so they continued looking for another keyboardist."

Uhh, false? Jordan is DT's full-time keyboardist.

  • Not in 1994 he wasn't. lmao. He joined the band around 1999

  • Uhhh...this is after Kevin Moore left, and they were looking for his replacement. So this is Jordan filling in but as the info says, he couldn't fully commit at that point so then they got Derek. THEN, a couple years down the road, after the LTE sessions, they asked Jordan to join again and fired Derek. Don't give the guy shit, his facts are right.

  • @applezballz ''This was the only show with Jordan Rudess on keyboards. ''

  • i dunno dude, the "at that time" was kind of implied.

  • @Gumbo550 Kevin Moore and Derek Sherinian were before him ;o

  • @Gumbo550

No, in 1994 DT and Dixie Dreggs offered Rudess keyboard roles but Rudess chose Dreggs as he felt that he would have to put in too much commitment to DT while supporting his then young family.

In 1999 after the Liquid Tension Experiment they convinced Jordan to join and they keyboardist they had from around 1994 til 1999 (Derek Sherinian) got fired.

So he did reject DT in 1994 but he played that night.

  • 4:55 one of my favorite riffs ever

  • LAZERSS!!! hahaha

  • Look at Jordan during the solo. He's really having a good time! :D

  • 'Life is no more than sharing LOLÓ...!!!'!?!?!? W00T? LA BICHA doidão? LOL!!!

  • good old time for rudess, when he had hair!

  • I have so much respect with Jordan Rudess he's a great keyboard player but there are a lot of things I prefer with Moore.

  • @shiwa048

I love all Jordan's lead's but I think Kevin Moore was better for background keyboard. Also he wrote damn good lyrics

  • Like the melodies and lyrics he brought. I don't think Images Words would be the amazing album it is without him. But Jordan is as amazing if not more in his own way!

  • I cant believe ppl have negatived you on that comment! Kev is a god! By far my all time fav DT keyboardist.

  • The guitar is really quiet.....Ruddess is awesome though.

  • Wholly frigg, just listened to the solo, he nailed Kevin's solo!

  • @alienspent that's cause hes good

  • Jordan is the man!!! Very impressed, this is before Darrek too I take it.

  • OMFG the effect on Jordan Rudess' keyboard is phenomenal! Anyone know what the effect is?

  • Howdy, I dont know bugger all about keyboard effects but its got a slow flanger on it, and he "bends" the notes up and down with his left hand via a toggle that sits just left of the bottom key. Last week I saw them play in New Zealand for the 1st time; James sounded awesome, almost better than ever, the rest of the band were typically incredible! :)

  • Liquid T Lead from Kurzweil K series :)

  • Myung is a bad ass :)

  • portnoy on mapex :O

  • the fuck man....why is rudesses keyboard so damn loud....lmao

  • he has hair

  • wow! amaizing! the solo at the end was spot on

  • one of the best keyboard solo i know

  • Woot I totally forgot James used to sing the 1st verse live back then...GG :D

  • Two words. TIMELESS MUSIC

  • Hey I've heard this live 2 days ago!! IT was awesome!! ^^ just like all the other songs :P

  • LABRIE!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My gawd labri sounds amazing in this video.. it's one of the only times i've heard him sing live before the infamous Honeymoon incident..

  • well, this was before the whole food poisoning incident. an Labrie's voice never sounded the same after that really in my opinion. but he's still kickass. I like his voice

  • i know.... that's exactly what i was talking about...?

  • sorry. I'm kinda slow sometimes:p

  • cool, but guitar is too low and keys are too high

  • well it's kind of a bootleg so you can't get perfect mix ;)

  • "Special guest" Jordan Rudess is now "Permanent member" of DT now :0)

  • you must be kidding me!! REALY >.> DUH!!! this is 1994 you muppets!

  • Jordan was probably sightreading this whole show lmao.

  • What happened to Kevin I still don't know.

  • Kevin's got his own band, "Chroma Key" and also formed a side projec: "O.S.I". I think he lived in Costa Rica for a while and currently, I believe he's in Turkey doing soundtrack production & also producing several artists in that country...He played with "Fates Warning" a couple of times too...

  • He's been doing Chroma Key and OSI, OSI being more recent.

  • qui erano proprio i tempi d'oro dei dt!!

  • davvero, va come si agita myung XD

  • yeh i like this ^^

but he has definitely polished his sound and playing in many parts

  • Lol, I love how the video ends right as LaBrie comes back on.

  • Wow.. I had NO idea that Jordan had played with them before joining the band... Kewl!

  • Rudess played with Dixie Dregs.Prog Rock I think.I remember a violinist there too.

  • synths of doom!

  • I love that guitar Petrucci is using!

Painted by Michael Angelo himself. Not thatguitar noob, the one that painted the ceilings.

    Petrucci Psycho excercises anyone? XD

  • world domination mode! lol, i FREAKIN love dream theater!

  • The guy who painted jesus on a cealing! I've seen the psycho exercises so many times and I still laugh my ass off!! xD

  • wow, I just love that break they do just when starting the song, that's really cool

  • petrucci have a "normal size" in this video :)

  • This is Really Really Really old, look how different they all look. I love take the time, its soo epic. Good performance JR

  • this is awesome

and the quality is great for a bootleg

  • Fuck me !.... He plays the solo right !

  • Jordan looks soo happy at 5:40 when he starts the key solo

he must have been soo happy that he is playing rocking music instead of the shitty sideman keyboardist jobs he was getting before

  • Labrie sounds great!

  • Yeah... this was only a few months before the food poisoning thing... shame. He's still a great singer, but he's never been the same since.

  • LaBrie is back! Have you seen the clips from Sweden Rock 2009 with DT. His voice is AMAZING!

  • so, this was before derek?

  • yep

  • "I'm sure most of you heard the Kevin Moore thing, he signed up as an astronaut to go to mars."

    lmao

  • jardan rudess is reel good
