I feel it's a complexity vs speed, cliff plays all sorts of notes, but Harris, sure he'll play repeated notes but to play at that speed for that long is insane, Cliff, plays complex solos with all different notes but not as fast as steve...
There has to be a more impressive display of Harris's bass prowess than this. The 1st thing you learn when playing with three fingers is the triplet. Cliff was the man.

@ MrGram6. The ONLY good songs on the Entire album are El Dorado (Which I saw them play live in Concord June 2010) and "When the Wild Wind Blows", otherwise the album is stil shit.
As soon as I clicked the 'play' button, I knew Cliff won. I have learned a lot on how to play bass from listening to both of these guys but Cliff's the reason I play bass. If I end up playing the bass for the rest of my life, I'll think of those years as my lifelong tribute to him before I die. To me, he wins against every bassist past, present, and future.
Dude comparing these two is pretty hard. There two completely different animals. They are both badass but way different musicians, cliff was in a guitar driven band where he got to add his own style and flair to bass and was the one guy who made distorting a bass cool but steve was in a bass/vocal driven band and wrote almost all the music as where iron maiden was his brain child and had a way different style in my opinion though THERE THE BEST TWO BASSIST THAT EVER LIVED
To start with I have been a Maiden fan since 1985 so lets get that out of the way. Harris is not even of the same caliber even now 25 yrs after Cliff burton's death. Harris' claim to fame is the bass gallop. Cliff was writing intricate harmonies when Harris was galloping along (pun intended). Harris' play style sounds all the same with no innovation. Maiden has completely gone down hill since Dance of Death. Their last album The Final Frontier was pure garbage.
Meh. It's funny how you mention that Cliff wrote a few songs. Iron Maiden have put out 145 original studio songs, and out of that Mr. Harris has solely written the music and lyrics for 57 and co-written 64 songs - that's 121 in total. So there are only 14 Maiden songs NOT written by Steve Harris.

There are some songs that he didn't write, but he makes Phantom of the opera, all killer's album, 666 the number of the beast, hallowed be thy name, run to the hills, the trooper, to tame a land, aces high, the rime of the ancient mariner, alexander the great. @Holymoly99100 Iron Maiden is one the few bands where you can hear the bass loud and proud, more so than in Metallica's songs. You try listening to the bassline in Phantom of The Opera and tell me it's easy shit. I love both bassists but your comment reeks of ignorace.

Now listen fucktards. Cliff was a technically gifted and skilled player. Steve Harris was a bad ass in his own right but if you were to compare the two? Cliff is the untouchable in the world of bass. There is no comparison, both great bassist in there own right. I would not be playing the bass myself if not for these men. And there are so many others, Robert Trujillo, Les Claypool, Getty Lee, John Entwistle. John Paul Jones, Paul Mccartney and who can forget Gene Simmons.. So many other great Bassist, and to compare any one of them.. Can’t do it. Just appreciate the gift that each one have given us. And morn the one’s who have been taken from us.

@ MrGram6. The ONLY good songs on the Entire album are El Dorado (Which I saw them play live in Concord June 2010) and "When the Wild Wind Blows", otherwise the album is stil shit.

As soon as I clicked the 'play' button, I knew Cliff won. I have learned a lot on how to play bass from listening to both of these guys but Cliff's the reason I play bass. If I end up playing the bass for the rest of my life, I'll think of those years as my lifelong tribute to him before I die. To me, he wins against every bassist past, present, and future.

Dude comparing these two is pretty hard. There two completely different animals. They are both badass but way different musicians, cliff was in a guitar driven band where he got to add his own style and flair to bass and was the one guy who made distorting a bass cool but steve was in a bass/vocal driven band and wrote almost all the music as where iron maiden was his brain child and had a way different style in my opinion though THERE THE BEST TWO BASSIST THAT EVER LIVED

To start with I have been a Maiden fan since 1985 so lets get that out of the way. Harris is not even of the same caliber even now 25 yrs after Cliff burton's death. Harris' claim to fame is the bass gallop. Cliff was writing intricate harmonies when Harris was galloping along (pun intended). Harris' play style sounds all the same with no innovation. Maiden has completely gone down hill since Dance of Death. Their last album The Final Frontier was pure garbage.

Meh. It's funny how you mention that Cliff wrote a few songs. Iron Maiden have put out 145 original studio songs, and out of that Mr. Harris has solely written the music and lyrics for 57 and co-written 64 songs - that's 121 in total. So there are only 14 Maiden songs NOT written by Steve Harris.

Harris is Iron Maiden. Steve wrote all Maiden Albums. There are some songs that he didn't write, but he makes Phantom of the opera, all killer's album, 666 the number of the beast, hallowed be thy name, run to the hills, the trooper, to tame a land, aces high, the rime of the ancient mariner, alexander the great. So, Harris is better than Cliff Burton (R.I.P.)

First of all. One of them is actually really playing a solo not the other. Cliff is. Steve play the beginning of running free, wich isn't a real bass solo. @SterMetal If you are aware of music..you should know that STEVE HARRIS WROTE THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST... Steve had created PHANTOM OF THE OPERA... Steve had created RUN TO THE HILLS... Steve wrote WRATHCHILD... Steve wrote Fucking ACES HIGH.... Steve wrote THE TROOPER..... at age from 22-28 So. Steve is WAY better than Cliff.
