As recorded:
TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY OF NATIONS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION...............
the iroquois really were the elite native american group in the United States and canada. during the beaver wars they dominated the land they sought ans any tribe or entity that stood in their way got plundered without effort. their culture was fascinating with advanced inventions like the longhouse, the game of lacrosse, the false face society, and so on. despite their confederation they were still outnumbered by algonquin tribes which they still conquered. pretty amazing warriors.
How does a piece of paper protect anyone? How do ideas protect anyone? Go tell Cochise and Geronimo and Sitting bull and Crazy horse and thier descendants about your magic piece of paper and how it protects them. Talk about fairyland ideas you believe some piece of paper is magic and protects people. This paper was forced onto people against their will. NO one had any say if they wanted this nonsense. Lose one king gain 300 more kings
Someone needs to actually read the con-stitution. It's not a democracy and isn't supposed to be. The Founders looked at many forms of govt. from history to come up with the constitution and some insisted on a Bill of Rights. Look up 'Iroquois' on wikipedia.
We need to all be working against collectivism and for Human Liberty. Don't understand? Follow my links. Read the quotes page first.
This is awesome.. Thank you... It is nice to hear such a positive note coming from the Iroquois. I used to live in Seneca Falls... My heart is still with that land...
Hey like video , listen maybe you can help me. My father is from senca falls NY. my grandfather and greatgranfather were named Benjami Franklin Barnes. My grandfather married a woman all I know is her last name was sixberry. I have done a lot of study I live in florida and want to go to New york to get more info. I look indian I dye my hair only because I don't want to look like my father. whole nother story. I have always lived and respected nature my house is all indian . I was never told.sos
the mohawk got on ok with the huguenots. the arrival of the catholic church and the french crown f****d it up.
by tracing eclipses, the original meeting for the confederation was traced back to @1130 AD. the confederacy charter also recognized equality of the sexes, different but equal. the men chose the chief but the women chose who was eligible for candidacy.
we weren't savages. if not for guns and smallpox, we would have prevailed.
"HOMELAND SECURITY: FIGHTING TERRORISM SINCE 1492"
The States might of tried to model the new nation after the Iroquois but they failed. They never gave up slavery and never respected the natives sovereignty never respected each others sovereignty. Plus the Fed's became imperial almost as soon as they freed them selves from the crown.
remember, the iroquios are the decendents of the mixing between the original natives of the northeast and the norse settlers. Thats why they are called the "people of the long house". Long houses came from the norse people.
this is sort of true.. read the Book of Mormon.. it is a history of the native American Indians and this law was Christ laws they lived by... The Plan of Peace..
Just as this country was guided and founded upon the laws of God as they knew it.
Ok I am a History major and this is not accurate at all. The Iriqouis was a loose confederation that joined together during war time. This wasn't really similar to the US Constitution at all. Each one of the US colonies did not want to be in charge. The Iriquois were invited by Franklin in 1765 so that they could be asked to join the US revolution. This ended the Iriquoiis confederation as half the tribes joined the British and half the US. The constitution wasnt written until 1787
USA acquired LAWS from MILLENNIUMS of Politic's, as did the Indians.
Supposedly to consist of Common Sense AS ROTHSCHILDs FED Scrutinizes the Constitution for their preservation. Altering OUR LAWS curtailing our American way of life. ABOLISH FED RES, FEDERALISTS, FED DEFICIT.
@mastior A couple of hints: People might take you more seriously if you didn't litter your posts WITH CAPITALS IN random PLACES are normally seen as a trait exhibited by those whose grasp of reality is somewhat tenuous. Don't keep repeating mistakes - does milleniums of politic make any more sense than European politic? The plural of tax is taxes, not TAX's. Be careful when using nonsense words like tolalatairism and Napoleanonic and if you mean to say Illuminati don't write illuminate.
@kabivose Oops! Deleting stuff to make it fit I should have also deleted the "are" after "PLACES" and replaced it with a comma. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!
