Gold is good..it used to be salt in Roman times...but the catch... to be worth a set value, something of equal value must be held in reserve as backing. The best thing to do for the national economy is to spend money. Money isn't worth anything unless it is in circulation. If everyone got 100k each, we would all just stockpile it making the recession into stagflation. Also, the stimulus bill funds multiple government projects which the people will benefit from. In a sense, we are getting 100k each, but most of it is going to be through roads, eco and health stuff, ect.

1) DEMOCRATS controlled congress from 2006 onward
2) When congress appropriates money for a specific purpose, the president has NO power to not spend that money.
3) Spending during the Bush admin increased the MOST from 2006 onwards.
It wasnt just Bush, it was the Dems as well.

It isn't that it used to be backed with Gold..It is however that it has to be backed by enough of something of value held in reserve to make it worth something. Gold is good..it used to be salt in Roman times...but the catch... to be worth a set value, something of equal value must be held in reserve as backing. Now we print on whim..with no value set aside and held as insurance. Robert697 is quite correct we ASSUME....ASS out of U and ME.

Umm, yes it did. Our U.S. Dollar used to be backed with Gold and Silver. If you look at a dollar bill from, say, 1940, it would say, "Redeemable in Gold". Nowadays it just says "LEGAL TENDER, FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE" Gold has been replaced with smelly paper :(

Are you trying to quote Keynsian theory as fact? If so it would also be as stimulus packages, not distributed to blue states that can't control their budgets. If the stimulus package was equal to all the money he's distributed to his own causes everyone over the age of 18 wouldve gotten a check for over 100k. You read up on fiscal policy, and while your at it, read up on socialism and communism just to see if they're good or bad for the economy

The best thing to do for the national economy is to spend money. Money isn't worth anything unless it is in circulation. If everyone got 100k each, we would all just stockpile it making the recession into stagflation. Also, the stimulus bill funds multiple government projects which the people will benefit from. In a sense, we are getting 100k each, but most of it is going to be through roads, eco and health stuff, ect.

finally someone with some common sense. There is a great article by Newsweek in 1970 that addresses the fact that they feel that they are going to go into another ice age if people don't do something.
It also reminds me of the overpopulation panic of the 80's and 90's. What has happened as a result? Many countries are in a negative population growth. What has it done to help anything? It has hurt these countries because now they are going to have to deal w/ fewer workers and less revenue.

Actually, it does. Sorry. When there are two sides opposing one another- one wanting to spend (the democrats/liberals) and the other not wanting to spend (the republicans/conservatives), then I don't think that the entire government is corrupt. Think about it; we have a liberal majority in Congress, and now we have a liberal President; and according to the Geithner plan, we won't be seeing too many cuts in spending as long as the liberals are sticking around.

But just bear in mind that regardless of what the Republicans are doing as of now, the Democrats are spending a crapload of money with the Geithner plan. You can say what you want about the Republicans, and perhaps you are right, but the Geithner plan is still foolish spending, regardless of what the Republicans are doing.
