I am glad you posted this video, made my day. Another thing about it is that they've been in the business since 1977 and you have to ask, "Why are they still here?" I showed it to my stepdad and mom and they like it too. You sir have one extra subscriber. Keep on making videos like these!
You have to remember that GLA mostly flies to EAS cities such as Ironwood. I work at a regional airport in Wisconsin as a customer service agent, and I work with 6 different regional airlines that fly for a single major carrier. They ALL have the same problems as you are describing however it is quite rare to see multiple days in row of cancellations. It sucks when people feel like they are getting shafted by the airlines but most of the time its for safety and FAA/DOT compliance
@jayeb1rd I've had family fly in with Frontier and they've not once cancelled a flight or even been late. In fact the last time I picked my brother up they had landed a few minutes early! Do I wish we had Great Lakes back? You bet. I wish they were back in the dumpster they crawled out of.
I apologize for your misfortune with Great Lakes Airlines. Some things to consider when looking at this airline. They fly two types of aircraft. Beachcraft 1900's and Emreair 120's. If you have ever done reasearch on the Beachcraft which is the majority of their fleet they have not been made since the 70's. To find decent parts to put into those aircraft is very hard! as for them driving you if you pay attention to their contract of carrage they can do that as long as they get you there.
My Cousin is a captain for Great Lakes and he spends more time on the ground because of mechanical problems than in the air. He has also had a flaming battery drop out of a wing mid-flight over northern Montana
@nathanlorimer When you fly GLA you have to expect problems like that. I honestly don't know how they are still in business.. I hear ya man. Been there and done that. Multiple times! No more!!!
@bvondross I had to ask my family to start flying into Wausau or Duluth both of which are a minimum 200 mile round trip for me to pick them up. GLA was serving Ironwood, MI just 15 miles away but it was worth the time & gas to NOT deal with those GLA idiots. The problem isn't their crews, It's the owners and management who just don't give a crap.. Like I said many times. GLA SUCKS!!! Thanks for writing and have a great day. simple
@bvondross They finally got fired here and replaced with Northwest Airlines. It's been a while since I made those videos. My wife & I were recently going thru security at the Central Wisconsin Airport when the TSA lady watching the XRAY machine asked if I'd ever flown GLA. I said yeah why and she replied "I love your Youtube Videos." She had previously worked at the Ironwood Airport. She said "Thank you for saying what we couldn't." It was too cool!

It's as if he was describing my experience! This is the worst excuse for an airline. I really feal sorry for the much under-paid staff that works for this company. I wrote a letter complaining about my experiences. I sent it to their customer service department and to the CEO. Of course I didn't get a response. Now I will take it one step further. They should not be able to get away with their incompetence without reimbursing their passengers for abusing them.

@js7766 Thank you. I made this video and several others a year ago. Last month GLA got the boot from our little airport and Frontier has replaced them. I had a few that defended GLA but most sounded like you (and me). They are without the sorriest carrier in our country. The honestly sell tickets knowing the flights can't be made because of lack of personnel and that is fraudulent and should be punishable by law.
This past Christmas season my flight was cancelled. This was the third day in a row it had been cancelled. Not only did they not inform me, they had no one at the gate to tell me that it was cancelled, and the departing board said that it was on schedule. I ended up having to take a six hour bus ride to Rhinelander. Then, on the way home they lost my suitcase. I got it five days later after many phone calls. This was my second horrible experience with Great Lakes. Last time for me!
@js7766 Been there and done that too many times with GLA. Thankfully they are history here now. I had made sure my relatives flew into Duluth or Wausau (both 100+ miles from here) and I drove to pick them up. It was far better than their trips being ruined by the jackwads that run GLA. Lessons learned... Thanks again for writing and have a great day. simple
Many things are good to complain about but, please do not blame the fight crew, Regional airline pilots are some of the most overworked underpaid people and GLA is the worst, some of these pilots are getting paid south of $16,000 a year. the Airline can be blamed but the flight crew taking a rest is a good thing in the long run, we have learned from Colgan 3407
@MrMoooGR8 If you watch my other videos on GLA you'll see that I've done nothing but praise the underpaid over worked crews and employees. I've said many times the problem lies with management. You are right and I totally agree. GLA has now gotten the boot from Irownwood and are being replaced with Frontier. Thanks for writing.
I work very closely with Great Lakes airline. I would say that out of 10 days, they might have 1 day where their isnt a flight that is delayed or canceled due to mechanical issues or crew rest. I keep track of the numbers and they have been getting worse every month. The record for delayes was 37 in a month over the past year and we are up to 45 for this month with 5 days to go. Great Lakes is a substandard airline and yes...it does SUCK!
@wyatturp33 This is the second comment I received today saying almost exactly the same thing. THANK YOU! Fortunate for me, our local airport is getting a new carrier and saying adios to GLA. simple
@runway34r Actually the closest airports to me are Duluth (100 miles) and Wausau (120 miles). Ironwood is only 15 miles but with all the problems we've had with GLA, its worth the drive to us to use the others. Thanks for your suggestion.
GLA has serviced IWD in the past with a rather good track record. (10-12 years with service to Minneapolis and O'Hare) Remember...Skyway is no longer in business and neither is it "Major" partner Midwest Airlines... There is no 19 seat airliner being made today and hasn't been for a long time - hence there will be breakdowns. Which is louder, you or a jet engine whining...:)
You csn say anything you want but the facts speak for themselves. Three of "3" vacations were spoiled because GREAT LAKES cancelled due to equipment problems or the crew required time off If your plane is that untrustworthy it should be grounded before it crashes. I think that is worth WHINING about. Obviously your only concern is profit and it shows. Spend some $ and get a new plane or stop flying. New video coming...
Unfortunately you live in a place that isn't too from the sign just south of Houghton, MI that says "Houghton 10 miles, end of the Earth 1 mile" Airline ticket prices haven't changed in 20 years and the price of fuel have increased 3 fold and you neighbors don't fly enough to warrant a different airline or a larger aircraft.
That may well be true, but I have to wonder how the airport warranted building a newer, larger terminal. We loved this little airport when Midwest Connect served it, but like I said, we are DONE with Great Lakes. Thank you for commenting.
I don't think he was reffering to how big the airplane is. He was commenting on how bad the service is. Sure the airplane is small and the ticket prices are high, why should people have to give up valuable time just to get to a destination? GLA has time and time again proven that their on-time performance sucks. They are understaffed and do not have enough airplanes to fly to the cities they have been awarded, per EAS contracts. GLA=cockroach of the sky.
Thanks for your comment. I've just completed a follow-up video because that Flnsk8r person keeps making excuses for the worst airline in the sky. Have a great day.

@jayeb1rd Yeah with this economy people are just not flying so we're losing them. Sad. Iut I'll walk before flying GLA. Thanks.
