@pedimatt60 ... The "soul" (the false you) is really nothing more than the Ego's futile attempt to immortalize itself. We want permanence, not only in this life but also in the next.
None of these "enlightened" people are enlightened. They are engaged in wishful thinking and fantasy-making trying hold onto an illusion of security in an unknown and unpredictable universe where no one is in control.
@tomsawyersucks ... He had a recent stroke. He didn't always talk so slow or have such difficulty grasping at words. Watch your blood pressure. High blood pressure is one of the main causes of stroke.
As I understand it, the soul merges into the oneness that it was never separated from, but also this God-consciousness still retains its memories of the individual..
everything is a working of christ, christ has no figure do not manifest but what i have just said, be part of everything for witch you are, and everything you see, enjoyce i love you.....thankyou
I often think that English speakers really have no business talking about the 'ego'. I don't "have" an ego, I am an ego, or a yo, an io, a je, an ich, an "I". Now, I think "ego" in modern usage comes to imply a "false" ego. There is writing in psychological literature about the true self and the false self/persona constructed for defense. Now, what RD means perhaps with his three layers is just layers of falseness, and within is the authentic self..whether eternal or not
I don't know if he is speaking the truth or otherwise. I feel odd listening to him, and question whether this is coming from the heart or just some knowledge.
BHAG.As It Is UNREVISED chapt 2 text 20 KRSNA says "For the soul there is never birth or death. Nor,having once been, does He Ever CEASE to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain".
To those who said I said something negative about using LSD, please re-read my statement/question. I have nothing against LSD. If you have enough intellect to understand what I said, I would enjoy your response.
well, forgive someone for enjoying something little in the life that we are given. There are things to enjoy on this planet, insulting people really shows how evolved your sense of the world is. Thanks for the memories!
@cspan0004 when I wrote that, the video wasn't featured... but good to know it's moving up in the world. I guess "blow job" girl has some kind of connection with the universe... hmmm... ;)
If you do not believe ..then why do you watch. why put negative post up that express your ego or are you afraid to open your mind. I have searched my innerself on my own without help or knowledge of others until i was about 23 years old. (That was my choice because of contamination and now am searching for connection to what i know) and i understand what is being spoken. I did not know of Ram Dass until today and its comforting to know that my thoughts are much of the same. Time to wake up !
Im not being hostile or trying to offend, but do you believe that this man's "perception" may have been tainted by LSD to the point that he has lost sight the boundary between what is logical and concrete, and what is psychoactive fantasy? Do you at least believe in the POSSIBILITY of that being true?
@bevandsuits I understand that. My grandfather has suffered three strokes and still retains logical thought and memory. My question revolves around the reality of what he's saying. Are his perceptions of the universe and God inspired by psychoactive hallucination or did he logically deduct his ideas and test them? I know I have had similar concepts under the influence of marijuana and cant help but think that my psychoactive fantasy however detailed and logical in MY mind... is just that. :(
@archados Conclusions and interpretations of what he says can be founded on many things, such as reference to the psychotropics you mentioned. I would refer you to the picture behind him. It is a photograph of a "man" referred to as "Neem Karoli Baba", from whom Richard Alpert received the name "Ram Das". Some good references about Him can be found in the writings of "Krishna Das". Before making a determined conclusion on Ram Das, look into his Guru, please.
Your imagination is your creation, your explanation of your creation is your deception, your strong hold into your deception is your confirmation to your imagination. You start at your imagination and end at your imagination. You are never here in the real, your present. ASH
voznow7, Pretty much. There is the waking state, the dream state, the dreamless sleep state and the transcendental state. Karma and reincarnation only occur in the first three states because we are identified with them. Once we recognize and identify with transcendental consciousness, the cycle of karma ends even in this body. Does that help?
"Soul" is referring to the waking state which we typically think of myself, me, I, and the dreaming and dreamless sleep states which are part and parcel of myself. These are all temporary and are made of karma. The true Self witnesses these states and is unborn and never dies.
just think of like this. god is a big octopus or small doesn't matter. your sense of life and reality is just a tenacle of god's octopus. the third inner circle is god you'll never know that until perhaps death. but as your life is no life at all, you are a delusion of your own consciousness. you don't exist. you are just a pseudopod of god and due to his enormous being, you feel like you exist. this is basically an easy way to make you subservient to Ram Dass.
I am happy to report that my experience, having been brought up in the Christian traditions, was impacted mightily in the early 70's by Ram Dass. Prior to knowing about him, I had had that "deeper experience" and was terribly disillusioned with the "western materialistic view". I read his book "Be Here Now" that helped clarify so much of what was happening in my life and the world. I had the experience of hearing him lecture in Los Angeles in 1973. He helped me beyond words!
He's sating the same thing but in a different way.
His "God" is not the Judao-Christian-Islamic God.
Think Carl Jung's collective consciousness, we are of it not in it.
The individuals cognitive matrix of understanding IS THEIR reality. For many at best it's a poor approximation of the truth, for some it is true delusion.
