This is from 1978 - When my brother was four or five (mid-1990's) we had a video of Sesame Street songs which had a lyrics booklet in it and that had a year of copyright for each song
i love the count. if i was a sesamestreet-puppet, i married him. he's got a castle, wears elegant clothes and is easily to keep him busy. i'd just had to give him something to count.
I remember we used to have this on a record, and my dad copied it to tape for me. I used to listen this all the time, until the tape finally burned out.
I'm not conscious of having seen this when I was young. But I was familiar with the title before I heard the song itself. It seemed so typical and bland I figured the song would be pretty boring. Boy was I ever wrong! This is a real toe tapper.
I want a jukebox like that! This is one of my all-time favorite Sesame Street songs. I seem to remember making a cassette recording of it 25 years ago, but I'm glad to see the video now. It's interesting how Sesame Street spoofed a lot of musical styles, such as this doo-wop thing. Does anyone have the full clip where you see the Count putting a coin in the jukebox?
God!! I L-O-V-E the Count. He is simply the best. I watched Sesame Street somewhat recently and many of the old characters are gone. It seems reeeally dumbed down and "kid"-oriented. I used to love that Sesame Street used to be hip and have in jokes for Adults. Too bad - huh? Jim Henson, you are truly missed.
To me, Sesame Street died when Tickle Me Elmo made Elmo--the little red menace, as Oscar called him--the focus of the show and ever since, Stepford "must be politically correct and kid-friendly" Street took Sesame's place.
Thank you for posting this! Nine is my favorite number and I was glad when I saw this on Sesame Street when they did a song for number nine other than that one starring the "Number 9 Cutie".
Being the ever noticable kids me and my sisters were, we always pointed out the flub in this when the number 5 stays lit a second longer than the others (time index 1:49)

Is it me or are the Oinker Sisters doing the background "doo wah" vocals, given 1:28-1:29 & 1:34-1:35?

@TherealRNO Richard Hunt and Chris Cerf are doing the voices. The editing was done in fast speed.

I love this! It has a very fifties feel to it. I bet a doo wop group could do a good cover of this.

Jim Henson was good as count. Who does him today I wonder.
giantpanda371 4 years ago
It wasn't Henson who did the Count; it was Jerry Nelson.