The problem with DeGonorrhea's "plan of peace" is that when put in place by the American colonies is seriously infected the people and create a very sick society; the one we have today. lol
Long live the Iroqouis People their traditions and their contribution to the establishment of the US. The American Indians are truly our forefathers and should be honored. I am black but I do have Indian blood in me. I honor strongly what everyone in America should know. We are living the American Indian dream
ok lets get this straight this land was indian land and yes this is real history. you have to realize that the founding fathers were far from perfect. some but not all of them were bigots and some but not all had no problem with stealing and mass murdering natives. but you can not say that all these native chiefs were complete angels either. if you dont think that a lot of these chiefs werent bigots and wouldnt have sold out to british corporations just like the u.s. did then you are wrong
Aloha from Hawaii! This is all 100% true, I read a book called The Patriot Chiefs that explains all this in the first chapter. The Iroquois system of governance is the precursor to our US Constitution. I say we're long past due for an American Indian President of the USA.
The Indians would NEVER have let all of this go on. I myself have Blackfoot in me, my ancestors come from TN, GA etc. The indians knew how to live and how to respect each other. They blessed and appreciated the land and the animals they killed to eat. I would love to have lived back then, my dad will enjoy this!
thanks for posting, if only our country could live by this today, we would all be much better off living in peace. we are all brothers and sisters in some form so we should not fight and we should not argue
thanks for posting, if only our country could live by this today, we would all be much better off living in peace. we are all brothers and sisters in some form so we should not fight and we should not argue
the constitution probly says somthin about peace with indians but i wouldn't think that they created the constitution because in the pitures i didnt see any indidains sighning the constitution
I really like this video, I always knew the Natives had a lot to do with the way our country was built. But don't forget that "Most" of the constitution was taken from Greek and Roman ideas. After all, the idea of both the Republic and the Democratic Republic (Democracy) were founded by the Greeks.
Articles of the Confederacy... That's not the Constitution... That was a bunch of outdated articles which loosely tied the states together and gave Congress the ability to print money and make an army and stuff.
@kenfo0 i am not a brit i just live there , the british took over my mum's country , stole from it , slughtered its people and left it in the hands of incompetent criminals, thus creating the necessity for economic migration.
@acandterra there is a game among perl programmers to try to make the most convoluted code to do a simple task. You appear to play this game in real life. Instead of explaining your circumstance, you talk all around it and never get to it. If you have something to say, say it, or zip it.
@kenfo0 what are u talking about. u called me a brit , i just clarified where i was from and why i do no class myself as british. not convoluted at all.
@acandterra you fucking idiot. show exactly where in your post you "clarified" where you are from? You can't, you rambling moron. Your page says you are from britain. WOW! I must be SUCH an idiot to be able to read! You dumb sob.
@acandterra just like all frauds, when pressed for actual facts, you are suddenly "too busy" or "above it all". You are a laughable clown w/the intelligence of a mud-pie eating serf in the dark ages. you are dismissed.
@kenfo0 i am not a brit i just live there , the british took over my mum's country , stole from it , slaughtered its people and left it in the hands of incompetent criminals, thus creating the necessity for economic migration.
This is a fantastic history lesson. Though I am not an american I really liked it. Damn though I am 22 years old I´d like to hear this history from my father while I go to bed. You know what I mean? ^^ Thank you for this amazing history lesson. The best thing is that they decided to give the women the POWER to elect the man or vote them out. Man are sometimes headstrong and women are calm, gentle, kindhearted, peaceloving and so on while men sometimes behave macho ^^. Yeah I am a man :D
European and American foundations were based upon the principles of the people they destroyed. Ignorant historians and racist recordations, eliminated indigenous crediency that contributed to "white" survival on foriegn lands. The Constitution was flawed and didn't include human rights (ie non-whites) or basic rights (ie women/children). if so, it would not need admendments. It was a white male supremacist document. No other peoples needed LAWS or JAILS to maintain civility, which says alot!!!
