just a bit of info. when stevie ray played this on his soul to soul album it was with the band, but when he played it here, he was the one who recorded all the tracks separately because... he played the drums, he played the bass and he played the guitars and did vocals for this song. if you listen they are different. the sound of the song, even the speed. He was a talent of more than the guitar.
I saw Jeff Beck at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, back in May. He was amazing! And while I do think that he is a great guitarist, Stevie Ray will always be number one with me. I wish I could have seen him before he left this world. He put more heart into playing than any other guitarist that I've listened to. I love to watch clips of him playing live. He always looked like there was nothing better in the world than playing his guitar.
who cares, there is no 'one greatest guitarist' playing the guitar isnt just about the physical act of doing so, its about the soul and the specific individual which are things that cannot be measured or compared, every guitarist has there unique attributes for which they are praised and we shouldnt bitch, moan and argue over a topic which can never be decided, they are amazing, just shut up and appreciate the music and the heart that they each give.
there is no best guitarist, thats the beauty of art, no one is the best, everyone just has a different way of expressing their art. Why waste your time fighting over who is better? just enjoy the art and the artist.
SRV THE BEST!, I HATE WHO MAKING FUCKING COVER AND TRYING TO BE STEVIE.. NVM YOUR COVER AND GET A FUCKING JOB FAG YOU GUYS WANNA BE GO FUCK YOURSELF. AGAIN SRV THE BEST
@estderoma Best guitarist ever will have written many great songs, will have written then in many genres and will be technically proficient in many styles. That a big order man. I'll name a couple who can contend for that title....
Steve Morse
Guthrie Govan
Steve Vai
Eric Clapton( not 'cause he technical but he's written many excellent songs in many styles)
Trevor Rabin
Micheal Romeo
Idk. I guess it might be subjective at this point but as you can see SRV can ONLY play blues.
@chillichomper LOL, Steve Vai and Guthrie Govan? They wish they could play like SRV, no one could physically even come close to the same level as him, except for other blues guitarist that try to emulate him such as KWS. Guitar playing is subjective, so i personally feel no one is better than the other, but there is more to playing than running harmonic minor, sweep picking, and tapping...SRV played with heart and I dont think anyone ever had "command" of the guitar like him. Clapton's overrated
@chillichomper ...Vai, Govan, Satriani, and all the other shredders know the instrument inside and out and I think "Tender Surrender" is one of the most triumphant pieces of music ever composed, but if SRV and Vai were on stage at the same time and Vai's shredding at his best, SRV would come over the top of him and crush him with his passion, power, and the monster tone that came from his fingers...Richie Kotzen is a much better comp as for as overall talent to SRV out of the shredders...
He actually played drums on the slower "Soul to Soul" version. This was the "rejected" version that they originally recorded. This is the better one in my opinion. SRV was one of the greatest ever, and I'm glad I got to see him live before his passing.
@headwhop26 stevie played drums on another version of this song, more of a slower shuffle, same lyrics but completley different feel.......can't remember which album it is on but it is out there if you look for it
@HitPalaceTV It was. Story is he actually planned to drive back to Chicago with his brother and sister in law. At the last minute he arranged for a helicopter and was told there would be three seats available. Turns out however there was only one seat left and so he asked them "Do you mind if I take the seat? I really need to get back." The rest is history...
Started listening to SRV aged 15, am now 23 and I still listen to him everyday before I pick up my guitar (and after when I break a string and can't play anymore). BB King might have the soul, Hendrix might have the showmanship, SRV has the raw talent, people like John Mayer can only pretend towards his sound.
@CoreyTaylorlover12 im pretty sure his music will, im 14 and tbh i dont see how alot of people listen to that rap gansta shit, gives me a head ache :)
