  • should've won that season

  • The best from American's Idol: Lakisha Jones, Melinda Doolittle, Angela Martin, Latoya London & many more. Yet luck is not on theirs sides, because it based on votes(the later part) and judges (1st-3rd part). Meanwhile, Fantasia & Jennifer Hudson got more luck than others. So proud of you all & love ur all voices. Loud & Clear....

  • I'm Asian but I really love black singer. Their are really talented when comes to singing compares to others-No offense to others, please.

  • She is my all time favorite

  • Understatement of the century:

Paula: You're good. You're REALLY good.

  • I thought it was real cool what Simon did. I think he saw how much confidence she lacked in herself and he showered her with compliments so she could have that major boost of confidence. This was AMAZING! She had nothing to worry about from the beginning.

  • wOw....for 40 seconds she can blew us away....

    S.P.E.C.I.A.L <333

  • melinda dooHUGEEE.

  • @RandomCoked haha loved it

  • reminds me of the great glasys knight but she is her own self.

  • This girl could sing "Friday" and make it beautiful.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The looks on the judges' faces are priceless!

  • Once she opened her mouth to sing, her whole demeanor changed. She went from "Melinda Doolittle: Stay in the background and sing la de da for others" to "Melinda Doolittle: Give me my damn record deal now cause I could sing the phone book and you would buy it"

  • these were the good days of idol...after last year (minus Crystal) its been down hill. one of my fav auditions ever! love MindyDo!

    ....I would have said "little"

  • @marrydruli lol what a cornball.

  • Melinda would run circles around any female singer in season 11!

  • she is absolutely amazing:X

  • WELL I love Melinda, she's so much fun to be around!! AND she can sang! she has an amazing story that most people would be shocked, she use to be tone deaf then one day she got on stage and blew people away. She is like family to me! She is so caring and just sweet.

  • amazing!

i pissed myself when randy said "i love that song" and then melinda said "ya do?" in a little girl nervous voice

    hahaha

  • I love her voice!! Why would she do backround vocals?? Damn! Make this woman a CD!!!!

  • @Sho0tm3 Melinda's debut CD is called "Coming Back To You". Her sophomore CD will be released later this year (2011).

  • @Sho0tm3 she has one

  • @Sho0tm3 she have to be really good to do professional background vocals. know your part and stay on key at all times. flawless

  • she goes to my church =)

  • one of the worlds best singers ever

  • holy shit O.O god damit!!

  • My favourite audition EVER

  • Sorry, but I liked her more than Jennifer Hudson....

  • huge head.

  • @shippo481 glad you see the important part here

  • @shippo481 so unnecessary

  • Melinda was one of my favorites. She's a prime example of someone else who should have been the American Idol, versus the actual winner. She can sing, she has personality, and she doesn't have a star complex. It's not all about looks.

  • black female gilbert gottfried

  • im sorry her voiced is amazing but some people u just cant sell how could u sell her.she aint got no neck and she kinda looks like a dinosaur .but she would succed in gospel music cause you could look a mess and still make wit god

  • @HERBLANDZ wow. you sound so arrogant.

  • @freakostar13 thanks its what i do

  • @HERBLANDZ Messed up but funny.

  • @HERBLANDZ

hey you, check how you construct sentences first before you comment on someone's physical attribute. Your IQ is 50, go home and get a life.

  • @TantusThutmose i am home and she still ugly so say what ya will but you didnt run and buy her album even though u feel she has a great voice.if she was cute wit that voice u probably would have looked for her more.so stop bullshiting and wasting time triyna figure out IQs and shit and if ur IQ was much higher u wouldnt have wasted time writing someone that dosnt know u on youtube.weres ur life

  • Michael Slezak (who used to be senior writer at Entertainment Weekly, & created the brilliant Idolatry online series) posted this video on his new American Idol blog at TVLine...

It's from a piece today about the greatest AI auditions that were chills-inducing...

This is his Number One: "Watch. Gasp. Repeat."

Just hope that there a few auditions this 2011 season starting tonite that come even close to Melinda...

  • best F-in audition everrrrr

  • Like Simon says, Melinda is just a BRILLIANT singer. She should've won that season. Period. (sorry Taylor)

  • @Alberto9871 Jordin Sparks won her season, not Taylor, but I agree.

  • Veryyyyy Brilliant!!

  • I think its safe for me to say, she's my most favorite idol runner out of the entire American Idol Season. Yes I love Jennifer Hudson, Kimberley Locke, Syesha Mercado, Tamyra Gray and such, but that surprised and humble look on Melinda's face for everytime she blows away the crowd with that awesome voice, how can she not be? I love her!!!

  • ooooun shes so cute

  • @jamilamommy Racist

  • @jamilamommy what an ignorant thing to say.

