Correction, you do not want to face where the ball is coming from.

You want to face where you setter will be. If you play left side and the opposing right side player is hitting line at you, you do not want to face staight forward at the net, which is "where it is coming from" always have you shoulders and feet set turning the ball into the court.

If you face the hitter you will send the dig back at the hitter which on a line hit at you is going to be away from your partner as he releases.

im libero and all it really takes is learning how to read the hitters. now i am able to read which way the spiker is going to hit it.

What do you do if you are out of line with the ball and don't have enough reaction time to get in line but are still in reach?

you mainly have to work on your reaction time, it just takes practice the more you work on the fundementals the more reaction time you will have and the faster you will get
