  • As a Native American I understand cultural appropriation all too well, and open racism that is ingrained into our society in small, everyday ways. This video is DAMN good. Kudos.

  • For one, Die Antwoord is not European, they ARE South African. They embrace the many ethnicities that make up SA. I understand your dislike of cultural appropriation, and I feel the same about it in many instances. Yet, saying that rap is an African American only music would mean also that since metal music (or classical even), for example, was forged by white men that people of color cannot appropriate that genre. That only limits everyone.

  • @TehKANNIBAL First of all, a lot of the history and culture of African peoples has been erased as a result of the genocide that occurred over hundreds of years . Also, the empires you speak of , particularly the Greek actually researched it. If you are so sure Africa and its myriad cultures have contributed so little, why don't you look into it to prove it to yourself?

  • @devinkk It's crazy how western Europeans try to claim Rome and Greece when both Rome and Greece were more related to Africans, Southern Europeans, and Eastern Europeans than Northern or Western Europeans. You are correct. In actuality Greek culture stems from Ancient Egypt and Ancient Ethiopia. Those were BLACK AFRICAN nations. So Blacks did originate this shit and we continually re-invent it as well. Especially African Americans. So the guy you are talking to has no legs to stand on.

  • i dont understand black people any more

  • @TehKANNIBAL no one gives a fuck about wat some dickhead did at ur school play, no one steals european literature, go bitch to the producers

  • @TehKANNIBAL sorry, the last sentence got futzed. It should read. Also, the empires you speak of, particularly the Greek and Roman empires are hardly as homogeneous and "white" if you researched it. There's a lot there.

  • Lol.. people actually living in Africa 'die antwoord' are appropriating African culture?

  • Did you invent the culture? Claiming as your own just because you are black?

Die Antwoord represents Cape culture, they just happen to rap.

  • @TehKANNIBAL

What is white culture? You have none. You have the nerve to be proud of folk...LOL. Blacks leave a legacy everywhere we go inspite of you guys trying to destroy us. You people on the other hand leave every native people you come in contact with in worse shape than you found them. You have invented and created NOTHING without help. Your "morals" are a joke and so is your future. Europe is falling and so is the white man. Create something to stop that. Have a nice day.

  • seriously shut the fuck up.

sounds like your racist against white folks

  • Nothing but the truth in this video, and black people need to pay attention to their creations. I swear keep pushing this...

  • No one accuses Black people of cultural appropriation if they perform classical music. Double standards, much?

  • They ARE from Cape Town and it's a semi-spoof on Gangsta culture. I know, I'm from Cape Town, LIVED here all my life, poes!

You cannot understand OUR perceptions of Die Aantwoord, you aren't privy to the insider's joke and you just don't get it. I am black and I don't feel they have stolen anything, in fact it is the "coulored culture combined with the Afrikaans that's the source of the lyrics.

I think you're thoughts are not based on reality, time for a rethink!

  • and BTW what does DIE ANTWOORD have to do with all this? have you taken time to listen to there music? there from south afrika...not only blacks live there..theres plenty white people in afrika..i agree with you about whites in the US stealing EVERYBODYS culture and claiming it there but the whites in afrika aint on da same level..

  • @PusherPriceTV

    4. Whites in Africa claim SOUTH AFRIKA ,CALL THEMSELVES AFRIKAN...are u sure it's only in the USA?

WHAT AFRIKAN TRIBE ARE THESE WHITE POEPLE FROM....Um, I THOUGHT SO..STFU!

  • @Sahbisun

DIE ANTWOORD are from south afrika!!

    Do your research!

  • @PusherPriceTV

Did you not read the description box? They live in Africa...but it is clear they are not African...what tribe do they come from. Please answer that!

  • Black People wear "HOUSE SHOES" right? guess where they came from?mexico!! and now black people in cpt wear them all day.you dont see us complaining.we could go on and on on both sides..Rhytm and blues music wasnt only created for black people.MUSIC IS UNIVERSAL STOP FRONTING!