I've got nothing against Indians, or any race, but this video is sad. Another people trying to take credit for the Constitution!?
The alliance of nations is not the same as a series laws outlaying basic rights, which is what the Constitution is.
Also, Indians weren't the first to use the "brilliant" "if one nation attacks another, then we all attack them." plan. Popes were doing that in Europe since the dark ages. The Romans did too.
Also, keep in mind that there's a difference between a colonist defending his/her family from a raid on their community by those few groups of Native Americans who were violent and the redcoats and later the federal government massacring God only knows how many innocent and peace loving Native Americans. There's a huge difference between self defense and genocide.
The North American continent was not at all a country when European settlers arrived. There were many different tribes here and many tribal nations. There was enough room for everyone to live comfortably and peacefully. Colonists did get into brief scuffles with natives, but that was no different from all the conflicts that different Native American tribes had with each other. Centralized gov, which also tyrannized colonists by the way, is what wiped out millions of Native Americans.
It doesn't matter if it was a country with recognized borders put in placed by an artificial entity known as government, if you decide to pitch a tent in my backyard then tell me it's your backyard, you can't claim self defense when I try and remove you. European settlers had no right to America, they came and conquered it, the extermination and subjugation of an entire people in the pursuit of freedom from tyranny is psychotic on it's face, there is a reason schools indoctrinate the youth.
How do you know that Native Americans were totally free of European blood themselves? Do you realize that Vikings and Celtic tribes visited the continent long before Columbus was ever born? While many European settlers did 'pitch a tent' in land that didn't belong to them, many more made homes on land that wasn't already claimed. Not all raids on settlers were de facto eviction notices, some were merely robbery. However, Native Americans had as much of a right to self defense as the settlers.
My point is, while Native Americans were often in the right when they attacked villages built on their land, there were also instances of purely arbitrary theft and violence committed by a small fraction of native tribes. The same is true for settlers. Some were just defending their homes, others were trying to steal. But the genocide that happened was brought about by the military might of a tyrannical government. It wasn't something settlers armed with farming tools did on their own.
I disagree. Certainly guys who were part of the military force that carried out that genocide were entirely responsible for what happened, as were those running the government, but your average joe wasn't going around murdering whole tribes or even condoning the murder of those tribes. Hell, the average settler of Euopean ancestry lived so far outside of contact with anyone else that they'd be lucky to even know who won an election until a couple months after said election took place.
You too, my friend. You have some excellent points and I may very easily be quite mistaken. I'll definitely take what you've said into consideration and do a bit more research when I have the time.
Furthermore, settlers of northern European ancestry very very often got along quite well with Natives and worked with them to accomplish mutual goals. For example, when Texans were fighting to free themselves from Mexico, many Native Americans joined them in the fight. During the Civil War, many tribes fought alongside Confederate soldiers (same thing happened up north, I'm sure). Native Americans and colonists also did a great deal of trading with one another on almost a daily basis.
Just to add to this discussion, the heritage of settlers in British colonies (who were primarily Scots, Englishmen, Irish, and Welsh) was one of freedom too. Look up the English Bill of Rights of 1689 and see if it sounds familiar. Same can be said of so many Scottish laws dating back thousands of years. Scots from the days of Robert the Bruce & William Wallace, and Elizabethan Englishmen would have had more in common with the tribes of North America than the people running Georgian era England.
the iroquois nation was a great influence for the american colonies joining together. if they hadn't done it the american colonies wouldn't have joined together. we wouldn't be here today.
Maybe Benjamin Franklin should have read more of his own European History to learn about democracy
Viking Thing System
Every free man had to respect the law , including chieftains and the king. The Thing was a democratic constitution. Compared with the democracy of ancient Athens, which included only 10% of the inhabitants as citizens, the Viking system was more democratic. It included everybody as citizens, except the slaves and those exiled from society - the outlaws.
