"I was full with fiery wonder, you wore Audrey Hepburn pearls. You were the only one who understood me then and the only one who will." Amazing band, amazing song, amazing album.
@getthefuckofflol Well, I've never been in your position, I started liking these guys from "Sink or Swim" just after I felt "broken" so I've only ever liked these guys after a broken heart, and they helped "seal" the wound, but then there was a girl who repaired it, then broke it again :(... I can't trust anyone anymore.
thanks, sorry 4 accusing you and people who don't have broken hearts of not knowing what it feels like or understanding.
@Chrazzari as one who has been in your position, I can say I know exactly how you feel. In my case, it was time for old friends to rally round - in this case, that old friend was my Leonard Cohen CD. I started listening to Cohen @ the age of 14, but only learned what it meant when I hit 17. If nothing else, if felt good to know that someone else knew how I felt. Music is a very cathartic medium - you form a very personal bond with it. I certainly did.
@starstriker97 Wow, bet you feel real smart for noticing that. That was the point. Do you really think they'd use all that and hope people didn't notice or something?
Hi folks why compare bands? I am a gig Springsteen fan but I also love these guys, Against Me, Alkaline Trio and many others. Just enjoy the music for what it is....
Bruce Springsteens influence is also obvious by only looking at the title Meet Me By The River's Edge --> meet me on the darkness of the edge of town 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' and 'The River'.
What about "meeting across the river" from born to run album. =P
Yes they deffinately have some bruce influences in lyrics. but the music you can't compare. I really don't like this gaslight band and his voice is annoying(unlike bruce). e-street band would blow them off the stage
the gaslight anthem the best insparation for music lovers of this genre we thought this kind of music was dead and replaced by hip hop, pop, rap but it aint thats why the gaslight anthem are the best theses guys deserves to be on top of the charts keep leading them brian i an waiting for the day these guys are truly spotted and respected for there talent.

Dont call me dipshit, or idiot OK. Im offering an opinion. If i didnt understand the bollocks you were talking its your own fault for getting things mixed up. You meant this, you meant that blah blah blah. Top and bottom of it is they sound like springsteen, they are teyring to sound like springsteen, they wound take it is a complement to sound like springsteen.
theyre not trying to sound like springsteen, jesus. theyre influenced by a lot more than the obvious. i suppose you cant see that, though. mate, let it go, ur just showing urself up

An excellent band, im massively impressed by them regardless of any similarities they may or may not have to any other artists.
c'mon, dude... let it go.. its beyond ridiculous. i sound harsh, but no one cares (apart from you, maybe.) look at yourself; comment removed by author, comment removed by author, comment removed by author, -2, -2, -2. unbelievable...
but i wasnt talking about the 'last thing you said' i was talking about everything you've said.. i was just asking if you were done. Peace, Love and Dope, Bitches!
@ThisIsLukePi: I said they were influenced by him, idiot! I didn't say they sounded nothing like Bruce, i said I want Gaslight to be their own band, and kept away from Bruce. Jeeezus, the world is on its arse! Start to UNDERSTAND what i type dipshit.
Actually come to think of it, how can you listen to this song without realising its got springsteen written all over it...
The opening rythmn guitar sounds like everything off born in the usa, and then the first line says "no surrender my bobby jean" which is two springsteen song titles into one, "no retreat, no surreneder" and "Bobby Jean"
Can we stop associating these with Bruce? I know they were obviously influenced by him, but they are their own band, with an unbelievably unique sound. I'm getting sick of EVERY comment on EVERY Gaslight vid being about 'Oh, Yeah, i love bruce, these are just like him' no they're not. Let them be the awesome band they are.
To be fair I love this band for everything thy are, stand for, sound like, want to be , refuse to be. I FUCKING LOVE THEM. And yet im the first to admit they are basically a modern E Street band, thing is thats the biggest complement i can pay them. The album 'the 59 sound' is a mish mash of bruce springsteen songs from over the years, and thats why i love them...
Unless you are a big springsteen fan you wont get all the references they make to springsteen songs during the album 9 sound. Honestly its a unbelievable hw much is borrowed/adapted from springsteen. And yet that isnt a put down, if anything i take my hat off to them, after all the e-street band are an incredible band...
You dont knw when to quit, listen, i DO get the references. And yes i DO know how much is adapted, but honestly, they ARE their own band, and i'm not saying its a put-down, you're just mislabeling them, i would say anyway.

Listen to Bruce Springsteen with Tom Morello (Guitarist from rage Against The Machine) Song is called "The Ghost Of Tom Joad"..... Amazing piece of music!!!
Listen to the Born to Run album and Darkness on the Edge of town. I kid you not.. It will change your life. Lead singer of Gaslight Anthem said the same thing
well, i was on this holiday in italy and because of some reason my mp3 crashed the night before, and because i didn't have much time left the only cd i could put on it again was this one,
my holiday was really good, and this band to can't wait to see them at Pinkpop,
On queensday (birthday of the queen) i was sitting totally drunk in the car next to my m8 who was driving and i heard 3 songs of GA on the radio. First was Old White Lincoln. From the moment i heard it i fell in love with that song. Second was 'we came to dance' and third 'the 59 sound'. When i came home i ran upstairs, thinking for 20 minutes what the bands name was. thanks for the upload, huge Springsteen fan, and well had to check these out if even the boss likes him........and it is incredible, good band, and love to hear the bruce references!
I know they've been likened to Springsteen and I can often see why. The words of this song is more Springsteen than the Boss himself.

The Springsteen influence is sort of obvious if you know older Boss tracks...like "No Surrender" and "No Surrender"...both from "Born in the USA"
Then there is the whole washing the sins, like in "Racing in the Streets"...done at the edge of "The River"
It sounds like a shout out to Boss songs couched in a nice little rock ditty.
"No retreat, baby, no surrender" has become "no retreat, no regrets..."