  • i met her last summer she is super coool!

  • I think there is not another more genuine artist-performer since Glady´s Knight or Oleta Adams, what a voice what a true person what is it beautiful when someone brilliant comes along

  • she actually left the judges utterly SPEECHLESS

  • She should have won!

  • She's so cute, and she's really good =)

  • Not to be mean, just saying the truth. Blacks really got talent ! MAN !

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng Haha, the black female contestants are ALWAYS my favorites. Latoya London, Paris Bennett, Jennifer Hudson, Tamyra Gray, Vonzell Solomon, and of course, MELINDA DOOLITTLE...need I go on?

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng how are we liking her comment and its complete ignorance!! what would it sound like if i said woahhhh i hate to say it but white people can sing! WHAT?!

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng That's racist.

  • @hedoniaB No it's not troll.

You don't know what racism is.

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng what does being black have to do with her being good? she's good because she's melinda doolittle...

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng thats rly an unneccesary comment. shes good because shes got talent, it has nothing to do with one's ethnicity. not being mean but that was an ignorant and very racist statement, even though it was intended to be a compliment

  • @theGWOK It is not racist to say that black people are talented. It is a biased statement, but not a racist one. Racism is demeaning to other races while it promotes superiority of another race. And IzabelleLouiseOng never said that Melinda was good because she was black, but was rather acknowledging that blacks are talented. Though the statement was a generalization and biased one, it was not racist. Racism is never meant to be positive.

  • @itsnoneofyourconcern even so, that was a completely bias and racially motivated comment. like i said before, she's who she is not because of the color of her skin, but because of her hard work. i don't like it when people use their race as, something that puts them apart from other races. and it sounded like she was saying blacks are superior to all other races, so i would have to say that promotes the superiority of another race. it might not be demeaning, but it sounded racist to me :/

  • @theGWOK She did not attribute her talent to being black nor did she say that other races were untalented. She was admiring the soulful sound of black voices without demeaning others race, yet you find fault with it. *sigh* As a black person, I feel that everyone needs to really educate themselves about the words "racist", "racism", "prejudice", and "bias" and stop throwing them around so casually. You accused an innocent 13-year-old of racism when she was only being nice.

  • @itsnoneofyourconcern she didn't attribute her talent to being black? she said straight up "blacks really got talent" i dont know how else one can allude to their belief that black people in general are talented. *sigh* i understand racism is a taboo word but this is a clear case of unintentional racism. this isnt fair because she is attributing the success of someone to their race, not their hard work. being ignorant is not the same thing as being innocent, especialy in this day and age

  • @theGWOK Attributing her talent to being black would be saying, "She can only sing because she is black." But, no, she said that blacks had talent, and she did not even specify that it was singing talent! What if she had said Beyonce, Tyler Perry, Maya Angelou, and Lebron James are talented? Would you have taken offense then? Are these not talented blacks? Can we as race not be talented? Are Whites, Hispanics, and Asians not talented? Of course they are. And so are blacks.

  • @itsnoneofyourconcern if she said those ppl specifically i wudnt mind. but thats not what she did. she jst said black people in GENERAL are TALENTED. ur right she didn't even mention singing talent, and to me that makes it seem more like shes making a false assumption to put a group of people under one label. and other people ARE talented, its jst not because of their race. people strive to be great and thats why they are successful, there is no "talent" gene so u cant jst say that

  • @theGWOK Blacks in general ARE talented because EVERYONE is talented. And if she had specified one talent, it would have been racially stereotypical. It was just compliment to blacks that had nothing AT ALL to do with other races. Let me put things into perspective for you: She is Asian, she listens to Lady Gaga (white), Bruno Mars (Puerto Rican/Filipino), and Doolittle--all singers of differing ethnicities. Just because she did not mention other races does not make her a racist.

  • @theGWOK John B, that boy can sang. Carrie Underwood can sing too. and Martha Minuzzi definitely can saaang!!

  • @theGWOK There is a talent gene. Have you not seen how certain talents can run in the family (ex. the Jackson's) Of course, it doesn't always work out that way (just like not every child will look exactly like there parents), and it certainly doesn't exist ONLY in black people, but talents can indeed be genetic.

  • @ExtravertmE there is no talent gene. the jacksons were abused by their father into what looked like bootcamp for musicians. they weren't good because of a gene. they were good because they practiced. there is no such thing as a talent gene. look at elvis' daughter for example. unless u can bring up a study on human genetics regarding "talent" that PROVES there is a chromosome that carries "talent" (do u see how ridiculous this sounds), theres no argument that talent is genetic.

