Nice interview, ironically although both of us live in the UK I first met Andy in the US! (forth road trip of course), met hIm a couple of times since for what I believe will now be an annual meet up. And of course, that is all down to YouTube!
It's funny, we as subscribers can unsub with a click, so maybe it is presumptious to ask more of the vlogger? Does the vlogger wonder what happenned to subscriber MsMH-probably not.The parellels between tv and youtube can be made, but its the vloggers who are cancelling themselves. Those who in the early days had thousands of views and now just a hundred wonder why go on. Hellorodney is like fu, this is for me (video diary). I have alot respect for that. But as a viewer, I'd like closure.
@MsMotherhubbard Great ideas! I'll be putting these aside and - I think there's a number of places this can go - not only interviews, but in-depth discussions about the sorts of topics you bring to mind. Thanks for feedback and ideas - I'm excited to see where this can go!
Maybe you could explore the "responsibilities" of vloggers. As youtube gets older, contributers leave, is there a good way of doing it? We all know someday the shaytards will end, how does one do it? Is it like the sitcoms when they want to get out on top? Wean the viewers off?
Did you ever think to do a "Where Are They Now" of youtubers? I've only been into youtube for 2-3 yrs., but already have seen vloggers just disappear. It's weird that I start to worry about them. For instance, hellorodney (a long time vlogger) was posting everyday, then poof nothing for a week, is he o.k? We as viewers are left to wonder, he could have died for all we know. Renetto left without a goodbye. Question: do vloggers owe it to viewers to say goodbye?
Great conversation you've got going here. Glad to have played a small part in introducing the two of you. What Andy didn't talk about was his role in kicking off the "vloggerhood" movement and promoting the idea of community. He's far too modest.
I've been subbed to him for a long time.Really great person to watch he's one of the vloggers that could talk about two snails racing and still seem to make it interesting.
It seems, to me, that your interviews are getting better each time. You asked all the right questions and I really enjoyed listening to Andymooseman's responses. Before the 2010 Vidcon I figured You Tube would come crashing down when their video storage space ran out, but after hearing what they said about the future of You Tube, and their need for content creators, I think differently now. Great interview!
