This game is awesome. I remember most wanted and carbon, after that it just went downhill. Pro street was so bad that I never got past the first race. Undercover was crap all around and when I heard about shift I thought it will be terrible also, but when I played the demo, I made up my mind that I have to get this game.

Yup, you will be able to upgrade a bunch of stuff that will affect the performance of your cars. And like I said below, you'll be able to really in-depth and make changes as small as changing the pressure in your tires. Now, whether there is specifically suspension tuning, I'll have to get back to you because I don't know what every single option is =P

The damage in this game is quite realistic. You can either have the damage be strictly visual (but the damage still shows up on the car), or you can have it actually affect the performance of the car. It all depends on which difficulty setting you have the game in: casual, normal, experience or professional.

so if a bumper falls of for example will it stay on the track for the rest of the race and you be able to interact with it or will it just decay over time

Yup, if the bumper falls off it will stay on the track, and if you end up hitting it, it will damage your car.

The customization is pretty in-depth.

You can customize the interior and the exterior of your cars. Also, if you want to get really specific, we provide the user the ability to change such things like the tire pressure. So if you want to tweak even small things like that, you'll be able to!

i know you do need for speed but do you think shift has better customization that juiced 2 which i think is the most in depth customization at the moment because that done pretty much everything (speedometers, tire pressure even the seats and steering wheel was customizable)

While customization can be rather in depth, it isn't at that level of detail. The options to modify the car's looks are very sparse except for the painter really. The tuning however seems to be pretty well done, it has a simple mode for those who aren't a gear-head with encyclopedic knowledge of the complexities, and an advanced mode for those who want to get into it.

... The game is more focused on actual driving rather than car styling. The Exterior Paint and Vinyl editor could be much better, they are slow and clunky if you want to paint individual body parts and I wish the manufacturer decals had some more color options as well as better organizing since it takes forever to find the decal you want. Overall though the core of the game is racing and that is actually extremely well done this time.
