You would NEVER clap when a high note is sung when seeing a Broadway show, or during an opera. This isn't a pop song America, he's singing one of the most famous tenor arias and you're treating it like a rock concert.
what is with all the cheering and clapping while he is singing. i have never seen such disrespect.. how embarassing america. have some class and wait until the performance is over...
If you dislike this video 1st you have no taste 2nd you are probably related to the people who lost to him 3rd you dont know what talent is even if it hit you in your face and 4th why did you watch it if you didnt like it?
@Alot of poor people are fat. They eat a lot of potatoes and beans, macaroni, etc. Can get that fairly cheaply. I remember he said they WERE poor when he was growing up. I don't remember him saying they were poor at the time. Again, I have known quite a few fat, poor people
@Peggycass Fair enough man. I was sort of just taking the piss not trying to cause any harm! But yea I know what you mean. A lot of poor people where I live are pretty big too!
idk hy sum people laugh and make fun of this amazing and wonderful guy i bet nun of u would have da guts to do that and admit he was poor he amazing!!!
I love opera, and I love heartfelt, emotional guys like this, but... can we PLEASE do something besides "Nessun Dorma?" That poor aria is losing its magic for me.
@twiwonder It's lost it's magic for me a long time ago since it became the standard opera wanna-be performed piece. I know that the audience is screaming and everything, and the judges are so impressed, so I'll have to say couple of things which seem overlooked among all of the excited noise the audience makes: In real opera, singers who are about 100 times better than this guy, don't even attempt this aria, and in case the judges didn't hear it through all the voice manufacture, HE IS FLAT!!!!!
@barmanjoe I completely agree with you, esp. the comment about real opera singers. The truth is, I grew up listening to Pavarotti and the other tenors, and it just really irks me to constantly hear people comparing amateurs to such geniuses. Yes, this man is talented, and yes, he can go far, but for GOD'S sake, stop saying Paul Potts is "the next Pavarotti!"
@twiwonder And what's interesting is that some people will look at my comment and will call me arrogant and an idiot for putting him down like that, but in reality, I'm actually not putting him down, he did it to himself if he wanted to go by the standards of opera buffs such as myself (I sing opera as well). So I am merely talking about the truth and the facts and if that hurts anyone then they are simply not ready for the truth hehe
@twiwonder I think it's because Nessun Dorma has such a great climax at the end. I agree, though. There are plenty of good first impressions besides that song. I've never seen anyone sing Nella Fantasia or O Sole Mio yet.
For Hasselhoff to stand up with his arms wide open is a little ridiculous...He's got some talent but isn't an opera singer. What would their reaction be to a Pavarotti? Explode?
I can hear the best singers in the world and be blown away. But opera singers are the only people who can make me tear up at the sound of their voice. It's the most beautiful form of music in my opinion.
i seen there were 21 thumbs down. you people might want to fix the audio on your computer cause it obviously doesnt work. or maybe your heads are to far up your own asses to hear. this guy is simply awesome
@turksuckballsgyot "Singing opera" means singing in a full opera. An opera is a work of drama or comedy set to music, like a musical that is mostly sung-through but performed without any body or standing microphones. Opera singers are able to project the sound so that it's heard without amplification. Opera singers do it for 2-4 hours operas, while acting, at very high standard of perfection in tone, pitch, phrasing, diction and with highest artistry and expressiveness. They also move and act.
To Dimoaar: Luciano Pavarotti. Pavarotti publicly admired Bocelli's voice and played an early part in the younger man's career.[121][122] He reportedly stated that "There is no one finer," upon hearing his voice for the very first time.[123] Bocelli would later sing during both his wedding ceremony, in 2003, and his funeral, in 2007.119] Bocelli is widely regarded as one of the best singers in the world, and his voice is admired and revered all across the globe.
@giammonadj Pavarotti admired many singers, including pop singers like Aretha. Being admired by Pavarotti is NOT the definition of an opera singer. There is only one definition of an opera singer: opera singer is someone who sings in LIVE OPERAS. Bocelli has maybe sung in 5 or 6 operas in his life in smaller theaters, and to not-so-good reviews. He is very highly regarded as classical crossover/popular singer, but not opera singer. Did you see him performing leading roles at La Scala? Met?
Greetings from Russia! Dear Neal,... I was deeply charmed with your singing, and was fallowing to the power of your vice. You should keep to study singing, you are so talented! Iwill pray for you to find your way to the opera singing, and hope to see you on the stage.
@timmytoker123 dude calling him a 'faggot' make u just as bad as him but i know what u meant even tho i cant find HIS comment but 4 real u cant be a bigot and call someone racist its like an oxymoron haha
@Metalface123 honestly, most larger ppl need larger lungs so they can get enough blood pumping for their larger organs, thus giving them more air to use and sing louder, higher, (and i think) better than most other people
I have heard people say that Americans don't understand opera, and I suppose that it is true that Americans as a whole do not really like to listen to opera, but by God they chose an opera singer for the first winner of Ameriaca's Got Talent. Does that say something about Americans or what.

I hope he has gotten training since the end of the show, hard to judge whether his instrument is big enough to sing professional opera, but he definitley has a spectacular untrained instrument.
He sings opera, which he does spectacularly enough to entertain a common listener. Nowhere do I hear anyone claim in the clip that he could become an actual opera star. But one thing is right, he could entertain a large audience. And that's enough. He could perhaps fill a niche like "pop opera".
The judges got carried away too much by the story and the audience reaction though.
