They were annoyed because they missed the opportunity to overcharge her for the various "services" they usually provide during the development of an album, which then give them license to cream off the majority of the profits from its sales before a penny goes to the artist. Well done, Joss!

It's a shit attitude. She seems to have forgotten about how she amassed the considerable fortune she had - through people paying for her music. She's one dumb cunt with an extremely affected voice.
She said in and interview that music should be shared, and that is a great attitude. I liked it so much I am telling my friends about her. I never really heard her music before tho. Metalica on the other hand, has a different fan base. These people are, I would say pirate types. However, Metalica played the poor card and actually got napster shut down. Metalica wasn't poor. Their fans were. By restricting ease of access to their music, they narrowed their own fan base. Short sighted move.
She even said in an interview that piracy was great so more people could listen to her music and go to jam with her at her shows and that music is to be shared with everyone.
I can't seem to locate the comment I posted earlier, but I will reply to this one instead.
You made a comment about how you are supporting the poor while also putting yourself through the economic system of paid labor. I don't support the capitalist, market economy as it currently is, so when I diss the system, I'm not dissing the people (like you and me) who work within it. I pay taxes too buddy, but I don't fret about it. I believe that we should support each other ...cont....
cont.... Not the system which doesn't support shared wealth, knowledge and resources. You and I should both be able to contribute to this world without having to work a crap 9 to 5 to prove our worth. It's not right, IMO. This is my belief, if you believe otherwise, you can speak your piece, and I will listen (read).
well the "middle man" (EMI) is pissed because Joss stone showed them they are not necessary.
because of their idiotic business to label and price single aspect of our life art and music are not accessible to a lot of poor people.
Music, education, food , water, etc. should be accessible to everyone all over the world to do that it should be free. if the people want can give the artist what they can afford.
I alway wondered why she wasn't bigger, Like singing at superbowl halftime. Pretty white girl with amazing voice and all. Well, she wants to do it her way and not do crap music. I think she's OK with not being Beyonce.
And then she made her own record label "Sone'd Records", but EMI still owned her previous work, and EMI released a greatest hits album in september 2011. And who knows if this is related but some dudes tried to kill her...
Joss is really a true artist, not a puppet of big business. How many singers go around like "stars", selling millions of copies, appear in all television programs, appear beside of all VEVO videos, and are nothing more than disposable products manufactured by record companies, which become famous for REPETITION more than their TALENTS. A lot of times I think Joss born in the wrong decade.
I remember somone long ago who had the same attitude before he let them "get to him" maybe you might know who that was??????.........Jimi Hendrix......Joss,dont let them get to you, like they did Jimi. She's Great!!!!
Considering I've just watched the clip of her presenting an award in fluent (and hideously embarrassing) American at the 2007 Brit awards, I was ready for more hating, but she actually comes across really well here! Just a shame the music's crap!
I'm 54 now been into soul music since I was a kid. Joss Stone, you are right in there with the best of them. Love the songs from your albums, "Baby, Baby, Baby", "I've Fallen In Love With You", and my all time favorite "Super Duper Love". Keep on makin' the music from the heart. Singin' from the soul. Hope I can one day catch a live shoe in the USA when you tour here again. God Bless You!
I wish they'd have included clips of tracks from the new album, rather than the old ones. The songs played during this are the type of over-produced crap that she was rebelling against. Colour Me Free is a much better collection of songs.
You go girl. I totally agree. Whatever with these record and movie companies. They charge so much money now just to go see concerts and movies at the theatre. I worked at a theatre and I cannot believe the amount of money that goes to the record and movie companies from the ticket sales. Its ridiculous.
This is what makes the music industry so unpredictable (and interesting). You've got young, inexperienced, often naive but also passionate creative people entering into a professional relationship with educated, older, level-headed business executives. Volatile but fun.
The consequences being, of course, that no one hears the music anymore and your career is left gasping on indian rug that you've recorded your two-minute album on. I'm not hating but I'd have a bit more time for her these days if I didn't think that everything she comes out with, from these words to her songs, weren't in large part the product of a total weed haze.
This is the first interview I ever saw with Joss, since first hearing her album years ago. And Joss baby you are beautiful! True, real, pure! You go, girl! <3
Music piracy and illegal downloading is anti-semitic. People are downloading music to hurt the Jewish media bosses and take away their profits. If you download music illegally, you are a Nazi criminal!

I'll be totally honest with everyone on here& thatI haven't heard her latest album - ( Is that the "Colour me free " one?
But I heard her Very very first two albums & I'ver got to say that IMO the 1st one was brilliant , and that the 2nd one was excellent. Butthat "Introducing" was