  • @PusherPriceTV

This video isn't about inventions...it's about culture jacking. DO U SEE the world playing Selena on the reg- how about country western- How about some shit from Russia- Asia. BLACK PEOPLE have the entire world TRYING to do what they do. WE ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE....that lead others with this/our style...unique isn't it????

  • just 2 INFORM U! that movie "mi vida loca" plays some FUNK & SOUL music not r&b! and half of the people who played in the bands WHERE chicanos puerto ricans salvadorenios AND BLACKS!! Stop acting like blacks own all this shit!! you just one of those jelous racist people out there..

  • WHO INVENTED FUNK & SOUL PUSHER???!!!!!!!

    Hmmmmmm?

  • I made a video about this . And this video is truth.

  • I just happen to stumble upon your video, looking for the group that you have playing through your video, die antwoord. I am 3rd generation Mexican, I grew up in California and so I was in the mix of blacks, whites, Mexican. I don't know anything about my Mexican culture, I grew up listing to rap, hip hop, r&b, oldies, rock, etc... (pretty much everything) I lean more towards the hip hop side and I know more about black culture more than my own. I think its more of a generation thing.

  • @epickorn

    That's cool..epick.

Because there was no Afrocentric radio stations when I was growing up*rare* I grew up on rock and of course old school motown.

It's not about how much we love others culture or how well we can relate to it..it's about people wanting to take original ideas and make it their own...

    Peace.

  • You should DEFINITELY know more about your culture and it won't be difficult at all.. you live in S. Cali/ Northern Mexico.. and please tell me I don't speak more Spanish than you.. please tell me se hablas Espanol.. I think its tragic to know more about someone else's culture than your own. Your culture is very rich.

  • Some call it being more "culturally flexible".. I say as long as you respect it.. But most times THEY DON'T and they make fun of it and degrade it when it's in OUR hands, but then use it for their own profit.. YOU ARE RIGHT.

  • @BLAKKBARBIEDOLL

    Exactly!

  • As well, I was watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon the other week and there was some actor playing a preacher doing the sing-songy thing.. and it just felt SOOOOOoooooo disrespectful.

As far as Mexicans.. at least the AMERICAN ones I know, LOVE oldies & the girls DO have attitude. lol. The biggest market for Oldies, including Keith Sweat- (ROTFL) WERE MEXICANS.

Often, it seems that whites don't have any culture of their own ( to me) they are ALWAYS jacking the culture of others.

  • I DON'T like it.. in the music industry, Jewish have historically taken what BLACK folks have created, robbed them of royalties & rights, re-packaged it and gave it to a white boy and mass marketed it and watered it down and made horrors of it.. just think Eminem brings violence in rap to a new low level -wanting to kill his mom. & once they commercialized hip hop it became the nightmare we see today. I don't see much RESPECT for our culture either.

  • ---"Black Culture" has been absorbed. It isn't separate anymore.

  • @IbnSheba

Oh yes it's been very much absorbed..so much so that others are saying " There is not such thing as African American Culture."

  • Black culture can easily be commercialized because black people can easily be bought.

  • @blacktigerwu

I dont think black people realize it yet..they dont have a culture anymore. Everyone else jacked it, because they were too busy trying to get rid of it. PLAYED!

  • Anything black people do is ridiculed. It's only good when somebody else does it. Sometimes it's not what's being done, but who is doing it. When you hate someone, they can't do anything right.

    And what is white culture?............

    I hear crickets churping.

  • Comment removed

  • @ShamelessNation

Wait here's a thought...I believe African American culture is now Eurocentric culture. Because it seems like we are doing everything Europeans do...more and more each day.

  • @Sahbisun

I agree 100%. We have definitely become white clones.

  • ---Culture is always changing. African American culture is a blending of several African cultures blended again with USA culture (whatever USA culture is). But there is a huge difference between simple borrowing between individuals and comercialization.

  • 2 words Sabi

    "Culture Vultures"

  • @Bloodsport1

So what do you call the people that allow 'others' to feed off them?

  • problem is Sabi, some or atleast today blacks dont give a fuck about tradition their only concern is making money, getting this paper. They dont think as selling their culture but more as a business. But this always been our problem even back in the day.