  • You're missing the point. It is a proven fact that certain personality traits, mental predispositions, and physical attributes can be passed on to offspring. Remember, there are multiple alleles for various genes, so a child won't always get the gene expressed in the parent.

  • @ExtravertmE the fact that your trying to argue with me that there is a "it factor gene" is absolutely and utterly stupid. there are personality traits, and other things that make up a human being. but to say that there is something genetic that makes someone a star is ridiculous. it takes HARD WORK and honestly a LUCKY BREAK. for u to claim some ppl are flat out superior and genetically better rather than they got there throguh hard work is unfair, not true, and insulting to ppl working hard

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng i've noticed the same thing. everytime a black person auditions, i already expect that they'll be good. hehe.

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng gotta disagree, majority maybe, but I guarantee to you, definitely not all, and i say that as a black person indeed. NOt all can dance either lord knows LOL. some folks been auditioning for this show who were black and were wrong as 2 left shoes up there trying to sing. LOL!

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng No, autotune makes it seem that way.

  • @IzabelleLouiseOng not all of them, i'm black and i know what i'm talkin about.

  • I remember her!

  • I got the chills. She is incredible! She sang that so weel that I could hear the music behind her voice.

  • @FunnyChloeMichelle yeaah me too! you just hear the instruments to go along with it

  • SHREKKKKKK =)

  • She was my favorite and her voice just blows me away...

but DAMN she looks like Shrek!

  • WOW!!!!

  • how the FUCK did she not win?

  • @tulin56 right, i know this is old but I still trying to find out why she doesn't have a deal or anything like that because this lady is cold blooded

  • Gave me CHILLS... and this was just the audition!

  • BEST VOCALS FOR THE SERIES.

  • She really deserved to win the sixth season. Don't get me wrong, Blake Lewis is a great entertainer, and Jordin Sparks is a great singer...But Melinda Doolittle was the greatest singer to ever hit the American Idol stage. I wish she were more popular, famous, and relevant than she is right now. :(

  • this is about singing not about how she looks ! get a life an hear the music dum asses!

    you go girl!

  • Superb!!

  • She's great, she just looks like she doesn't have a neck,

she should just relax, then she'd be awesome !

  • LaKisha was better and she looks like a dog

  • No doubt Melinda should have won that season. I love Jordin Sparks, too. But still.

  • omg, soooooo much better than Jordin fkin Sparks!!

  • WHAT A TIGER! lol i love how shes so shy but when she opens her mouth to sing shes amazing!

  • pure talent

  • i loved her and that season!!!! :-D

  • where the heck is her neck???? ^^

  • I would love to hear her sing this entire song!

  • One word, "Amazing"!

  • She's better than everyone else this season.

  • awsomeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Its ridiculous how she commits to EVERY SINGLE note..Simon's face at 1:31 ...priceless lol

  • Woooooooooooooooooow....Simon was completely stunned. Paula, "Your good, really good "doesnt even begin to capture the brillianceof her voice...please.

  • so this is melinda she is good

  • shes so kind

  • omg she was awesome i was rooting for herrr!!!!!

  • i think its funny that simon say she is the top 2% when she ends up being in the top 3

  • I wish she won so badly!!!!!!

  • wow!!!!!

  • Woah. It's like she's spitting melodies out by herself.

  • I always get goosebumps when i hear her voice.

  • I LOVE her so much! She's so kind and gorgeous and has such fantastic vocals!

  • can not believe people choose Jordon Sparks instead of that wonderful singer...it's not fair,

  • IT'S THE MOM FROM FAMILY MATTERS!!! HARRIET WINSLOW!

  • too bad America, too bad.. i really, really think that you missed this time.. would've been the best A.Idol ever... i really like her not only because she has, so far, the best voice and great musical i.q. in there, but also of her genuine humility, and just pure goodness.. i wish we could have her in the Philippines. lol..

  • Hers is one of a handful of voices that transcends the American Idol competition, itself. Technically, the voice is rich and masterfully controlled with a dark, resonant timbre that can soothe a lullaby, then swell in the upper register into an explosive, barrel-chested powerhouse instrument of the finest well-seasoned belter. Amazingly humble, this young lady's mastery of a truly exceptional instrument is nothing short of spectacular. In her, we are hearing the best of the best.

  • Still this women can take me in AAAHHHHHH!!!

  • doolittle? thats kinda funny

  • Look at Randy's face haha Brilliant!!!

  • gawwd damnnnn!

  • Wheres her neck? She is brilliant!

  • damn goose bumps i loved thid audtiotn so amazing

  • Awesome lady! Great voice, kind, humble, and a down home kinda person. Should have won, but what can you do when it's left to america to pick....

  • this was my favorite american idol audition

  • you are a very good singer

  • SHE SHOULD HAVE WON THAT YEAR!
