  • This is from 1978 - When my brother was four or five (mid-1990's) we had a video of Sesame Street songs which had a lyrics booklet in it and that had a year of copyright for each song

  • Where is the one where the Count sings with Ernie?

    The song goes:

" Down and Down and Down

    Up, Up and Down again

Up, Up and Down and Down and Down

    and Uuuuup.... aaaagain,,,!

  • Chris Cerf as count

    Richard hunt juke box machine.

  • Does anyone have the cartoon song "Dinner For Nine"? It featured on an episode I saw years and years ago.

  • i just realized how fun everything that relates to kids is when you're baked as fuck.

  • That song used to scare the livin shit outta me for some reason

  • oh man...this brings back memories...I used to have this on a cassette when I was a kid :)

  • The fact that he's fine with the sun just shows how strong of a vampire he is.

  • my grandpa tells me like every day how when i was little i would wake up in the middle of the night and beg him to put this song on,lol

  • Is it me or are the Oinker Sisters doing the background "doo wah" vocals, given 1:28-1:29 & 1:34-1:35?

  • @TherealRNO Richard Hunt and Chris Cerf are doing the voices. The editing was done in fast speed.

  • The count rocks!

  • totally grouse..(awesome..lol)

  • i love the count. if i was a sesamestreet-puppet, i married him. he's got a castle, wears elegant clothes and is easily to keep him busy. i'd just had to give him something to count.

  • Or something to cunt?

  • Helena: He's spoken for by his TWO Countes', Von Dahling and Von Backwards.

  • This is hysterical. Such a great piece of history....

  • I love this! It has a very fifties feel to it. I bet a doo wop group could do a good cover of this.

  • I remember we used to have this on a record, and my dad copied it to tape for me. I used to listen this all the time, until the tape finally burned out.

  • how about this..fuck off

  • A thing of beauty! -- As a modern day creepazoid, I can clearly trace my twisting as far back as Count Von Count. RIP

  • I'm not conscious of having seen this when I was young. But I was familiar with the title before I heard the song itself. It seemed so typical and bland I figured the song would be pretty boring. Boy was I ever wrong! This is a real toe tapper.

  • Teaching children irony since 1969

  • MAKE THE SUN SHINE FOR ME????

    you're supposed to be a vampire!!!!!!lol

  • oh ok

  • Jim Henson was good as count. Who does him today I wonder.

  • It wasn't Henson who did the Count; it was Jerry Nelson.

  • Yeah, we got that.

  • I want a jukebox like that! This is one of my all-time favorite Sesame Street songs. I seem to remember making a cassette recording of it 25 years ago, but I'm glad to see the video now. It's interesting how Sesame Street spoofed a lot of musical styles, such as this doo-wop thing. Does anyone have the full clip where you see the Count putting a coin in the jukebox?

  • I wish someone would post the sketch where The Count's bats all go on strike. That one's the best!

  • There's already two copy's of that sketch on Youtube.

  • OMG i love this song so much! count was so my favourate one lol xxxxx yay count rules xxxxx

  • So do I.

  • This should have been included on the Old School Volume 2 DVD set.

  • God!! I L-O-V-E the Count. He is simply the best. I watched Sesame Street somewhat recently and many of the old characters are gone. It seems reeeally dumbed down and "kid"-oriented. I used to love that Sesame Street used to be hip and have in jokes for Adults. Too bad - huh? Jim Henson, you are truly missed.

  • To me, Sesame Street died when Tickle Me Elmo made Elmo--the little red menace, as Oscar called him--the focus of the show and ever since, Stepford "must be politically correct and kid-friendly" Street took Sesame's place.

  • I love The Count too, and he's one of my favorite characters as well.

  • =^^= yay. I remember this song from when i was realy little!!! : D i feel 5 yrs old again!

  • Oh, one of my favorite Count songs! (The other is "Eight Beautiful Notes.")

And I just read in the comments that what I called the "Nine Machine" is a jukebox. Never knew!

  • As a kid, the panels below the numbers reminded me of toast. It still does today.

  • Toast?

  • Kind of has a 1950's doo wop kind of sound, doesn't it?

  • Transylvanian doo-wop...

    It boggles...in a good way. :D

  • Yes indeed.

  • Thank you for posting this! Nine is my favorite number and I was glad when I saw this on Sesame Street when they did a song for number nine other than that one starring the "Number 9 Cutie".

  • Thank you for these posts and keep up the good work. This is one of my favorite SS songs also, and I never thought I'd hear it again.

  • what was the deal for him going behind the jukebox, was that some sort of extra surprise, like maybe he electricuted and came back to life

  • Being the ever noticable kids me and my sisters were, we always pointed out the flub in this when the number 5 stays lit a second longer than the others (time index 1:49)

  • I used to point that out too!!! That was so funny!

  • mine too. I love this place, some of you have (despite the ones that creep me out even still) the best pieces from SS past. thank you.

  • This is my favorite SS song of all time!!

  • Mine too.