This video is misleading and suggests the entire constitution was written by indians when the founding fathers just listened to some of their suggestions - I mean they were already aware of democracy from the greeks and the type of system they wanted.
I listened to my local PBS radio at work today, much to the dismay of my customers. The subject was this very thing. The music was beautiful. The heart of the American Native was pure, strong and beautiful. Much to learn from.
This was a great post. Sorry for the hater. Sheesh. I can't believe a person would actually state that indigenous people deserved to be killed, and we are somehow gullible for including them in our version of history. No wonder America is falling.
unfortunately, we don't have as good records for the ancient Americans as we do for the ancient Europeans. But we do know that the masses were dead by the time of the Colombian era. Study the ancient civilizations of Rome, Greece and others. Learn from history.
Let me ask you this.... The US won every major battle of the Viet Nam "police action" but lost the war... why?
George Washington ran from almost every battle against the Brits during the revolution, but won that war, why?
@StarrJaded wow he was stating his opinion something that you are suposedly propagating here with this Iroqui Constitution bullshit, you narrow minded hippie shit
@StarrJaded He doesn't know his/her history. I (personally) calculated the deaths from warfare in North America to 60,000 whites and 40,000 Indians. From the onset of the Beaver Wars to the Second Seminole War, we kicked ass and could (easily) held them off until the Chinese started immigrating here.
Us Cree---able to muster some 20,000 warriors---weren't even needed. The only "battles" we fought was the North-West Rebellion in which 50 braves countered 332 of Otter's men, w/ gats, and arty.
@StarrJaded What was "sick and twisted" about what that person said? All I see is that he is referencing that our Constitution had many Roman and Greek influences. He then referenced general tactics of the VC and George Washington. And when did he suggest that the Native Americans deserve to be slaughtered? It sounds to me that you are so emotional on this issue that you miss logic. No one is denying that some of our history was influenced by the NA Tribes but not all of it was.
@StarrJaded Take for example survivial and some our Military tactics, they were derived from some of the tribal ways however, we got the idea for a Republic from the Roman Republic and Greek philosophy. If you want to convey a point then it does not help anyone when you get emotional beyond logic.
@CRTV1982 Sorry my friend but knowledge of ancient Roman politics at that point in history was remedial to say the least. Sure they understood that the Republic of Rome was based on democracy, but at that point they really had little knowledge of how a democracy worked - still dont for that matter. They then turned to the Haudenosaunee for help in creating their constitution.
@kirokyukan It was based of the Roman Republic largely. And no, the Roman Republic was not based off Democracy, it the last regime before it became the Roman Empire it started acting like it wa a Democracy. So you are wrong on that too. Moreover, some of the things in our Constitution also came from English Common Law. I have never onece heard or read of our founders going to the Haudensaunee for help.
@CRTV1982 The Legislative Assemblies of the Roman Republic were entirely Democratic. Now the only reason you never heard of the Haudenosuanee influence is because you aint bothered researching. Franklin writes about it and so did Adams.
@FuckBuzh Why did the US lose VN?That is easy. Weak politicians interfering. No other reason. I think they interfered to prolong war to transfer as much public money to private "military/industrial complex" coffers as possible. In terms of capability, defeating NV would be like mike tyson in his prime fighting a girl scout.Read about "leaders" not allowing the bombing of SAM sites being built because "you might hit a russian/chinese advisor", then TRYING to bomb after they were up and running.
@FuckBuzhConstitution began by Federalist Alexander Hamilton the first Sec of Treasury under G.Washington, proposed much of America's Doctrines as the First Constitutional Lawyer of USA. His awareness of politics derived from European Politic's for MILLENNIUMS of Tyranny Monarchy's Anarchy's Fascism Tolalatairism Marxism Napoleanonic's Trilaterals. Gangster Politicians ROTHSCHILD ILLUMINATE FEDERALISTS Same Alumni SOCIALIST Perfected Political HIGH TREASON BUSH MCCAIN CHENEY Rockefeller GM
@FuckBuzhHamilton the First FEDERALIST or FED to commit HIGH TREASON mis allocated TAX DOLLARS to ROTHSCHILD, BRITAIN.
