Sorry, but I'm not so sure if the "spice" of love is the fear of not seeing your loved one anymore. I think it is the fear of them being lost. There's plenty of incidicences when two lovers are no longer able to meet. And do you really think widows stop loving the memory of their departed?
I think love is a combination of sexual chemistry and rational desire. Not quite arbitrary, not quite fated either.