I'm just learning about this man. From what I can see, he is no different than anyone else who has been "taught" these things and led to believe them deeply enough to share them with others while giving credit to some dead person who had a good idea once which is no longer applicable to our times....(e.g. Jesus). I don't believe in people who follow people only people who follow the inner voice and tell others to do the same. Plus, he IS talking about all this speculatively as an opinion.
Theres a difference between indoctrinated people and those who belive in something as a result of a deeper experiece they had.
When he was taking LSD in the sixties he saw things he couldnt understand with the western materialistic view (as many others did). So he Searched for answeres, which he found in india and the hindu religion. Let me tell you something, it IS a matter of his EXPERIENCE, not him just repeating words his guru taught him. This is just a way to put his experience into words.
It's a shame this man's deep perception of the human condition has turned to fundamentalist conceptions of a 'soul' or eternal life, of which we have less than no proof.
Psychologically here we see the id described as a soul.
Brilliant man though, i think they even based a character of LOST on him.
APHASIA it is called; it can occur after or can be caused by a stroke. Inside your thoughts you know exactely what you want to say but the words don't come flowing out no more. Very tough to learn to live with for some people. But in the end, all we are is Pure Silence, pure awareness. Stop judging, just dive into matter a little deeper, don't stay on the shallow side of the water guys...be fearless, bless. Ram; you ARE that,x
Stroke or no stroke the ability to communicate awareness is as strong as ever and I feel very fortunate to have been lent Be Here Now over 30 years ago.
I haven't finished watching "Ram Dass: Fierce Grace", so I cannot tell if this interview is from that documentary, but it's inspiring to see him bring such intelligence to bear in translating the post-stroke mind's ideations into words. Acts of translation are endlessly fascinating, and his words are so profound - such an interesting vid for both reasons.
He is just burned out.. Maybe he should of tried to figure his therories out with out doing the LSD. Poor guy prob crapped his pants twice during the interview.
Hope is a shallow emotion! There is an awareness beyond hope, fear, love and all other ego projections. Then there is a Divine Conscoiusness and the awareness of it within us is the only real goal. Only it will suffice. Only it is required.
He said "Soul is not eternal". Now thats unbelievable considering the philosophy that inspired him. Soul is eternal. It does not die with the body. It goes through Karmic cycle of Birth and Death through many bodies until it achieves Salvation.
The Birth and Death is of the body not the soul. Soul just sheds one body and takes up another just as a person changes clothes. That is our Indian philosophy. Now where did I say Sould is "not" eternal?
Ah ok, I get what he means now about shared awareness. But that is different, and cannot be correlated in describing another human as 5000 miles away - as he did in another video - because there are rules to our creation up here above God's realm (the inner core), and those rules say that if we are separated by space and time then we are separated by space and time, there's no cheating. Not yet anyway.
Ram Dass' stroke was major - he wasn't expected to survive that night. He has right side paralysis and speech aphasia caused by brain damage. His recovery to this level is remarkable.
your a close minded fool.. who obviously did not take in one word from this.. all you can do after watching it is criticize... it just goes to show how idiotic you are and its evident you don't even have the slight understanding as to what an acid trip is like..
This is wonderful. However I struggle to keep sadness and discouragement at bay when I consider that it took this man an entire lifetime of
hard work, constant searching and tireless soul-searching to arrive at the revelation he is trying to share with us using mere words. Such a long road we all have ahead of us.
Observa bien.
It brings a tear to my eye.. you can tell he's finding it hard to convey his message using language, but in his eyes you can see he knows exactly what he wants too say. I just wanted to reach out and hug the man for sharing his perceptions with the world. He is providing a great service to us all.
That is a perfect example of how we judge people and yet is not a truth, but a label we make up to suit how we view the world. We could choose to view him as a human being and accept that he is a part of God. That is to love and accept someone as they are. Then you can accept yourself and vice versa. We all make a difference in the world in our own way. Thank you thehobbster for opening the eyes of some who like to make neat little labels for people. That is so limiting.
The soul ( the real you) lives within the perception of the ego ( the virtual you) but all is just the mind of God ( consciousness) ..am i right?

So what i understand from this:
Our body is organic and will return to earth.
Our soul has a time limit.
But a portion of all of our souls are connected through god and heaven.
When we die the soul that was contained in our body during life will then fade into the collective power and be used to reincarnate future life?
Is this how the hindu belief system works?

your a close minded fool.. who obviously did not take in one word from this.. all you can do after watching it is criticize... it just goes to show how idiotic you are and its evident you don't even have the slight understanding as to what an acid trip is like..

OK OK ... I was a little strung-out myself when I wrote that (yes, I see the irony)--I had no idea the guy had a stroke. Sorry.

I hope I can talk that wisely at any age.

You might think this is a very Eastern description, but read the Enneads by Plotinus. Happy to be a front end for a Neoplatonic Gnostic Supermind!!!

Quiero aclarar:

That is a perfect example of how we judge people and yet is not a truth, but a label we make up to suit how we view the world. We could choose to view him as a human being and accept that he is a part of God. That is to love and accept someone as they are. Then you can accept yourself and vice versa. We all make a difference in the world in our own way. Thank you thehobbster for opening the eyes of some who like to make neat little labels for people. That is so limiting.