Shunned OUT of Politics A HERO with Rothschild Illuminate FEDERALSTS today they are called the FED or FEDS. He was on Rothschilds Payroll Account, the ledger presently rests in a Museum in England. This is how the FEDERALISTS Weaseled their way into USA Peoples Politics. America does'nt need ROTHSCHILDs FEDS stealing our TAX's for his deep pockets.ABOLISH THE FED RES
@FuckBuzh WRONG!!You don't get it. The Iroqois Confederacy was the first American democracy. Perhaps Greece had the first democracy in the world but on American soil the Iroqois built the model for our government.
Great Post Sister =) So why did it take so long for women to be able to vote in the states ? Weak minded is what was written about them back then. It also takes a strong woman to keep and build a family , why would a country be any different.
"History" is what man has made of it, remember its "his story" :op
What bullshit. Revisionist history for sure. Most of the Indians tribes were "merciless Indian Savages" as noted in the Declaration of Independence. Why not read some read history books instead of this made up nonsense.
Wednesday, September 16, 1987 100th Cong. 1st Sess.133 Cong Rec S 12214
REFERENCE: Vol. 133 No. 140
TITLE: SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 76 -- TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY OF NATIONS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION AND TO REAFFIRM THE CONTINUING GOVERNMENT-TO-GOVERNMENT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INDIAN TRIBES AND THE UNITED STATES
show me something from 1787 not 1987. next they will say the mexicans defeated the british for the US because Americans were too lazy to fight for themselves and that black slaves wrote the magna carta in 1215.
i would be happy with the truth. I'm tired of all the distortions and lies. Face it, the constitution was written by white males that were christian, wealthy and honorable. But in order to destroy this country, "they" have to destroy the constitution and the founders first. Make the constitution look like an evil racist document, make the founders look like evil bigots and immoral idiots.
Not that I have to mention this, like you don't know, but, perhaps, choose to block out, but your ancestors and mine DESTROYED whole ways of thought and practice. Yes, all peoples experience times of which I'll refer to as "reverse polarity," this mercilessness of which you ardently grunt. But, our ancestors, in the MOST diminished sense possible, played unfair. That, sir, IS history. And if you can swallow that blended barbed-wire milkshake before bed and sleep well, more power to you, friend.
and unfortunately, this nation will be destroyed because of the weak minded men that live in the US today. unless the white men of america wake up, they will soon be destroyed, like the useless indian savages that roamed this land in the past.
You know, you are the type of scab that I LOVE to get into it with. But, I can truly see that you are incapable of seeing anything but what your parents taught you blind. I am a better person than I was when I would have fought it out with you to a bitter pointless end, so I will not.
But, know that NOTHING good ever comes to a sentient mind that wishes for, retroactively, the demise of anyone. You cross a line with your comment above, and for that YOU are the moron, but not one whom I will be wait for on the other side of that line. It's not karma that seeks you, it's equivalency...and it will hurt.
im not wishing for the destruction of the US. Only that I see it coming. I hope the men of the US wake up to what is happening. Maybe good people can stop arguing and fighting and restore this nation. But that can't happen when we are so divided.
Oh, I know that. For that, you are commendable, I suppose. But, it's your insistence that those before us were worthy of death. I, too, am not for the destruction of the US, but if it came down to the US going down and taking ideals like yours with it, I'm more than willing to wait for what arises, next.
worthy of death, no. But it's a cycle of history. A nation rises from the dust, becomes prosperous, wealthy, and strong, then they start to decline. They become lazy, sex crazed, corrupt and weak. They are ripe for destruction. they either change and survive or they are destroyed.
