I remember back in 1980-81 getting to watch Deen in his garage and in a local Salem Oregon band. Back then he was Neil Peart Jr. and f*cking fantastic but since then he has truly gone his own way. Great work Deen!
HOLY CRAP!!!! DEEN RULES!!!!! I love the cymbal chokes on a layer of 24th double bass notes. Brilliant. He has such a fantastic technique thats unique to him.
the whole snare thing with the cross sticking and rim shots is fucking pure fucking genius. and he's currently playing for my favourite band, journey, and he's a fucking awesome singer too.
went to scope out a bar where im playing in a few days, saw a guy i knew, he had heads that had been used by this guy the night before, gave 'em to me....EPIC SAUCE.
My childhood idol: Deen Castronovo, I could not stop watching this whole drum video as a child, Deen was funny as hell on this video also amazing with incredible drumming, this is my favorite drum solo ever ! Where are you Deen nowadays ? Someone post some up to date Deen Castronovo drum video, please. Thanx.
ke grande deen castronovo ,esto solo se puede esperar de un super bateria ,dela banda bad english, simplemente genial ,para akellosk creen k hay otros buenos ,con esta demostracion deen te dejara atonito ....yeahh

@johnpie2 he was the Drummer for JOURNEY. One of the biggest bands of all time. Neal Schon only got the best people for the band, and Castronovo was the best that wasn't already in a band. Neal Peart of Rush is the best drummer of all time, though.
travis barker does have talent. that goes without saying. is he the best? probably not. the man you are comparing him to has a great deal more experience and mileage than travis does. that's all. if you asked them both, deen and travis would probably both tell you the same thing.
@RockitsWay I'll give you Neal Peart. As for any of the Kiss drummers, please they can't hold his sticks. I don't even think they can play what he's playing right here. Which isn't that tough.
Eric Carr, Tommy Lee, Phil Rudd, and especially the idiot Travis Baker would be blessed to take lessons from Deen. I respect Eric, Tommy and Phil and have loved their bands but come on....that statment was made by someone who either is not or dreams of being a musician. Spend the time boy, and not in magazines, then you will some day see the difference between fads and artists.
Deen Castronovo is the reason I play drums, he is the biggest inspiration I could ever have and I'm like 14 haha. I would do anything to meet this guy in personn and I hope journey keeps rockin:)!
@idrum4jrny well, not to make you envious but i'm best-friends with his (step) nephew and him and I both play drums and i get to play the Journey drum set (the original of the two that were ever made) every week lol... Deen is a pretty cool guy though!
Good drummer in the 80's? you think he lost his stuff or something? I'll tell him you said that. Deen is not only one of the thee greatest drummers of our time but who else can sing a whole Journey set just like if not better than Steve Perry while drumming? Check out his son's band Still Dead. I played with his son when he was 11 and he would smoke any of you in his whitey tighties. I love you Ta.
Come on lame asses with this hes not as good as shit??dean is fuckin awsom! In his own way !!! he fucken blew me away with marty and jasons work all thoes years ago!

I used to have this video. It was AWESOME!!! I swear it looked like he was on something. Especially when he was tilting his head from side to side. Explaining his patterns. LMAO!!! I think he was getting high on an adrenaline rush from being in a video.
You really think Aynsley Dunbar is better? Sure, Aynsley is a legend, but Deen is better than him. Of course, Steve Smith still reigns supreme, but Deen is NOT the least talented of the 3.
In my opinion Ansley is much better than Deen. From this video it really looks like Deen relies way too much on double bass. Ansley is a much more versatile drummer. Unless you have a video of Deen playing Jazz or Fusion

Travis is a great drummer, don't be superficial. He is underrated because he played with Blink 182. The comparison between them is impossible, two different styles
Correction: He's overrated. Too many Blink 182 fans, (in which there are also too many) think that Travis Barker is the best drummer in the world. On the other hand, he's pretty technical, but they fail to realize that there are far more better drummers in the world.

Yep, I know his brother Dave, Deen is from my homey town. Has a 'stache and goatee, Dave doesn't but you can see resemblance, SO Italian! He really is amazing isn't he. And sorry Dave, you can't play I've seen you try hun lol
He's oot most influencial drummers yet so underrated. The opening fills he used in "saturation point" are now used a lot by Portnoy like his. The patterns around 4:00 are B.Jarzombek's favorite during his solo. All those great drummers today or even his time use his techs. Deen is the man!
I was obsessed with his playing back in the 80's when he was doing the stuff with Friedman, MacAlpine, etc. and I couldn't believe it when he surfaced with Bad English and then Journey. yes he plays well!! far to be my favorite one, but he really kicks some butzzz !!!
he got some speed rush perfectly, but I really think he lacks in his bass drum ... when he is doing same thing with hand than feet is the worst, but he's far to be non skilld !! :P
Without a doubt,Deen is the BIZZZZ.Only foun out last month that he plays most of the drumming on Tony Macalpine's Maximum Security album which I learned to play along with in the 80's.Awesome Album-Awesome Drummer.Say no more.....

I used to go Deen Play in a local band in Las Vegas way back in the very early 80's.
The band was called The Enemy.
They covered Rush tunes and did original compositions,
They had to change their name to Moving Pictures for legal reasons.
They broke up shortly after that.
We knew back then the guy would go very far in music.

yes he plays well!! far to be my favorite one, but he really kicks some butzzz !!!
he got some speed rush perfectly, but I really think he lacks in his bass drum ... when he is doing same thing with hand than feet is the worst, but he's far to be non skilld !! :P

Deen Castronovo, Alex Van Halen, and Jojo Mayer are the best drummers out there. I think those three could school anybody.
