  • I used to listen to lefty my dads records and I loved them then and now. great ole sounds.

  • Man I don't call myself old yet But grew up this this music as well as 50 and 60's Man I just love listening to this oldie but goodie country music

  • WHAT A COUNTRY SINGER--COMPARE THIS TO THIS WALL STREET NASHVILLE CRAP--ITS PRETEND COUNTRY--MONEY AND CORRUPTION IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY IN NASHVILLE--AS MERLE HAGGARD SAID-"ALL LYRICS AND MELODYS SOUND THE SAME--NO FEELINGS OR EMOTIONS ALLOWED---MERLE IS SO RIGHT..ITS JUST LIKE RAP CRAP--NASHVILLE HAS SUNK LOW----HOW LOW CAN THEY GO? WELL THEY HAVE REACHED THEIR MARK--THEY CAN KISS MT ASS. IM A COUNTRY CLASSIC PERSON TIL DEATH

  • @hagblay everything "new" sucks

  • Lefty wrote this song for his wife while serving time in prison at the age of 19.

  • @shtade3 why he go to prison for?

  • The reason for the excellent production of this video is because the Incomparable Marty Robbins was the executive producMr on the novie," Road to Nashville". Loved it!

  • George Strait brought me here.

  • I think that's Connie Smith in the background.....is it? I love Connie Smith.

My family and I saw Lefty Frizell at a Sunday performance of a lot of country stars near Thousand Oaks, CA.....can't remember the name of the show. Thank you. ~OneKewpie~

  • Agree ... beautifully shot clip that really shows Lefty's presence and charisma. Not my favorite "vocal" by him of this oft-recorded classic, but that doesn't matter; he holds the camera with ease like nobody today in country music - great video.

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! What a cool clip! The late great Lefty at his best!!! Must be a clip from a country music movie. Comedian Doodles Weaver is one of the two people looking on when Lefty first sat down to sing. Wonderful quality! THANKS for posting this delightful clip! CHEERS, mate! :-)

  • Thanks...for Posting :-)

  • I love the way he slows the tempo of the music down and sings it more like a beautiful slow ballad.

  • What a great, great country legend. When I was a kid, my dad took me to see Lefty. I was as impressed then as I still am now by his music. Nothing like that CRAP they have the gall to call "country" nowadays. I'm also a performer and do lots of classic country covers (including Lefty's songs). Most people have no idea what we're playing and we usually get snickered at by the 20 somethings and 30 somethings. We're unfazed by that and will never ever play any of the garbage on "country" radio now

  • @RobCoates1 - Yeah! Great comment! That music what you mean really sucks!

  • Yes that is a beautiful song alright.

No bells and whistles. Just lovely.

    Thanks friend.

    NAncy

  • @nllleonard - Hi NAncy I thought to look for another song I suppose not uploaded I have on CD but lol again I find a nice song I know of Lefties but not one I look for and think I wonder if my friend would be pleasantly surprised she certainly must know this one but I was wrong before so maybe I get lucky and share a sweet song with you – Thanks for your comment – Best Wishes

  • March 31, 1928: birth of Lefty Frizzell, American singer and songwriter (d. 1975).

  • Happy birthday, Lefty!

  • Hank, Patsy, Lefty, and ET the great ones ....real country!

  • very very awesome music my friend,I like this video

  • Lefty is "AWESOME", it is really hard to hear a quality voice anymore. So smooth and makes you feel good.

  • THIS IS COUNTRY MUSIC. THERES NOTHING THATS CALLED COUNTRY MUSIC OF TODAY. LISTEN TO LEFTY FRIZZELL.

  • @steinsteel Your so right, the junk they plat today id just that JUNK. Some of the so called country singers today can't even tune their own guitars

  • @46r11 everytime I read these comments it's about all the junk we get to hear on country music stations nowadays and yes it's so very true,I call it "infiltration country music",it has nothing to do with the real thing. And yet these so called country performers survive because apparantly the technicians in Nashville have found a way to package the whole thing in a way to reach a huge new audience and they are very succesful in doing this cause everybody now is making millions.

