  • @ myMablethorpe. its a shame the town has as many elderly who dont care about the towns future.

Tesco wanted to pump millions in the highstreet, denied. shops aint sellling much, fair.. its tat.

i sound negative you would think but be fair, the town aint dead yet and it can be saved. next to the bike activities could there be a high speed sand race for 4x4 vehicles?

it brings sensation and hopefully more money to the town.

  • mr. eyre! lol

  • haha i work at co-op my life is over lol

  • One user blocked & post deleted for profanities. If we can't have sensible discussions here, such as posted by jamaingreat & Surlyduff50 (even though we may disagree on some points) I will close public comments for this video.

  • Nope, I agree with Surly, at least pretty much. In the majority of respects he is correct, a bit harsh, but fair.

  • Good to see that this topic is attracting interest! Not quite sure how you can be both harsh and fair at the same time though. The big problem is that Mablethorpe has created itself a reputation - not a good one - and we can spend all day apportioning blame for that. My point is that we need to move forward from there and start to look for the positive, however small that may be at the moment, and build on it. Otherwise the young people will be forever condemned to a bleak future.......

  • @MyMablethorpe

Hehe no, we are happy enough to move away, the less Lincolnshire the better! :)

  • One day you might come to appreciate the finer points of Lincolnshire .... I've lived in many places across the UK and there are far worse than here ... I'll live in hope! Meanwhile, I hope you contribute positively to your present community ....

  • ...That means putting some of the past behind ... but not that far so as we forget the mistakes that got us where we are and repeat them. Continual 'knocking' of Mablethorpe will not help. I encourage everyone to register at My Mablethorpe website and contribute constructively to building a fair and achievable future for everyone involved with the town.

  • The town has got to be one of the tackiest, decrepit places in the country, packed to the brim with self-deluding crackpot leaders who are convinced that Mablethorpe > Disneyland, and that think that building a giant light bulb will bring in endless visitors.

I feel sorry for those stuck in Mablethorpe that are wanting, but unable, to leave. People that want a better future - and real job prospects.

  • No one questions that Mablethorpe is not without its problems, but they won't be solved by knocking it further. I assume you do not live here (if you ever did?). There are many in the town who are working very hard to effect long-term and sustainable improvements in employment and and quality of life, other than the 'leaders' you mention. Towns can and do change - I lived in a Lincolnshire town once described as 'the most boring in Britain' & it's far from that now. It's all about attitude ..

  • @siteease

"I assume you do not live here (if you ever did?)"

Lived there for 6 years, lived in Alford for a further 6

  • Good wishes to all at Mablethorpe.

I hope you can develop a cyber industry or something like that. Australia loves Mablethorpe and the people there. So perhaps sell more meat pies with a cold beer and more people will come there. :) Good luck, chin up. Cheers. Ben from Telford, Victoria, Australia.

  • Hey thanks, Ben! You've cheered us all up no end. Really appreciate that.

  • @mootfw2001

A cyber industry? Haha, Mablethorpe is still marvelling at electricity. Alas, virtually everything that has been said about the place on this report is perfectly true. The fact is that there are NO opportunities for young people in the town and, let's face it, it is gonna remain that way for a LONG time.

  • @Surlyduff50 I smell a self-fulfilling prophesy there. It's attitudes that need to change in Mablethorpe before progress can be made. What was that phrase about kicking dogs when they are down?

  • @MyMablethorpe

Mablethorpe is a town stuck in a time machine. There is, quite frankly, next to nothing attractive about the place to tourists. Granted, newcomers will still visit the place, and some will do so more than once, but this is probably due to cost-effectiveness, or sentimentality.

  • There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of owners of caravans who come to Mablethorpe every weekend and for longer holidays and they love it. It's no good trying to pretend you're something you're not, by trying to go vastly 'upmarket' and alienating the 'traditionalists'. Mablethorpe is looking to be inclusive and seek new 'markets' without ignoring the existing ones. That also means looking wider than just tourism. Great Motorcycle Festival this weekend by the way - were you there?

  • @MyMablethorpe

"No good trying to go vastly 'upmarket' and alienating the 'traditionalists'."

And that is precisely why Mablethorpe is going nowhere. Like I said, I do not deny that there are many caravanners visiting Mablethorpe on a regular basis, but what are they doing for the town? Are they encouraging change? Remember, they are not the ones having to live there. And yes, I agree with you on the idea of having to look wider than tourism.

  • As I said - 'inclusive' - caravanners, residents, day trippers, businesses ... all have different expectations and it is about getting the right balance to meet needs & aspirations. As for what caravanners 'do' for the town .. they contribute directly or indirectly to the local economy and cannot be ignored. The kind of comments that you make do little to encourage cohesion and community spirit.

  • @MyMablethorpe

As for the motorcycle "festival", no I wasn't there, as I moved away from the area several months ago. I have to say, it looks less like a festival and more like a small group of people gathered around a few bikes.

  • So don't make comments based in ignorance - read what those who actually went have to say on the Motorcycle Festival Facebook Page - just Google it.
