I remember when I was a kid I was responsible to bring water home. I used to ride my donkey with 2 tanks tied on it and go about a mile to get water and fill my tanks and come back home.
In winter, we used bring in snow, melt it and use it. That was easier and faster. That did not let us take bath everyday though.
