@amastara (that's still a wig. Later she added extentions (weave). She was on the NBC soap opera Another World during this same time as well. 227 was an NBC show too, so she did both for a while. On Another World, she didn't have the wig. She played a reformed hooker named Lilly Mason. But she had her real hair.

70's and 80's was the best time for sitcoms 227 and Good Times are my favorite sitcoms ever! ( and I am a white) I wish that TV nowadays was this good, BUT sadly I don't think we will ever have good sitcoms like this again!  Marla Gibbs is my favorite on this show, she is basically the black version of Bea Arthur (Golden Girls) their characters are very similiar!

If you get so comfortable you get out of touch, how you supposed to make something this good? The ones you'd got in charge would be Jackee's Sandra and all they'd wanna do is make every kid like Marla Gibbs' Mary into a multi-ethnic John Bender from The Breakfast Club. OMG, thank you ShaDeed for mentioning her passing. I had no idea until today! :( She was so great on 227 and on Sesame Street. She will surely be missed. And its so sad she died of breast cancer. I hope they someday find a cure for this disease. So sad... RIP Alaina.

This was one of those shows that showcased apartment life (other shows that showcased apartment life were Friends, Will & Grace, Jeffersons, etc.). Mary, Rose, Lester, Brenda, Pearl and everyone on the show was a close knit family!