The Indians had some great civilizations. But they were destroyed. When the white man arrived, there were mostly bloodthirsty savages left. Some exceptions of course, like the Cherokee.
Fuck, I'm getting into it. Two points, then I am done. You can have the last word. So, all peoples who sprawled this continent were sloathful, degraded and worthy of decline? They were all one people of similar ideology? The Ute and the Seminole were neighbors? The Kumeyaay and the Onondaga were buddies, right? They shared stories, yes? No. Refine whom you mean was worthy of decline. And, two, perhaps that there's someone, somewhere, that believes you're ripe for destruction. Think about that...
so the millions of arrowheads and spearheads dating back thousands of years are not real? And the ancient cave drawings of war and barbarism are fake too? Don't drink the kool-aid man. It's painful to know the truth, but it's the only way to liberate yourself from the propaganda that surrounds us. Everyone seems to lie to make his point. We humans tend to exalt our ancestors to almost god-like status. When in reality, they were probably more wicked and corrupt than even ourselves.
of course they had tools... for hunting and crops and such. More important... was the fact they respected this earth and knew everything was connected. All the written quotes of Indians clearly define the importance of respect for all.
well... since most of them were murdered either by disease, or like the plains indians, purposefully flooded from their lands... we lost so much from their history since it was of oral tradition..
American Indian civilizations where not destroyed solely by the white man, it was largely due to tribal animosity. Do some careful research before voicing your opinions as fact.
FuckBuzh; we are so divided because of people like yourself. During the Boston tea party, colonial folks dressed as American Indians united against England, formed fraternities to share a life of freedom that had not existed in Europe, that even the Magna Carta, cantons of Switzerland, and the Virginia Charter.
The founding fathers where Anglicans who thought they where the true Israelites. That the constitution is based on Christian principles is utter non-sense. The only white part of the constitution is the presidency; it is still a pyramid scheme, no-doubt. There is imagery found along with tribal adoptions of some founding fathers, there is also fraternities like the Order of Redmen among others to point to it's contribution. Though not entirely as FuckBuzh points out.
@FuckBuzh Distortions of truth??? Christians with Honour? Now thats a distortion of thruth. The founding Fathers were hypocritical traitors. Declaring war on your leader is treachery, not honour. Writing that all men are created equal while owning slaves is about the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Raping your female slaves is not honour, nor is breaking your word. Honour??? Do you even know what that word means???
@StarrJaded If I am not mistaken, most elected officials believe in "man-made global warming", which is clearly nonsense. To pretend elected officials speak truth is absurd. You can ask the American Indian Elders about that....they will agree, no doubt.
hi great upload-im irish but i did hear an elder from The Republic Of Lakota RUSSELLMEANS (hes on youtube) talk about the con been 1/4 of the great law of peace gra agus solas
1998 a replica bark longhouse was built (Victor NY) , on a site that once was a thriving Seneca Indian Village. In 1687, the Marquis Denonville (Governor General of New France) led an army from Canada to massacre the Seneca in an effort to eliminate them as competitors in the international fur trade business. The entire village was set afire and burned
Russell means was here for the dedication. It was an awesome day... to watch the ceremony/dance and celebration.
No wonder the New World Order has a special hatred for the U.S. Constitution. It's a form of governance unnatural to the white masters of the global plantation in which those deemed fit to live are all serfs under their godlike dictatorial control.
If RFID implants become ubiquitous for tagging livestock in the global market for food "safety", then gets used on people to identify those who are updated with their "shots", the reductive "mark of the beast" could be more literal than figurative.
Excellent find! So our founding leaders liked their ideas, but didn't give a shit and even encouraged & ordered their decimation if they did not comply with their authority.
