  • Great stuff, i'm about halfway done but I hit a little road block

at 45 seconds (i'm a beginner) you say the D-chord is hitting the 2nd and 4th strings. then at 3:16 your D-chord looks like strings 6 and i can't tell what else

  • thank you sir!

  • you hide your face, but i know you are asian

  • @MGardi10 what gave it away? it probably wasnt the fact that his username is mrchenmusic hahaha

  • thx fr the lesson appreciate it!!

  • great lesson, but tune your guitar man

  • Hey! This was really good. You should make more of these. For some people that are beginners, you may be too fast, but for intermediate players, your pace is pretty good. Good work!

  • hey man great job, if you capo the 3rd fret it will sound a lot more like John Mayer's version

  • super merci from france

  • LEFTY!!!!!

  • do u have like tabs sheets? ur amazing by the way :)

  • dude at 3:00 you don't really explain the step with the 4 3 2 3 4...in fact you pick more strings than that

  • we should reproduce ;]

  • Chen I love you. Best teacher I ever had.

  • Great tutorial man!! keep it up! :)

  • Thank you so much, this was a really easy tutorial and im a beginner aswell :)

  • Possibly one of the best tutorials i've seen :)

I have only been playing for 3 weeks now and this made everything so clear and easy to learn.

    Thanks heaps :)

  • Amazing tutorial, thanks a bunch!

  • I really enjoyed your clip due to that simple thing you did in the beginning - you Started playing the song and Then explained how to play it. Some guitarrists can learn only by watch the beginning, and I think you did it verry well!

  • Awsome video thanks!!

  • you can teach. a bit fast . ( not clear )

  • the g chord is =the 6th string ,3th string and 4th string.

  • I cant understand anything you are doing after the intro :(

  • nice, thx

  • the most accurate shit on youtube..you nailed it dude..so did I.. :D

  • Have you got a tab or something? :)

  • What strings are you pulling at 5:41 ?

  • you know, you don't teach so clearly. :/

  • I understand what you do with the G chord but what is the plucking patern? is it 6 string 4th string 3th string?

  • @shenjiwarrior john strums 6th 4th 3rd and moves on but he fills in the silence there is in concert after g chord

  • brilliant lesson

  • What strings are u plocking after 5:50 ?

  • awesome Tutorial, keep 'em coming!

  • i cant bar for shit

  • i dont get what ur doing on 2:05??

  • thank you so much I know how to play it now

  • thanks man helped ALOT

  • hey awesome vid .........ive been lukin so long fr a tuto without the capo, u vere the ans 2 my prayers,thnx.......btw ,ven u r doin the g chord wat r the strings u r plucking?

  • Thanks buddy u helped heaps!!

  • Wicked lesson Mr Chen... The closest one I've found so far.

  • Thankyou! This is a great lesson, and since there are no accurate tabs online(as far as i know...) it was a great help.

  • this version is very good, but you're very bad at explain it.sorry for the sincerity!

  • so this is the intro part..what is the idea for the rest of the song? do you just take out the little variations, or do you play with a pic?

    love the video though, thanks

  • cant do hamerin on classical guitar

  • @h2hAmir well maybe if you hammer really hard ;)

  • awesome. probably best tutorial on youtube. thank you :D

  • What key is this song in?

  • @jayrad2010 eadgbe

  • Hey I love the video one little thing though. I don't play my 'a' as a barre chord so is there an easier way to hammer on 3 and 4 because I find that one part really hard.

  • @BeccaMorris27 i got the same problem, did you find a way to play it properly? i'd like to hear from you, thanks

  • @BartStrike The only way i've figured how to play it without the barre is to only hammer on 3 it's still kinda weird but sounds fine and fits well with everything. Hope it helped :)

  • @BeccaMorris27 okay thanks i'll try that. btw with the capo on 3 the frets are smaller, that makes it easier to do as the guy from the vid (with the barre and the hammer)

  • @BeccaMorris27 I got it fixed. with capo on 3rd fret and some practice it went well. just place your barre very close to the edge of the fret. that should give you enough movement freedom in finger 3 and 4 to hammer... it's very hard in the beginning but after a couple of tries you make great progress.

a tab version of the song is on ultimate-guitar(.)com look for john mayer freefallin and choose tab ver 2

    good luck with it ;-)

  • @BartStrike yeah i've been trying it and it's getting better

    Thanks for your help :)

  • oh thanks. ;)

  • thnx really helped

  • wow u r really good!

  • Hi MrChen, you are amazing!! I agree with all the other comments that say you really have a talent for explaining in a calm and pleasant manner and you seem to know exactly what an unexperienced player needs to see explained (except maybe for the G chord, that's where we beginners gave ourselves away haha). Seriously I don't think you realise how great this video is! Thanks a lot. Greetings from Holland!