  • @46r11 you r right, they can't even tune their own guitars and yet become millionairs compared to the old real country stars, hmmm strange world I guess.I get sick n tired listening to so called country stations,it has nothing to do with country music so I just switched to bluegrass music stations where everything is still pure and not infiltrated "as yet",thanks for posting Lefty's music,Eric.

  • Is Lefty right-handed?

  • @JohnRinNoHo No. The nickname came because he had the unusual condition of favoring his right foot. It probably saved his life, as a child on the farm, when an epidemic of foot-and-mouth disease was rampant.

It cost him the position of first-string kicker on the football team, when it was found that the school had only a right-foot ball.

Later, he had trouble during his military career, as he (and his drill sergeant) would find him marching out of step with the rest of the company.

  • Lefty, overlooked by many, true to the roots of the music.

  • One of the greats of country music.Oh they dont make them like that anymore.

Like patsy'marty'jim and hank etc taking from this world far to early but maybe there having one great big jamboree up there.

  • "Please never forget what is Pure Country Music". You've got that right!! The stuff they play on the radio these days is pretty sad and not country at all!!!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Lefty had one of the great voices of country music. RIP Lefty.

  • Leftty was pure country wasn't he? Just doesn't get much better.

  • I'm still miss him.

  • I would argue that the Carter Family, Uncle Dave Macon or The Skillet Lickers were closer to being "pure country" but I still love these old recordings.

  • This IS country music, just the way the it was intended. Nothing close today

  • That suit is SO subtle :)

  • Lefty was a great talent who left us way too soon. His voice was one of a kind and probably never to be heard of again. Thank you for posting this video.

  • Nashville BETTER wake UP..............and start doing THIS again! SOON! Great Lefty........... Merle Haggards favorite singer!

  • Lefty. one of Country Musics real giants....cant listen to the radio anymore, without someone trying to sound like him....!

  • i live in southampton Enland, and ive been listening to lefty for 40 years, hes the best. Im 48 now

  • He ain't drunk. Mr. Acuff would not tolorate it!

  • Great comment. Yeah!

  • @Gadomski2006 Ha like ole Hank, Lefty had a drinking problem..although here I am sure he's not drunk

  • he's drunk

  • I wore out an old 78 rpm wax record in the 1950's playing this song! Those were the days when we had to replace the needles in the arm of the phonograph. This was a good song to dance to at the Saturday night dances played by a good old CW band. Those were the days my friends!

  • A great song!!

  • i love these old films. is he related to David Frizell?

  • @kvanderus

    david frizzell's brother

  • he was 'real' country. a true GIANT in every sense of the word. if you dont know the songs of this man, go back and study your history...Lefty started his brilliant career back in the 'HANK Williams' era. we will never see his like again.

  • This is what we heard as kids..small town in Oregon. I actually thought he was a friend of my brothers.lol The classic country is the best ever. I listen to Music Choice on cable..Margie

  • @kvanderus

uh, now he is davids father

  • @danglywang

    he is David's older brother.

  • beautiful stuff

  • Oh, and that is a young Connie Smith in the wings.

  • This is a clip from a movie. Can't remember which.

  • Road To Nashville (1967)

  • barbillafonic ,

Thanks for posting this. I won't ever forget what real country is.

  • lefty is the song you need when you need a push in the right way whether it is respecting your parents or showing you how to tell her she is the one thanks lefty

  • Great stuff right there. Thank you barbillafonic

  • Each time I see and listen to Lefty here it brings tears to my eyes. He had a troubled life but a fantastic career and somehow I feel this all shows in his personality while he's singing this song. He always said he lived each word in his songs and you can tell with just about all of his recordings there is a lot of emotion in them. What a fabulous artist he was. Thank you for posting. - Paula

  • Thanks to you for this nice comment.

  • Simple and Powerful.. We need more Lefty's

  • Lefty was great. He wrote this song to his wife while he was incarsarated in Roswell NM

  • Yeah I grew up with this music.

  • this IS REAL country music. besides maybe Toby Kieth and dixie chicks modern country is shit. they stole the steel and stole the banjo. its very sobering :(

  • bridb711 The Dixie Chicks? Really? WTF

  • Classic. Thanks.

  • I love this tune it brings back memories.

    I added it.God Bless...Eddie

  • I AM UNDER THE SPELL OF LEFTY FRIZZELL

  • It's Doodles Weaver

  • That's Connie Smith..Marty Stuart's wife..