Joss stone is one of the few artists that sings real music(like diana krall, norah jones), shes not a plastic diva like many of these days(lady gaga, rihanna , etc) , i´m glad she´s real and that she make music from her heart, not what the music group wants
wow, i love her...that album happened to be my favorite & now i like it even more because she stood up for it...so many artists today are controlled by their "people" i'm really glad she's not :)
EMI wants to controll everything and so dies Warner Music Group (yes the label that cencors every shit here on youtube even if there is only a 2 second fracture of something that is copyrighted by them. The whole music industry sucks. its all about money, money, money...damn money. love joss and her way she handles things.
@luke255 I agree about the record companies and her attitude, but My friend told me about her music, I've been listening to her constantly ever since. XD
Joss' accent ... or rather, accents? I've got a very good ear for accents and hear an original mix of English accents she's inherited from her family origins. There's the Dover accent (where she was born), Devon, where she moved to when she was 9. There's a mix of Essex/East Anglian accents (fishing port accents), Lancashire/Liverpool accents ... with a distinct "Irish-origin" accent. Then International Fame drew in a variety of other accents ending up with the 'Joss Stone Accent'
Dont believe that ANY music corporation has the interest of any Artist on their books, look at the history, they shape, mould, control, milk, wear out, then dump everyone that is no longer earning them money. Like ANY corporation its ALL about the money.
Joss is already above this and lets hope that all the other artists follow suit. Its about the music not financial gain. Rock on Joss ;-)
Please never change , your music is the best I have heard , keep on doing what you do best and your fan base will expand through the roof, come to Texas and I will be in the front row and I am an old lady, lol. Love your voice, your barefeet, the whole package, keep up the great work.
Love you, they can suck it. Please don't change, because we love you just the way you are. (Best line in any movie) but it fits here perfectly. Your performance with Melissa Etheridge at the Grammy's was the best performance I ever saw, you were supremely fantastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
@santasreal1 I hear a lot of British people say this. But as an American, when I hear her speak, she still sounds more British than American. Especially in this video. People can't really help what accent they speak with, it's usually influenced by the people around them. I think there may be a little resentment behind all of the bitching, but you should just get over the fact that she is an international star and not just a British star.
@PeteJones100 Yeah? Cause you a deaf motherfucker huh Petey?? Fuck you BOOOY go listen to your broke ass Madonna and Lady Gag-Gag cause you can't handle the REAL SHIT!!
I heard EMI controlled her too much so she wanted to express how she really felt with the songs (without the direction of the record company) and as a result she came out with a really original and amazing :)
"colour me free" was released on my sixteenth birthday, BEST PRSENT EVER! <3
it would've been such a shame if the label changed anything!! i'm so glad she just went ahead and recorded it without emi interferring... then again, if she'd been the kind of person who would let a label change her music she wouldn't be the one and only joss stone :)
Joss, stay true to yourself and your love for the art of music. Stay soulful and keep it pure. Colour Me Free! is truly a masterpiece. I love that you are an artist who puts out music with depth.
SHE AWESOME! i agree with her 100% people want you to be who they want you to be and thats not ideal. She sang what she wanted to and that showed her fans who she was as a person. People buy music because we look for something real and not something made to earn money. I believe that she can do WAY better from EMI and she has. I'll keep listening to her music because it has a message and thats what the world needs. :)
E M I SUCK! JOSS IS PURE TALENT! THEY CAN WEAR IT! DO 1 JOG ON AND GET A GRIP! WE DONT WANT TO HERE COMMERCIAL MUSIC LADY GA GA IS RUBBISH, DUFFY IS BALLS! RADIO 1 BORING! WE WANT FREE LOVING JAM MUSIC THAT COMES FROM THE HEART! YOU GO GIRL!
You got to give it up to Joss to say, Screw you I'm doing this album the way I want it done. If the business ppl are doing their job they'd know how to sales pitch her sound and get it played. but, then again, what do I know I'm just a consumer that enjoys her soulful, funky voice and songs. lol : )
Jocelyn, sweetie, all these big shot hip hop/soul producers you need have to get paid, Betty Wright and all the other vocal coaches have to get paid, the PR, the bookings agents etc. Grow the f*ck up and shut your whinging, you spoilt little brat. EMI are just trying to protect their assets, Listen to them for f*ck sake, they might be a big, scarey company but they are experts at making mediocre talent look exceptional.
Joss doesn't need EMI. She should have informed EMI, but it's ridiculous that EMI censored the album art. It might be creative or 'playful', but surely not 'offensive'.
I can't not say how happy it makes me that she kept her standards up because Joss is nothing shy of god dam amazing!!! the music industry needs her soul, beauty and swagger!!!
why would anyone be tired of eher complaining about her reord company they want eher to be "shallow" like other artist she has a true soul and is truly gifted she stands out!! keep up the good work Joss!!! forever a fan!!
i think i just fell in love with this woman.

@Neo2906 i agree with pete , she's a good singer buy that american twang when she speaks does my head in , she's up her own arse
santasreal1 1 year ago
@santasreal1 I hear a lot of British people say this. But as an American, when I hear her speak, she still sounds more British than American. Especially in this video. People can't really help what accent they speak with, it's usually influenced by the people around them. I think there may be a little resentment behind all of the bitching, but you should just get over the fact that she is an international star and not just a British star.

"Lets just make Noises"..........umm I'd love to "make noises" with Joss..; )
You go girl dont let the man keep you down.
Start your own damn record label if they stop you.
Or go talk to Prince................I believe he has a label of his own.

You got to give it up to Joss to say, Screw you I'm doing this album the way I want it done. If the business ppl are doing their job they'd know how to sales pitch her sound and get it played. but, then again, what do I know I'm just a consumer that enjoys her soulful, funky voice and songs. lol : )

She's so sweet... in my opinion she should be much more famous than she is... Love her voice! No Lady Gaga shit... :-)))

Right on. The musician makes the music - the label is important also - yes - but they are just a means to an end.

Jocelyn, sweetie, all these big shot hip hop/soul producers you need have to get paid, Betty Wright and all the other vocal coaches have to get paid, the PR, the bookings agents etc. Grow the f*ck up and shut your whinging, you spoilt little brat. EMI are just trying to protect their assets, Listen to them for f*ck sake, they might be a big, scarey company but they are experts at making mediocre talent look exceptional.
sibermonk 2 years ago
im just gonna ignore everything else you said and ask what about her talent is mediocre???
xMisteeqx 2 years ago 6
Joss doesn't need EMI. She should have informed EMI, but it's ridiculous that EMI censored the album art. It might be creative or 'playful', but surely not 'offensive'.

why is EMI's always trying to ruin everything? Music is LIFE, NOT A F****** BUSINESS DAMMIT! this people just think in money?
Joss is amazing and talented, so, she deserves to release "Colour me free"!
