I always listen to this..and just hope to do this when i get up to grade 8!! as I said i did Toe tapper and Ringo for my exam and hope i get a good mark! Are you now...basically grade 8+? when i have my drum lesson..im always trying to do the hi-hat bit at the start...but it just does not sound right!
Good playing! Haha you said "never need to do these parts again!!!" wait until one of your pupils gets to that stage if they havnt allready then you'll have to play them again!!
It's the bit that says "8 Bar drum breakdown" so you basically solo for 8 bars whilst trying to keep the underlying "theme" of the groove going. At least that's how interpreted it.
Er...a couple of grand for the TD12KV, £150 for the TMC6 and about £400 for the extra cymbals and the three PD8s that are out of shot on the left. I've now also upgraded the pads to a 12" snaare and 12" floor tom too...so quite a lot I suppose ;-)
thks for the thoughtfulness in showing both your feet on the hh & bd & cheers too for the inspiring performance esp the well crafted solo segment....blessings
@05mmruan nope, but my drum teahcer told me you have to learn some piano chords for grade 8 drums and stuff like that cuz they dont think u can be a good musician with just one instrument :P
Wow thats a tough one! Ok, (and this is just my personal opinion) its not the section A pieces that are the hardest parts of the grades, its the Rudimental Studies. The A (and to an extent the B) sections stand alone you can either play them or you cant e.g if you find 7/8 easy then Odd One Out isnt too hard (the right hand is a bit fiddly in bits). But the Rudimental Studies build on each other .. you HAVE to be able to do all the rudiments up to and including your grade (cont...)
with good dexterity, at different tempos and dynamics, with correct accents. At Grade 8 they are all in there and the rudimental study is a PIG (and that isn't just my opinion either!). Also, you need to make sure that your reading ability is up to speed too - you could learn 90% of Odd One Out by ear if you had to, but the other parts (especially the RS) are quite complex to read if you've jumped in at the deep end. Remember also that you'll be expected to sight read at Grade 6 for Grade 8 too.
How did you find reading/playing Latino for example? If you're genuinely finding it easy then perhaps the next grade up is for you. IMO I encourage students to at least prepare each of Grades 1,2,3,4,6 & 8 on their way. Even if you never take the exams you still need to work through the parts for these grades on your way. There is a fair jump from 4 to 6 and a big jump to 8 but IMO 5 and 7 are not much easier than 6 & 8 to be worth taking - although you should take a passing look at them (cont)
cheers, i think reading latino was really easy, but as you said its a massive gap between 4 + 6, so ill have a try at all of them and see which 1 best suits me. cheers again!!!
i passed my grade 1 with 92% and am now doing grade 3, but i think its too easy, and looking at this, it seems as though i could do it well enough, because im used to time sig changes as i play to stuff like dream theater. do you think i would have a chance getting through the other songs? cheers
now im doin grade 2(skipped grade 1) and i dont think i cluld handle that. Anyway if you r confident, im not stopping u. its just that the exams are friggin ex in my country.

for grade 8 in drums do you have to learn a pitched percussion instrument as well?
05mmruan 2 years ago
Nope - tuned percussion is a different set of grades entirely.

and you MUST sort their rudimental studys out or you'll suffer later. What does your teacher say about all this?
Hope this helps (and take a look at my other Grade 8 videos to see what you think)