I am glad to have Native American blood running through my veins. It's probably why I am such a resistant SOB. ;-)
Amen to this awesome vid! Hehehehehee. ;)

The constitution wasnt written until 1787

ok lets get this straight this land was indian land and yes this is real history. you have to realize that the founding fathers were far from perfect. some but not all of them were bigots and some but not all had no problem with stealing and mass murdering natives. but you can not say that all these native chiefs were complete angels either. if you dont think that a lot of these chiefs werent bigots and wouldnt have sold out to british corporations just like the u.s. did then you are wrong

No other peoples needed LAWS or JAILS to maintain civility, which says alot!!!
weez706 2 years ago

There's a huge difference between self defense and genocide.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
There is no such thing as self defense when your occupying another country.
bulldogger 2 years ago
The North American continent was not at all a country when European settlers arrived. There were many different tribes here and many tribal nations. There was enough room for everyone to live comfortably and peacefully. Colonists did get into brief scuffles with natives, but that was no different from all the conflicts that different Native American tribes had with each other. Centralized gov, which also tyrannized colonists by the way, is what wiped out millions of Native Americans.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
It doesn't matter if it was a country with recognized borders put in placed by an artificial entity known as government, if you decide to pitch a tent in my backyard then tell me it's your backyard, you can't claim self defense when I try and remove you. European settlers had no right to America, they came and conquered it, the extermination and subjugation of an entire people in the pursuit of freedom from tyranny is psychotic on it's face, there is a reason schools indoctrinate the youth.
bulldogger 2 years ago
How do you know that Native Americans were totally free of European blood themselves? Do you realize that Vikings and Celtic tribes visited the continent long before Columbus was ever born? While many European settlers did 'pitch a tent' in land that didn't belong to them, many more made homes on land that wasn't already claimed. Not all raids on settlers were de facto eviction notices, some were merely robbery. However, Native Americans had as much of a right to self defense as the settlers.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
My point is, while Native Americans were often in the right when they attacked villages built on their land, there were also instances of purely arbitrary theft and violence committed by a small fraction of native tribes. The same is true for settlers. Some were just defending their homes, others were trying to steal. But the genocide that happened was brought about by the military might of a tyrannical government. It wasn't something settlers armed with farming tools did on their own.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
The people that made up that 'government' were responsible, those people were European Settlers.
bulldogger 2 years ago
I disagree. Certainly guys who were part of the military force that carried out that genocide were entirely responsible for what happened, as were those running the government, but your average joe wasn't going around murdering whole tribes or even condoning the murder of those tribes. Hell, the average settler of Euopean ancestry lived so far outside of contact with anyone else that they'd be lucky to even know who won an election until a couple months after said election took place.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
I'm not saying every individual that came over was responsible, but it wasn't an isolated incident perpetrated by a 'few bad apples'.
I guess we just disagree, it was a good discussion though. Have a good day.
bulldogger 2 years ago
You too, my friend. You have some excellent points and I may very easily be quite mistaken. I'll definitely take what you've said into consideration and do a bit more research when I have the time.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
Furthermore, settlers of northern European ancestry very very often got along quite well with Natives and worked with them to accomplish mutual goals. For example, when Texans were fighting to free themselves from Mexico, many Native Americans joined them in the fight. During the Civil War, many tribes fought alongside Confederate soldiers (same thing happened up north, I'm sure). Native Americans and colonists also did a great deal of trading with one another on almost a daily basis.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
Just to add to this discussion, the heritage of settlers in British colonies (who were primarily Scots, Englishmen, Irish, and Welsh) was one of freedom too. Look up the English Bill of Rights of 1689 and see if it sounds familiar. Same can be said of so many Scottish laws dating back thousands of years. Scots from the days of Robert the Bruce & William Wallace, and Elizabethan Englishmen would have had more in common with the tribes of North America than the people running Georgian era England.
highlanderfae 2 years ago
the iroquois nation was a great influence for the american colonies joining together. if they hadn't done it the american colonies wouldn't have joined together. we wouldn't be here today.