    PS You don't sing?

  • awesome, thanks a lot man, now i can play this awesome song :D youve got my gratitude

  • THANKS MAN!!!!

    This really helped me out!!!

  • Great tutorlial! i looked hard in the beginning but you made it easy, thanks!

  • @frispel- it's all finger picked...

You're tutorial is FANTASTIC, this is the first song I've learned on guitar and you made it super fun.. I hope you make more videos.. Thanks for the help!!!!!

  • Thanks. After trying other tuturials on the web i found that they either talk to much or the thing is wrong, but then i found yours and it is perfect, so once again Thanks.

  • I cant find out how to pick the vers... how do you pick the strings ? help please i love this song!

  • Tx! This is the best tutorial ever!

  • How does that G happen at 3:14 ?What strings do you pluck? Awesome video btw dude. A big thanks

  • Make a Why Georgia tutorial and neon one, and your god.

  • me and you both have that guitar

  • i cant see what you are doing at 2.57!!! i realy wants to learn the song. can someone please help me..

  • @Michao1231

You can just use a regular g major chord,

I just use my ring finger on the 6th string,

3rd fret because the rest of the notes i picked

are open strings. Hope this helps.

  • me neider

  • @Michao1231 ring finger 3 fret 6th string with an open 4 sting and open 2 sting

  • @Michao1231 is actually a G chord

  • he isnt a lefty as you noticed its a mirror lol

  • Go the lefty!!!! Me too... Good tute mate.

  • could you post the tabs? :)

  • Excellent tutorial, MrChenMusic, nicely explained at a good pace. Very helpful, and I think even your voice is pleasant to listen to. You should consider doing more tutorials. Loved it!

  • left handed!! me too

  • best one I've seen so far. (: thanks

  • Thx bro hot it

  • thanks sooo much! this was really helpful :)

  • at 3:00 minutes hes playing the 6th E string 3rd fret, D string and B string open

  • I see the video a lot of times, for people who have the same doubt, he just uses the johny cash finger in the 6 stringer, 3rd bar and plays 6, 2,3, 4 stringers at the same time in the G chord at 3:00

  • YEAH GREATt! you're great! this is the best tutorial for this version of the song that i've seen this far! definitely the more accurate and similar to the actual John version! thak you soo much, i was searching for a video like this for ages!

  • I also didn't understand the G chord at 3:00

  • whatzz up mr chen.

  • how do you do tha G chord at 3:00 ?

  • You can do a regular G chord, but I just pressed down on the 3rd fret on the sixth strings because all the other notes played were open strings.

  • hey Mr Chen, thank you very much for the excellent tutorial! i am finally able to play this song(:

  • guess who. go ahead

  • Im also left handed but I play right handed.

  • left handed!!!! me too...lol

  • Awesome tutorial Mr. Chen! Thank you very much for your detailed progression of this wonderful song!

  • hey, thanks for the vid..its awesome

jus tat i'm a lefty too and i've jus started playing for 6 months..using a right-handed guitar..although it didn feel quite right..u think it makes a difference?

  • I am actually a righty and I recorded it as a mirror image so it is easier to imitate. There are advantages of playing righty as there are more choices when you want to buy a new guitar, but it really is up to your comfort level. I have seen many lefties play right handed.

  • hey great lesson but what strings are you plucking when you play the G chord?

  • Excellent tutorial. Can you do more please? Easy to follow a lefty!!

    thanks

  • might i say this is a brilliant brilliant tutorial for this song. i'd greatly appreciate if anyone would clarify one part though. when mr chen does his g-chord, he's plucking strings 6, 4, 3, 2 with only the 6th string fretted at the 3rd fret correct?

    thanks in advance

  • Yes, I try to be economical with my fingering, so since I am not playing the other strings, there is no real need to do the full G chord.

I am glad this is helpful.

  • this is an amazing tuitorial (:

but at about 4.30-39 Im not too sure what finger positons

  • great job! helped a lot

  • That a Martin guitar?

  • Yes,

    000-cxe

  • easy way to learn, recommended for sure. Nice work

  • Thanks so much man best tutorial on here for sure

  • hi... its a nice tutorial, but im much of a newbie to understand it straightaway. plus i dont speak english fluently.

so if any of u guys can help me, id be thankful. on 1:35, his first finger is holding what chords? just the A or the D? or maybe the A/D, G, B?

tks for the tuto and the help :D

  • It is just an A chord ...

    good luck =)

  • what strings are you fingers on for the a chord you play?

    thanks

  • Really well done, that is the cleanest teaching I've seen yet! Looking forward to more!

  • whoa a lefty? nice

  • you are right on! this is the most accurate i have seen by far!

  • You are the man Mr. Chen!