  • Thats not Roy Acuff. There is two interesting guitars in this, that guy is holding a tenor guitar, and then Lefty is holding his awesome guitar.

  • That is Roy Acuff.

  • Never be another lefty....Just ask Haggard!

  • here in europe we sadly never got the opportunity to see lefty frizzell in his all too short lifetime

i love his music and its easy to see that a lot of artists were influenced by his unique sound notably the great merle haggard amongst many more

todays so called country music will never compare with the likes of hank williams ,ernest tubb, marty robbins loretta, tammy, etc, etc, i could go on but the list is almost without end

the american people should be proud of that particular period

  • zereedon, I'm almost besides myself that you, a man in another country, did respond in such a way. I'm touched that you were touched by this man. He's not necerally one of the "biggest", names "popularity wise" in our country, but to me, he's one of the greatest country singers of our century. To me, he has something "special" in his songs and voice and style, that just says all that. Marc Trainor.

  • yes your so right lefty was due to appear at one of the wembley festivals but was to ill to make it. what easter week ends they used to be

  • Is that Roy Acuff at :04?

  • It sure looks like him.

  • no it's some comedy actor ihave the dvd road to nashville the girl is connie smith.

  • it's Doodles Weaver a big actor who fell on hard times in Hollywood not Nashville!

  • Absolutely magical song. If you have the money and are able to find it, but his Life's Like Poetry box set, six disks, if I remember correctly, of just pure magic.

  • Actually it's over 12 disks, haha. About 500+ songs, I just checked on my Itunes.

  • pure.

  • Roy Orbison's musical inspiration.

    Wonderful song!

  • WOW!!!!Why cant todays country sound like this????

  • new equipment, new production.

People would have to use the old recording gear.

  • Nice. You've got to love real Country Music.

  • Lefty can break your heart with very little effort...one of the sweetest voices ever.

  • I'm related to this man, honestly. My dad, Robert Allison Frizzell Jr. (Not famous) is his distant cousin.

I dream of singing, too. Thanks for knowing Lefty. I did a report on him for my school project. :)By the way, are there any other Frizzells out there? My name's Ellen, and you might know me.

  • gw bush is in this video

  • Please excuse my vulgarity, but what the fuck are you talking about?

  • I think he was refering to :58 sec!!

  • To me , Lefty lives every time I sing one of his songs. Even though I was a young boy when I first heard his records, I'm imprinted for life...Thanks for posting this memorable song.

  • Great version of this song. Thanks for posting.

  • Lefty was a wonderful talent, this shows it so well. His voice was true and tender.

  • Lefly was one of the all time greats of country music

  • lefty was great

  • lefty sure brings back memorys of a young

    teenager great music

  • Yes,That is Connie. This song is from the movie

Road To Nashville.I have the movie on a DVD.A pretty song.

  • Don't forget about younger brother, Allen, he's great and sounds more like Lefty than David.

  • Has anyone mentioned that this must be Connie Smith in the video with the tall gentleman? It sure does look like her. This is my favorite song of Lefty's, altho I do like them all. I am glad his brother David Frizzell has been carrying on the family name and his voice is almost as good as Lefty's. Thanks for the great video.

  • If they made a Mount Rushmore of Country Lefty would have to be on it. It's obvious Merle Haggard was the Son of Lefty and Keith Whitley was the grandson.

  • I sure hear Randy Travis there as well.

  • Exactly!

  • Lefty was a wonderful singer. He was also a bit of a "character".In other words he liked drinking and fighting-preferably in the same evening.Maybe that's why plee456's grandad didn't sue?

  • That's for sure.

    Inkycap

  • Lefty is one of the country great singers. Sad he isnt still with us.

  • That is for sure. But, he is still with through his music and spirit. And, as long as we have this site to help keep his music alive he will continue to with us.

    Inkycap

  • What a nasty thing to say. Do you have proof that he stole it? If so why didn't we hear about it.

If your grandfather, did write it, "Lefty" did it justice, by recording it.

    Inkycap

  • Oh gee why didnt grandpa sue?

  • Me again,

Get your proof. And, stop using the profane language on this site.

We just enjoy, this site to be able to listen these old vintage music.

