@yossariancomplex It is pretty rare that someone defends themselves or their family with a gun, but it's even rarer that the police show up before someone is robbed/raped/assaulted/murdered in a home invasion. Even if guns were outlawed, most of us would be able to get them off the black market that will always exist. I don't know if we're moving towards times of violent revolutions, I think some of it is hysteria, but you should always have the right to the same firepower as the criminal.

@yossariancomplex That is exactly it, the people who founded the US wrote the right to firearms into our Bill of Rights because owning firearms worked so well for them in the revolution. We do have a higher murder rate for various reasons, and it is very easy to murder someone with a gun, but the way most conservatives here look at it is...everyone has the right to defend themselves with firearms against intruders with firearms.

@yossariancomplex It is pretty rare that someone defends themselves or their family with a gun, but it's even rarer that the police show up before someone is robbed/raped/assaulted/murdered in a home invasion. Even if guns were outlawed, most of us would be able to get them off the black market that will always exist. I don't know if we're moving towards times of violent revolutions, I think some of it is hysteria, but you should always have the right to the same firepower as the criminal.
