It can be challenging. You need to know a lot about water quality and the nitrogen cycle. The work is not hard just time consuming. There is a lot of things that have to go right for this to work. How much money you need depends on how big you want to go. You could do it on less than $100.00.
I am no longer breeding these clowns. I went to big too quick and we had a second child which took every last minute of my time up. I ended up selling over 300 of them.
Rotifers are zooplankton. For clowns it's rotifers and Artemia (Baby Brine Shrimp) are the way to go. Some people are having success skipping the BBS and feeding a food called Otohime!
I bought two clowns about 2 years ago and they paired up. They started laying 600-800 eggs every two weeks. I was able to get the eggs to hatch and raise them feeding them live zooplankton and baby brine shrimp. They parents do live in an anemone but it's not required to breed them.
can you cross breed clowns i got just bought a percula and a tomato clown fish and was wondering if i could breed them i dont have a anenome but they are the same size

How hard was it to do this i herd its alot of work and have read up on it. If i get a job this summer im guna try it.
littlecat34 2 years ago
The hard part is the first 48 hours. Once/if you get them past that it's really not all that difficult. It is a lot of work but not difficult work.

AWsome video! So where can you get rotifers? My clownfish breed all the time but I never have anything to feed their hatchlings.
767er767er 2 years ago
There are many retailers in the US that sell rotifers. In Canada I get them from a company called REEF CREW.
habsfan99999 2 years ago

Do you think zooplankton and live baby shrimp are better than rotifers?

habsfan99999 3 years ago
Did you use the "moonlight"effect to get your fish to mate?If so when did you turn it on/off?
theboosteddelsol 3 years ago
Nope...Not Necessary 80-82 temp a ton of food and good water quality should do the trick.