    Inkycap

  • Thank you Inky. I agree. Enjoyment is what it is meant for.

  • ahh! there will never be another "Lefty Frizzell" no wonder he was Merle Haggard's idle and Randy Travis', George Strait's, George Jones' and on and on and on!

  • Great! Makes me remenicing to my childhood, when my late dad turns the long play records.

  • Geweldig!!!!!! Nog VeeeeeL meer van deze oude songs uit de jaren 50.

  • Cadillacl This clip is from the movie Nashville Now on a DVD.Great song_great singer.

  • Cat's Meow, ..hell.. he's the Grand PooBah...

  • I love you! I'm AMAZED at how much Lefty delivers with so little instrumental support. He's the total cat's meow!

  • Great music from one of the pioneers. Goes to show you don't need a 15 piece band to provide the musical background. The girl in the vid. is definitely Connie Smith.

  • Lefty influenced a lot of people in country

music. He was a great pioneer. Lefty, Merle

and many more greats including Hank were

influenced by the singing brakeman, the great

    grandfather of country, Jimmy Rodgers.

  • Merle Haggard is a big fan of Lefty,Jimmy Rodgersand Bob Wills :)

  • It's classic country all right, what truly pleasing sound! In reflection... great music that became a piece of our lives! Too bad that time has marched on, leaving tunes like these to simply take their place in history! If you're looking down at us... thanks Lefty!

  • Gosh, hearing this makes the truth really hit home. Singers on country radio today just plain SUCK! Lefty blows them all away.

  • lefty frizzell is a love letter from the almighty

  • Thank you I will never forget!

  • This is true-blue country music from a time long gone.Lefty always brings back nice sweet memories....

  • That he does. Hope you continue to support this site.

    Inkycap

  • Wow, thanks for posting this.

  • Thats Stringbean..

  • who is the couple in this video??

  • I'm pretty sure the woman is Connie Smith, but I'm not sure on the guy.

  • I think they are part of the Stoneman family that included Donna Stoneman --who is the woman in the video. The guy is one of the Stoneman brothers---Pop and Hattie Stoneman had 23 children---about a dozen survived to adulthood.

  • Could you imagine if someone walked into nashville and sang a song like this.......... Its really sad what country music has come to, This is the real stuff here...thanks for posting this!!

  • For sure, they don't make like them anymore.

Today's country music can't even compare to the old vintage.

I hope you continue to support this site.

    Inkycap

  • Yeah Lefty was great. He has a brother that sings too. True country here.

  • My favorite Lefty song. I would always request this song from the band where ever we went dancing - back in the 1950's. Does this bring back the great memories. REAL country. Thanks for this.

  • Oh God, I almost forgot what "Real Country" sounded like. Thanks Lefty. I wonder what he would think about this crap they pass off nowadays as country? I saw George Jones in concert recently. He said, "I wouldn't make it in country music if I were just starting out today." What a shame.

  • Wow! Thanks for this comment!

  • This is my all time favorite Lefty Frizzell song. This is country, folks, don't be fooled by turning on your radio's to those "real country music" stations.

  • outsanding!

  • The artists that owes the most to Lefty, in my opinion, is Randy Travis. He's good, but you can sure here that "Lefty twang" in his voice.

  • These young punks od Country TRY to sound like The mighty Lefty, "dream on guys" its all about "heart" only Merle came close to even sounding that way..George Jones said" every show i try to get as close to sounding like Lefty as possible, thwn i KNOW I,VE GOT IT RIGHT"

  • Lefty, what else can be said. Pure Hard-Core Country. Doesn't get much better then this folks. What show was this on?

  • Amazing vocals. This is such a treat to listen to.

  • The new so called country singers riding on the coat tails of the great Lefty and others. They should be ashamed to even be called country. All the new country singers suck.

  • his cover of jimmie roggers are my favorites

  • i love you lefty. o wish i could of met you!!!!hope your up there with the rest of the family.

    your cousin,

    Mattie:)

  • Wish I could had met my great uncle too!

  • wow this is fantastic. what a friggen voice.beautiful.

  • Great!!

  • Wonderful!!!!! Wasn't that my sweetheart standing there...Connie Smith?

  • Agreed with the comments. Please don't forget. Love this song, good times.
