  • its like music from achorman

  • Holy shit man nice job, how long had you been playing at this time?

I passed my grade 6 a couple of years ago and haven't taken lessons since, but I feel like I want to challenge myself again.

  • @richardblabla Thanks - and about 38 years! ;-)

  • good interpretation but shit music if im honest, its like elevator music. the exam board should come up with something better

  • @TheImpressionable or like customizing cheesy character on wii

  • Do you prefer electronic or acoustic drum kits?

  • anyone know where to find sheet music for this?

  • I've been studying rockschool grade 8... should I try trinity guildhall instead?

  • @cutmeyemaya rockschool grade 8 is around grade 6 trinity, I'd do grade 8 rockschool then trinity if youve been working on rockschool

  • probably the nicest of all trinity and rockschool songs...for me at least!

  • Just me or does the start sound a bit like Can't Stop by the Red Hot Chili Peppers?:L The guitar part I mean :P

  • nice drum & great drummer :-) thx for sharing :-)

  • Doing this for my music exam next year, I find the breakdown solid to time :L, but ive only been learning for 2 weeks :)

  • This is great stuff, man.

  • That's one tight game you got there!

  • I always listen to this..and just hope to do this when i get up to grade 8!! as I said i did Toe tapper and Ringo for my exam and hope i get a good mark! Are you now...basically grade 8+? when i have my drum lesson..im always trying to do the hi-hat bit at the start...but it just does not sound right!

  • im grade 1 at the moment and doing toe tapper and ringo for my exam next week!.....How do you do all the fills? i cant...oh yeh because its grade 8!

  • Good playing! Haha you said "never need to do these parts again!!!" wait until one of your pupils gets to that stage if they havnt allready then you'll have to play them again!!

  • That's just insane... I wish i could play like that, i'm currently working on grade 6, and i thought grade 6 was tough... Nice drumming!

  • brilliant best ive heard sick man!

  • Does anyone know if these grades are similiar to AMEB grading ?

  • love the woodwind for this - makes it sound awesome :)

  • was the part at 2:36 a fill because i swear you used double bass, or is it in the book?

  • It's the bit that says "8 Bar drum breakdown" so you basically solo for 8 bars whilst trying to keep the underlying "theme" of the groove going. At least that's how interpreted it.

  • how much did the whole drumkit cost? O.O

  • Er...a couple of grand for the TD12KV, £150 for the TMC6 and about £400 for the extra cymbals and the three PD8s that are out of shot on the left. I've now also upgraded the pads to a 12" snaare and 12" floor tom too...so quite a lot I suppose ;-)

  • I passed my Grade 2 with 89% and Grade 4 with 90% and moving on to Grade 6 now. This guy in the vid has really helped me with my Grade 4. Thanks.

  • im just learning drums , how long does 1 average grade take>?

  • depends on how committed you are and how hard u wanna work.

  • thks for the thoughtfulness in showing both your feet on the hh & bd & cheers too for the inspiring performance esp the well crafted solo segment....blessings

  • thats great!

for grade 8 in drums do you have to learn a pitched percussion instrument as well?

  • Nope - tuned percussion is a different set of grades entirely.

  • @ozthekeymaster thank god

  • @05mmruan nope, but my drum teahcer told me you have to learn some piano chords for grade 8 drums and stuff like that cuz they dont think u can be a good musician with just one instrument :P

  • Wow thats a tough one! Ok, (and this is just my personal opinion) its not the section A pieces that are the hardest parts of the grades, its the Rudimental Studies. The A (and to an extent the B) sections stand alone you can either play them or you cant e.g if you find 7/8 easy then Odd One Out isnt too hard (the right hand is a bit fiddly in bits). But the Rudimental Studies build on each other .. you HAVE to be able to do all the rudiments up to and including your grade (cont...)

  • with good dexterity, at different tempos and dynamics, with correct accents. At Grade 8 they are all in there and the rudimental study is a PIG (and that isn't just my opinion either!). Also, you need to make sure that your reading ability is up to speed too - you could learn 90% of Odd One Out by ear if you had to, but the other parts (especially the RS) are quite complex to read if you've jumped in at the deep end. Remember also that you'll be expected to sight read at Grade 6 for Grade 8 too.

  • How did you find reading/playing Latino for example? If you're genuinely finding it easy then perhaps the next grade up is for you. IMO I encourage students to at least prepare each of Grades 1,2,3,4,6 & 8 on their way. Even if you never take the exams you still need to work through the parts for these grades on your way. There is a fair jump from 4 to 6 and a big jump to 8 but IMO 5 and 7 are not much easier than 6 & 8 to be worth taking - although you should take a passing look at them (cont)

  • and you MUST sort their rudimental studys out or you'll suffer later. What does your teacher say about all this?

Hope this helps (and take a look at my other Grade 8 videos to see what you think)

  • cheers, i think reading latino was really easy, but as you said its a massive gap between 4 + 6, so ill have a try at all of them and see which 1 best suits me. cheers again!!!

  • hi, just a quick question,

i passed my grade 1 with 92% and am now doing grade 3, but i think its too easy, and looking at this, it seems as though i could do it well enough, because im used to time sig changes as i play to stuff like dream theater. do you think i would have a chance getting through the other songs? cheers

  • i dont know but i wouldnt take the chance.

now im doin grade 2(skipped grade 1) and i dont think i cluld handle that. Anyway if you r confident, im not stopping u. its just that the exams are friggin ex in my country.

  • nice

  • Yep - just need to get a recording when I don't make a horrendous number of mistakes (given up trying to get it 100%!)

  • You doing the rudimental study? Oh man I HATE that piece. lol.

  • Uploaded the Rudimental Study yeasterday - managed to get a version that isn't ridiculously full of mistakes afetr SEVERAL goes at it!

  • I love your solo. Thats one of the hardest parts I find on this piece :) Nice one.

  • Thanks for that - really very much appreciated :-)

As it says, this is still a very rough version but I'm working on it!
