More absurd questions from a grandstanding Senator. What do oil company CEO salaries have to with the price of oil in China or elsewhere? NOTHING! It's simple supply & demand, increase demand by China & India, etc. A 4% shortfall in daily oil supply results in a 170+% increase in oil price. It's the global economy, stupid! Senator, instead of asking absurd questions, ask questions that will help you understand the situation in order to help you govern.
As a Brit may I suggest that Americans have allowed your corporations to get too powerful and their executives too arrogant. When Tony Benn was Secretary of State for Energy he was visited by Henry Fords grandson "like a Roman Emperor visiting a parish councillor." He was there to give Her Majesty's government an ultimatum as to what it needed to do if Ford workers at Dagenham were to keep their jobs.