AntiGroupThink 2 years ago 2
This video is misleading and suggests the entire constitution was written by indians when the founding fathers just listened to some of their suggestions - I mean they were already aware of democracy from the greeks and the type of system they wanted.

PzKpfw 1 year ago
@StarrJaded What was "sick and twisted" about what that person said? All I see is that he is referencing that our Constitution had many Roman and Greek influences. He then referenced general tactics of the VC and George Washington. And when did he suggest that the Native Americans deserve to be slaughtered? It sounds to me that you are so emotional on this issue that you miss logic. No one is denying that some of our history was influenced by the NA Tribes but not all of it was.
CRTV1982 1 year ago
@StarrJaded Take for example survivial and some our Military tactics, they were derived from some of the tribal ways however, we got the idea for a Republic from the Roman Republic and Greek philosophy. If you want to convey a point then it does not help anyone when you get emotional beyond logic.
CRTV1982 1 year ago
@CRTV1982 Sorry my friend but knowledge of ancient Roman politics at that point in history was remedial to say the least. Sure they understood that the Republic of Rome was based on democracy, but at that point they really had little knowledge of how a democracy worked - still dont for that matter. They then turned to the Haudenosaunee for help in creating their constitution.
kirokyukan 1 year ago
@kirokyukan It was based of the Roman Republic largely. And no, the Roman Republic was not based off Democracy, it the last regime before it became the Roman Empire it started acting like it wa a Democracy. So you are wrong on that too. Moreover, some of the things in our Constitution also came from English Common Law. I have never onece heard or read of our founders going to the Haudensaunee for help.
CRTV1982 1 year ago
@CRTV1982 The Legislative Assemblies of the Roman Republic were entirely Democratic. Now the only reason you never heard of the Haudenosuanee influence is because you aint bothered researching. Franklin writes about it and so did Adams.

@FuckBuzh Why did the US lose VN?That is easy. Weak politicians interfering. No other reason. ScorpiusIncorruptus 2 years ago
worthy of death, no.
FuckBuzh 2 years ago
Fuck, I'm getting into it. Two points, then I am done. You can have the last word. So, all peoples who sprawled this continent were sloathful, degraded and worthy of decline? They were all one people of similar ideology? The Ute and the Seminole were neighbors? The Kumeyaay and the Onondaga were buddies, right? They shared stories, yes? No. Refine whom you mean was worthy of decline. And, two, perhaps that there's someone, somewhere, that believes you're ripe for destruction. Think about that...

of course they had tools... for hunting and crops and such. More important... was the fact they respected this earth and knew everything was connected. All the written quotes of Indians clearly define the importance of respect for all.
well... since most of them were murdered either by disease, or like the plains indians, purposefully flooded from their lands... we lost so much from their history since it was of oral tradition..
desire4liberation 2 years ago
American Indian civilizations where not destroyed solely by the white man, it was largely due to tribal animosity. Do some careful research before voicing your opinions as fact.
goyahtlamon 2 years ago
FuckBuzh; we are so divided because of people like yourself. During the Boston tea party, colonial folks dressed as American Indians united against England, formed fraternities to share a life of freedom that had not existed in Europe, that even the Magna Carta, cantons of Switzerland, and the Virginia Charter.
goyahtlamon 2 years ago
The founding fathers where Anglicans who thought they where the true Israelites. That the constitution is based on Christian principles is utter non-sense. The only white part of the constitution is the presidency; it is still a pyramid scheme, no-doubt. There is imagery found along with tribal adoptions of some founding fathers, there is also fraternities like the Order of Redmen among others to point to it's contribution. Though not entirely as FuckBuzh points out.

It was an awesome day... to watch the ceremony/dance and celebration.
every year they have festival:)

It's probably why I am such a resistant SOB. ;-)

Somebody just forwarded this to me.
Funny, because right before that I was writing to my mother about this. May we make reparations and find the true spirit that birthed that document.
Thank you. excellent post.
